<intro>
With Thomas Jones gone and rumors swirling around Leon Washington the Jets will be hosting Ladanian Tomlinson on Friday presumably to fill the void left by Jones. Tomlinson would be a nice change of pace from the hard downhill running Shonn Greene. Minnesota is also considering acquiring L T's services and at this point seem to be the front runners. The deal breaker may Adrian Peterson, The Vikings feature back. With Peterson as one of the leagues most prolific offensive weapons one would have to believe Tomlinsons carries would be few and far between. In New York however, Tomlinson would surely see more of the football. Shonn Greene and Mark Sanchez are both coming into just their second season and the Jets are coming off a season where they owe most if not all of their offensive success to the ground game. The exit of Jones left a void of a big name big number back as well as a veteran presence in the backfield. Tomlinson is coming off his worst year by far but by no means has an empty tank and its not foolish to think that with one of the most physical offensive lines in football LT could thrive once again. One thing is certain If LT is dawning the green and white next season there will be a lot of happy people in that new stadium.
</intro>

    <intro>
Bringing in Kyle Vanden Bosch was a great move for the Lions. He’s a veteran, a Pro Bowler, and we have a lot of young guys. It’s especially good for me, I’ll definitely be picking his brain and getting all kinds of good advice. I’ll be better just for having him on the team and I know he will contribute big-time. I’ve been a fan of his since college.

I don’t expect to get less playing time because he’s here. I’m going to compete as hard as I can to be on the field every snap. Defensive linemen rotate a lot. Kyle mostly played on the right side in Tennessee, but I saw him play inside, too, different positions, he’s very versatile and that will help us as well because we’ll be able to switch it up and do different things up front. I think it will all work out and I will get even more playing time than I had last year. At least I’m going to fight for it.

Kyle also has that motor that’s always running, and that will make the whole team better. We don’t need him to get 12-15 sacks. He’s the defensive lineman that you see running downfield 50 yards to make a tackle. That motor is something I want to incorporate into my game, I hope to pick that up from him.

The Lions also released Dewayne White. He was a guy I was tight with, one of the veterans who took me under his wing when I was a rookie. I kind of looked up to him, he was a guy who was in the league 7-8 years. Most guys only last in this league 3-4 years. He definitely taught me some things. It’s an unfortunate part of the game, but all the veterans that were here when I was a rookie are gone. Jared DeVries was a guy I definitely looked up to, a guy I could talk to about anything who would never push you in the wrong direction. But that’s the nature of the game we play. The business aspect of the game definitely sucks.

I’ve been taking boxing classes to stay in shape and I like it a lot. I feel like I’m getting in shape but I’ll find out for sure when I get back to Detroit. Boxing is extremely hard, you work muscles that as a football player you didn’t know you had. I’m learning the basics, the stance, 1-2 combos, and I’m getting my hands quicker. That and the hand-eye coordination are the main reasons I started in boxing in the first place.

Cliff Avril is a defensive end for the Detroit Lions. <intro>
Why bother signing a healthy NFL player who is sure to improve your team when you can sign a player who has had two ACL surgeries in the last two years? That seems to be the thinking of the Philadelphia Eagles with their signing of free agent cornerback Marlin Jackson.

To make this is even better, the geniuses that run the Eagles have decided that Jackson will not only be trying to come back from a major knee injury, but he will also be playing a new position. Jackson spent his first five years in the NFL playing cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts, but he will be asked to play free safety for the Eagles.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman confirmed that the Eagles sign Jackson to a two-year contract and that he will compete with Macho Harris and Quintin Demps for the starting free safety job in 2010.

"We are going to start him out at free safety," Roseman said. "He has the versatility to play nickel and line up in the slot. He has some size (6-0, 196 pounds). He's a good football player so we're going to get him healthy, get him right and then go from there."

Holy crap. There are so many things wrong with this that I don't know where to begin. Let's start with the obvious. The Eagles are a bunch of cheap idiots. I guess they didn't learn anything about signing players coming off of ACL surgery with offensive lineman Stacy Andrews and TE Cornelius Ingram. Andrews hardly played in his first year with the Eagles in 2009, and was forced to take a pay cut this offseason, and Ingram was drafted by the Eagles in the 2009 draft after a knee injury in college. Did I mention that Ingram injured the same exact knee in training camp last year? Yeah, what could possibly go wrong with this Jackson signing?

Jackson missed 11 games in 2008 with a torn ACL in his right knee. Then he missed all but the first four games last season when he tore the ACL in his left knee. He literally doesn't have a leg to stand on. The Colts had so little faith in his ability to recover from these injuries that they did not even bother to tender Jackson, thereby making him an unrestricted free agent.

Now let's consider the fact that the Eagles are going to ask him to change positions. Jackson was a very good cornerback during the rare occasions that he was healthy during his five-year NFL career, but he has rarely played safety in the NFL.

The only time Jackson played safety, besides a few games in his second season with the Colts, was during one season at Michigan. The Wolverines were thin at safety going into his junior year so then-head coach Lloyd Carr asked Jackson to switch positions. Jackson did it, but struggled mightily.

Maybe they're just trying to make Jason Avant happy after they signed him to a new contract, by signing his old college teammate. They tried that once before when they signed Jason Peters to baby-sit his old college roommate Shawn Andrews last year. Oh wait, that didn't work out so well did it? Oh well, I'm sure it will work out better this time.

I'm not necessarily saying that Jackson can't make the switch to safety, but why couldn't the Eagles sign somebody who actually plays safety in the NFL? Is that really too much to ask of a team that is making me pay for half of my season tickets by the end of this week?

This reminds me of other instances where Andy Reid figured any player could play a new position in his perfect offensive machine. Anybody remember DT Dan Klecko being converted into a fullback, then back to DT, then back to fullback again? How about the season where Reid cut Jeremy Bloom at the end of training camp, which left him without a single player on the roster who had ever fielded a punt in the NFL? The Packers certainly remember that game as the gift win the Eagles gave them due to numerous fumbled punts.

Roseman called the signing a "risk-reward" move. No Howie, this is a "the Eagles are cheap bastards" move. The contract maxes out at $6 million if Jackson hits every incentive. He won't do that coming off the surgery. The Eagles know that too.

The Eagles signed Jackson because he was the best player available at THEIR price. Jackson had no leverage because he's coming off injury. And the Eagles value their draft picks like Donald Trump values that comb-over of his. That means they weren't going to sign any restricted free agents that would have cost them one of their precious draft picks.

This is the best Eagles fans can hope for. Unfortunately it's just more of the same crap that has left the Eagles without a championship in Andy Reid's eleven years with the team. At least the Eagles are pumping money back into the local economy by keeping the local medical professionals so busy. I can't stand it.
</intro>

    <intro>
The Cincinnati Bengals needed a wide receiver desperately and the needle looked to be pointing in Terrell Owens direction. Chad Ochocinco had been openly campaigning for the 14-year veteran ever since the Pro Bowl. But alas, they decided that the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Antonio Bryant was the better fit.

The deal is worth $28 million over four years and he can gain an extra million through incentives, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy. Official word from the team isn't expected till tomorrow. Everyone knew the Bengals needed a deep threat at receiver once the late Chris Henry went down, and Bryant and Owens had emerged as the top two candidates.

Bryant made a visit to the Bengals team facilities on Tuesday, but left town without a deal. Rumors surfaced that the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins were also interested.

The contract is very similar to the one given to Laveranues Coles last year. We all know how that one turned out. I am very surprised by the move. Yes the 6’1 Bryant is the tall receiver QB Carson Palmer craves (or at least according to Coles), and has big play ability—averaging over 15 yards per catch over his career. But this guy isn’t a Pro Bowl talent.

Two seasons ago, Bryant caught 83 passes for 1,248 yards and seven touchdowns with the Buccaneers. This was by far his best year. In 2009, he was affected by a knee surgery to repair torn cartilage and his production dropped to 39 receptions for 600 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games. Not exactly eye-popping numbers for a guy set to make seven million a year.

The fact is for his career, he has averaged fewer than four TD’s a game and a measly 710 receiving yards over his eight-year career—not worth the money.

The 29 year-old Bryant was drafted by Dallas in 2002 and has also played with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers in addition to the Bucs. Last year he was franchised tagged by the Buccaneer’s and was paid $10 million for the one-year deal.

Owens arrived Tuesday night and visited the team on Wednesday, tweeting his happiness on the way out. Now it looks like the Bengals will not sign him.

They could have had a guy with a Hall of Fame caliber career. They could of had a guy that is a home-run threat on any given play. They could have had a guy that has averaged over 10 TD’s a 1,068 yards a game in his 14-year career. Not to mention T.O. would have come at a bargain bin price.

Sure he saw a drop in production with the Bills in ’09 (829 yards and five TD’s), but who was his quarterback? Ryan Fitzpatrick. Every Bengal fan knows what happens when he is your QB. Critics thought Ochocinco was washed up after a dismal ’08 with Fitzpatrick behind center. This year he was once again a Pro Bowler.

They also could have had a guy that has proven time and time again that he can destroy a locker-room at the drop of a dime. But last year he was a model citizen with the Buffalo Bills. He bit his tongue every time a reporter laid the bait. He was finally showing signs of maturity.

In the end, all of Ochocinco’s public campaigning for T.O. went for naught. Two alpha dogs were prepared to share the ball and spotlight. Such is a rarity among the diva’s that are big play wide receivers in the NFL.

By all appearances, the Bengals flirted with Owens to appease Ochocinco, and possibly for leverage on Bryant. It also looks like internal discussions regarding a possible run at Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall was a tactic to knock down the expectations of both Bryant and T.O.

Maybe Bryant goes onto to have a stellar career as a Bengal. The problem is that questions surround Bryant’s health and overall production. The questions regarding to “look at me” side of T.O. were answered last year. The production and health subjects were never in question.

Bengal fans are left with 99 other questions in regards to the passing game, but T.O. aint one.
</intro>

    <intro>

Is there anyone else out there that dosen't understand why Houston is not all over LT?

The Texans went through most of last year with the "running back by commitee"method, because they could not find a running back that could stay productive (or hold on to the ball) and every defense they faced made them one dimensional. So why are the Texans not jumping all over LT?

Now I know that LT's production hasen't been what it once was, but he would still be a far cry better then what they have now. LT is a Texas native, playing his college ball in Ft. Worth at TCU. Most of his family still resides in Texas, and he carries a tremendous Texas fan base. At 30 Tomlinson should have at least 2 maybe 3 years left to be productive.

What LT would also bring to the table is a veteran influence on a very young team. He could be the guy that the younger Slaton, and Moats learn from and mature behind. The Texans will not be able to adress the running back position in the draft with the loss of Dunta Robinson, from an already young and depleated secondary,

If the Texans don't do something to back up their first winning season since their inception,it might be Kubiaks last.
</intro>

2010 NFL Mock Draft

Round 1

Pick #1 St. Louis Rams- Sam Bradford -QB- Oklahoma

If Steve Spagnoula wants to keep his job he needs to take a QB and he knows it. I think he does the safe pick and buys himself a little time with a young QB to develop. Why become a martyr for the new regime and take a DT that can no doubt dominate. When a QB buys you three years developing and gives you a punchers chance every Sunday. Bradford has the accuracy, intelligence, and leadership to get a few more wins. Something a DT can rarely do, remember even as dominate as Suh was in the Big 12 title game. Nebraska still lost that game. But St. Louis has the pieces and the history of catching fire so who knows what can happen in the NFL.

Pick #2 Detroit Lions- Ndamukong Suh -DT- Nebraska

The Lions look better and better for taking Stafford last year. The fate of Detroit lies in Stafford's seemingly capable hands. Now Suh becomes the future on defense. He is a rare talent and as close to a sure thing that there is in the NFL draft. He counts as two guys the moment he steps on the field because teams will double team him from day 1. The Lions couldn't be happier with the new additions of Corey Williams, Kyle Vanden Bosch, and youth in Avril, McBride, Hill and Hunter. The Lions defense will now have a foundation to be built upon.

Pick #3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Gerald McCoy -DT- Oklahoma

Tampa tried everything they could to move up and get Suh but they just didn't have the fire power. McCoy is probably the greatest consolation prize in the history of the NFL. 23 bench reps is still a lot. How many can you do? Besides he is more of a technique player. Think about Tim Duncan and you'll see what McCoy is going to be in the NFL. A dominate player, gifted intellectually, and with the size and determination to become a Hall of Fame player for his sport. He will eventually be revered as a god in Tampa.

Pick #4 Washington Redskins- Russell Okung -OT- Oklahoma State

With Levi Jones a FA and Chris Samuels retired the Redskins need a new tackle whoever their future QB is. Okung can be a prototypical NFL left tackle, he has the power to push DE back in the run game. As well as the agility, footwork, and speed needed to drop back and pass protect consistently. He has some haters but I can't see one shred of evidence that shows me the kid can't play. He played in the Big 12 and gave up like 1 sack all year long. Sorry but that's good with the level of talent your talking about.

Pick #5 Kansas City- Eric Berry -S- Tennessee

Berry gives the Chiefs phenomenal value with this pick and snag up what a lot of coaches and scouts rank as the best player in the draft. He will be an Ed Reed type player who can contribute right away. Berry will look good in red and white. He'd look good in any color but the Chiefs win the talent lotto and give their rebuilding D a leader in the secondary to make plays. Believe me Berry will make plays.

Pick #6 Seattle Seahawks- Jimmy Clausen -QB- Notre Dame

Pete Carroll jumped of the sinking ship USC and threw a match when he did it. That's all over now and what better way to start off with a clean slate then a kid who snubbed you in college. He heavily recruited Clausen who will be better than Casey and the kid went with ND. So why not burn one of your two first rounders on him. All that aside Clausen is good enough to start right away but could sit a year and learn. Who knows what Carroll will do. All I know is I hope he does Seattle better than he did USC.

Pick #7 Cleveland Browns- Derrick Morgan -DE- Georgia Tech

If Cleveland can't trade down which is their MO they have to upgrade their defensive line. It's horrendous and with Corey Williams gone, and Big Baby shortly to follow they need help and youth and Morgan is the safest pick for them. They will need another player to free him up to work but its a long draft and lots of heavies in the middle rounds. Morgan becomes a contribute right away with a high ceiling when help arrives.

Pick #8 Oakland Raiders- C.J. Spiller -RB -Clemson

Never underestimate Al Davis' ability to overlook need and take flash. I think Spiller runs a 4.25 at his pro day and Davis damn near strokes out. Spiller is all that, and the idea of a McFadden/ Spiller combination is just to much to pass on for Davis. He may not be the next Chris Johnson but Spiller is a gamer and contributes in a lot of different ways for the team lucky enough to get him. Except that the Raiders line is a joke and there QB situation is even worst so unless they go wildcat for 80% of their snaps we can see another wasted pick by the black hole of the NFL. Maybe he will do the Raiders fans a favor and take Bruce Campbell OT Maryland.

Pick #9 Buffalo Bills- Brian Bulaga -OT- Iowa

The Bills need everything on offense and the first place most people go is either LT or QB and with no value at QB this high in the draft they lock up the 6'6” 315lb mauler from Iowa who could very well be the best LT in the draft. He anchored the Iowa teams running game that made Shonn Greene so coveted by the Jets. He will need help but is a safe value pick for a rebuilding offense.

Pick #10 Jacksonville Jaguars- Rolando McClain -ILB- Alabama

No other player in the draft has a higher football IQ than McClain. He dissects plays in an instance and is physically imposing to say they least. He has all the tool to be the next Patrick Willis and could revolutionize the position from an intellectual level. He will undoubtedly coach once he finishes his Hall of Fame career.

Pick #11 Denver Broncos- Jason Pierre-Paul -DE- South Florida

A physical freak, who did nothing but turn heads at the combine. With 2 first round picks the Broncos can afford to gamble a little and need players on the defensive line. Josh McDaniel is a bit of a risk taker I'd say and this pick is a 50/50 shot. He's either the next Julius Peppers or the next Erasmus James. I think anyone that can do 13 consecutive back flips at his size 6'6” 270lbs deserves a little attention but I think the Broncos reach a bit to address an obvious need. Dez Bryant could be here also but need to have a great pro day. Or he need McDaniels to really really want to send Brandon Marshall a message.

Pick #12 Miami Dolphins- Joe Haden -CB- Florida

Its just to perfect for them to pass up. Vontae Davis and Joe Haden give them lock down corners for a decade. Plus Haden is a Florida boy and a Bill Parcels kind of player. He was a little slow at the combine but can make it up easily at his pro day and you better believe the coaches are all gonna have their own stop watch when they see him run his 40 again. I think he redeems himself and is to consistently disruptive in the passing game to be overlooked long and Miami who wasn't planning on taking a corner can't pass on a talent like Haden this late in the draft. They might also take Carlos Dunlap if he interviews very very well.

Pick #13 San Francisco- Trent Williams -OT- Oklahoma

San Francisco has the great luxury of 2 first round picks and lock up Williams who is the second highest ranked OT on more than a few big boards. He is fast for 6'41/2” 318lbs and of course is strong enough to dominate at LT. He could also play RT but is better suited on the strong side. San Francisco has questions at QB still but they at least got someone watching his back whoever ends up taking snaps.

Pick #14 Seattle Seahawks- Taylor Mays -S- USC

Carroll reunites with his love child Mays in Seattle. They need help on both lines but I think Carroll looks to bring in his type of players and Mays is defiantly that. He's a physical freak and warrants a top 15 selection. He might have coverage issues but he definitely has all the tools. Does he have the drive? If anyone can get the kid to perform its Carroll.

Pick #15 New York Giants- Dan Williams -DT- Tennessee

I know one thing about this kid. He's a gamer, and the best NT prospect in the game. He has a low center of gravity and can penetrate in the 3-4 and 4-3 defenses. The Giants will rely on him to open up Tuck/ Kiwaunuka/ Umenyiora on the ends. He will be a good NFL player who is under rated and unappreciated. I think he could be a Casey Hampton type player and will be at least solid for the G men.

Pick #16 Tennessee Titans- Brandon Graham -DE/OLB- Michigan

I know that the loss of Vanden Bosch hurts the Titans more than they'll admit and they look for redemption in a versatile player from the second best LB school in college. The beautiful thing about Graham is he can play anywhere either side of the LB or line he can drop back into coverage and rush the passer. He is physically gifted and mentally tough. Graham could be another LaMarr Woodley

Pick #17 San Francisco- Earl Thomas -S/CB- Texas

Singletary loves the D and needs help at corner in the worst way. Dre Bly is a free agent and they have Shawntae Spencer on the other side so this pick seems necessary. Thomas can be a lock down corner with the right coaching ans if Clements is there and can show him the ropes than I think he develops sooner rather than later. I think this pick makes the most sense for the 49ers at this point and offers the most value.

Pick #18 Pittsburgh Steelers- Mike Iupati -OG- Idaho

The Steelers have the luxury and the foresight to the best player available. That is Iupati by far the best guard prospect in the draft he has all the physical and mental tool to dominate in the run game. He can also pass block with the best of them and will be a perennial pro bowler in 3 years. Especially with his co linemen, and Mendenhall pounding the rock. The Steelers always have the best linemen and this time is no exception.

Pick #19 Atlanta Falcons- Everson Griffen -DE- USC

The falcons need all the help they can get when it comes to pressuring the quarterback. Griffen has prototypical size at 6'3” 273 lbs and he ran a 4.66 in the 40 yard dash he thought he'd run in the 4/5 range. He can flat out get to the quarterback and is able to play in a 3-4 or 4-3 so he's versatile as well. I like what I've seen and I think the Falcons did too.

Pick #20 Houston Texans- Sergio Kindle -DE/OLB- Texas

I expect he'll do well with great range at multiple positions and has the motor and intelligence to do big things. He'll be a hero to Houston and gives them another solid defensive player. They where hoping to land Earl Thomas but will settle for his teammate. They might also take Kyle Wilson who is flying up draft boards as well. But I think the Texas connection is to much for them to pass up especially in an area of need.

Pick #21 Cincinnati Bengals- Dez Bryant -WR- Oklahoma State

the first WR slips to 21 which is where another WR slipped a while ago to Minnesota. Dez will probably not be the next Randy Moss but he is good enough to garner attention opposite Ochocinco and could benefit from the double teams Chad will likely see. He still needs to run faster at the pro-day workout but again he'll have the luxury of the coaches all having their own stop watches. I think he is tough and can make plays for the Bengals something they need bad opposite Ocho ever since Houshmanzedah left.

Pick #22 New England- Carlos Dunlap -DE- Florida

The Patriots can afford the gamble but for them to pass on a talent like Dunlap with his up side is not like the Patriots front office. He would have been a top ten pick had he been able to stay awake at that damn red light. If anyone can straighten him out its the Patriots and he doesn't deserve to go there. However I think if he's there at #22 the patriots value based drafting won't allow them to pass on him.

Pick #23 Green Bay Packers- Maurkice Pouncey -C- Florida

Green Bay need interior lineman in the worst way, and Pouncey is the best center and can play guard and maybe even tackle. He is 6'5” 311lbs and the right kind of kid. He has a high motor and can hold the line of attack to allow the ball carrier to find the seem and get to the next level. His only issue is making mostly shot gun snaps to Tebow over his career but like I said he's versatile enough to play either guard spot. Great value pick for the Packers.

Pick #24 Philadelphia Eagles- Sean Weatherspoon -OLB- Missouri

he has all the tools physically and mentally to excel at the next level. He is competitive and has a high motor. He turned heads at the combine and Andy Reid was one of them. The Eagles spent their whole wad on offense last year this year its the D's turn. Weatherspoon is a great start to that.

Pick #25 Baltimore Ravens- Bruce Campbell -OT- Maryland

He's been flying up the draft boards and could unseat any of the above mentioned tackles for their respected teams, as well as being a perfect workout warrior for Al Davis to pull the trigger on him over Spiller. He is probably a Tony Mandarich, or Robert Gallery player in the making which is why I think Davis shy's away from him. The Ravens can move him to Oher's spot and move Oher to the strong side, “The Blindside” do I owe Sandra Bullock money now?

Pick #26 Arizona Cardinals- Anthony Davis -OT- Rutgers

Some people have Davis as a top 10 pick. I think the guy has issues that the combine exposed. He's 6'5” 323lbs and ran a 5.44 in the 40 yard dash. Now to me that's good but he looked out of shape and slow to say the least. He could go higher, like Campbell he could unseat any of the OT drafted earlier. Its a deep year for tackles and the top ten or so prospects are very talented but in different ways and need the right teams to be successful. I think Davis to the Cardinals makes the most sense after his slide down the draft board.

Pick #27 Dallas Cowboys- Charles Brown -OT- USC

Its a run on the tackles in the end of the first. Jerry Jones is just happy there's one left worth of the Flozell Adams throne. Brown should do fine he played against top tier talent and held his own. He's physically imposing and has great technique. He could dominate but for now can at least spell Adams until he finally calls it quits or Jones does it for him.

Pick #28 San Diego- Ryan Mathews -RB- Fresno State

The Chargers are biting their fingers over this one. They almost traded up several times when they where afraid of losing their baby. I think Best is the better pick for them but they need a Sproles compliment and Mathews fits the bill a little better for a complimentary to the lighting bug. Mathews should do fine as long as the Chargers can salvage enough of their line to block for him.

Pick #29 New York Jets- Golden Tate -WR- Notre Dame

he passed his first test the combine and has the skill set to be a #1 receiver. The Jets need it for Sanchez to feel comfortable in the passing game. He can only check down so many times. I think that Ryan will go for obvious need. Especially since they just locked up Antonio Cromartie to tandem with Revis the WR spot jumps to the top of their board.

Pick #30 Minnesota Vikings- Kyle Wilson -CB- Boise State

I think this is a pot shot until the Vikings know what they have in Favre and Pat Williams next year. Like if they will have them at all. What I do know is with the Vikings secondary they need help. Kyle Wilson is a great talent and could go higher if a team really covets the position. I think he'll be a lock down corner and is a great kid to boot.

Pick #31 Indianapolis Colts- Brian Price -DT- UCLA

The Colts need to get Freeney some more help and Price is their guy. He's a good player and a great value for the Colts this late in the draft. He's listed at 6'1” 303 but will bulk up and has a low center of gravity that allows him to drive into the backfield and free up the ends to make plays. Something the Colts needed help with in the Super Bowl.

Pick #32 New Orleans Saints- Jerry Hughes -DE/OLB- TCU

Saints could use his versatility on defense and he is another draft board flier that is an amazing value for the Saints this late in the draft. He can give the Saints a pass rusher who can also cover the TE and backs out on the flats. He's a solid kid who can contribute for them right away and possibly start day one for the Super Bowl champs.
</intro>

    <intro>
I doubt it. And not because Peppers hasn't earned the colossal contract he's getting from the Bears, because he has. The man owned the line of scrimmage for eight years in Carolina, soaking up blockers and posting double-digit sack totals. He's a beast and deserves to be compensated as such. I'll just be surprised if he remains a beast long enough to justify that massive payday.

Fact is, Julius Peppers is thirty years old. He can't keep up this level of intensity for that much longer. His body won't let him. Peppers has weathered eight brutal seasons of the most physical game on the planet, at a position that involves taking serious punishment on every single play. This isn't some prima-donna QB that's entering his ninth year in the league. Peppers is a defensive end. A premier pass-rusher. The guy's been the focal point of every offense he's faced for practically his whole career. Sure, he's a machine, but getting mauled by a pair of angry O-linemen snap after snap will inevitably take its toll.

That's why I won't be shocked if it turns out that Peppers' best years are indeed behind him. It's true that other defensive linemen have remained productive well into their thirties (Neil Smith, Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor), but I just don't see that happening with Peppers. He was so incredibly dominant for so long in Carolina, and it'll be truly impressive if he can continue to play at that level for years to come. I just wouldn't bet on it.
</intro>

    <intro>
The free-agency period has kicked off and it appears that the Chicago Bears have been active early on in the process.

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with former Minnesota Viking tailback, Chester Taylor. The four-year contract is worth over $12 million, $7 million of which is guaranteed.

This move is definitely a big one for the Bears on the offensive side of the ball. Chicago struggled last year in the run game as Matt Forte failed to reach the thousand yard mark after rushing for over 1,200 yards during his rookie year. Even if Matt Forte does return to form, it will still be a good move because Taylor can provide a break and can give Forte some rest to keep him from wearing down as the season goes on. This has been a problem area with the Bears for the past two seasons.

It appears that the Bears are also trying to address some holes on the defensive side of the ball as well. Reports have it that DE Julian Peppers is close to signing with the team as well. Some scouts have mentioned that Peppers is inconsistent, but his play speaks volumes.

He has averaged double digit sack totals in six of the last eight seasons and with him on the front line, the Bears’ ability to generate a pass rush on opposing quarterbacks surely will increase. Last season for the Panthers, Julius Peppers recorded 10.5 sacks, two interceptions and forced five fumbles.

The two sides are said to be reviewing the terms of the contract and it is pending NFLPA approval. If all goes according to plan, one of the top free agents of the season will be heading to Chicago.

I feel that these two moves alone are just as important as the trade the Bears made for Cutler last year. Some teams talk about trying to get better during the off-season, but it seems that the Bears are actually putting their money where their mouth is.

Hopefully these deals will achieve the desired results.

    <intro>
As far as the combine, the year I went, I was pretty prepared for it. I talked to a good friend of mine, Tyvon Branch who plays for the Raiders, who was there the year prior to me going, and he schooled me really well on what to expect and what the surroundings would be.

Once I got there I was excited and it was a big step in the combine process meeting all these guys who were ranked either ahead of me or behind me and all of us being in the same place. Seeing the guys you played against and watched play every Saturday all together and with the same purpose in mind was a great experience. It was also exciting to go out there and show my talent for all of the GMs, coaches and scouts all at the same time.

The first couple of days all you do are your medical tests like X-rays, and MRI’s if you had any previous injuries. Then there are the drug tests, urine tests, blood tests and a lot of poking and prodding.

Once all of the medical stuff is out of the way, you meet with the teams coaches and GM’s that might be interested in you. Each team has a different style as far the interviews. Some of them want to learn about you as a person, your college experiences, and what makes you, you.

Other teams are a lot more focused on the football aspect rather then the personal side of you and will ask you what you would do on a certain play or situation or what type of scheme you played in college and felt the most comfortable with.

It didn’t surprise me that teams varied with their questions. Some of them have already looked at the film of you and know what your accolades on the field are and they are more concerned with you as a person, your personality, and what you are generally like as a person. They will also want to learn if you have ever been in trouble, been arrested, and if you have, what you are doing to turn your life around and get it back on the right track.

Once the actual drills started, by that point, we were tired of waiting as it was the third or fourth day of being there and a lot of nerves have built up. When it came time to actually doing the drills, the adrenalin kicked in and was pumping. It was almost just like a game. Your natural ability took over and you wanted to put out your very best.

Once it was finally over, I was excited and I did really well. But for me personally I thought I could have done better in the 40 yard dash. My times were not as good as I thought they would be. But I knew that I would have another chance during my pro day, and I did a lot better and those times were more of what I expected of myself.

Overall though, I did really well at the combine.

My overall experience at the combine was good, just all of the testing was too long, but in general I was really happy with my combine experience.

    <intro>
I've long been right there with you for decades looking for the Lions to make a statement and say "We are going to do what it takes to win". Finally I see rays of light poking threw the clouds as the storm begins to pass.

Last year's draft gave us the first inclination that times were changing. Stafford, Delmas, Levy, Pettigrew, Hill, and even Follett, Brown, and Williams are good if not great players in the making. Now all we need is to get them some help. With all the attention on the draft, I felt on Friday morning that this was kind of the red headed step child of the off season schedule. I must say "Not anymore". Now let's look at what the Lions did and are setting themselves up for the draft.

#1 Kyle Vanden Bosch- Instantly improves our pass rush and the leadership and motor he brings is just what we need to keep building the Schwartz philosophy on defense. He's not the youngest guy but can definetly hold down the spot for 2-3 years and be productive in doing so.

#2 Nate Burleson- I know he has robotic knees, and an inconsistant past. But he is finally healthy (I hope) and has never had the flags you see with top tier talent WR. Is he top tier? No, but Calvin Johnson is and Burleson knows how to utilize the mismatches that will happen with teams focusing so much on Megatron. He has something we havent had in a #2 WR. HANDS

#3 Corey Williams- It scares me a little to see the Lions get a penetration 1 gap DT on the 1st day of FA when we have Hill, and two DT prospects in the draft that are being touted as the second coming of Sapp and Seymour. But talent is talent and if he is the worst case for the Lions D line than Im good with that. I still want to see Suh in a Lions uniform more than I want to see a Hershel Walker type trade. However knowing our line has Avril/Williams/Hill/Bosch/Hunter rotating already does make the thought of losing out on 1 or both DT's in the draft a little more bearable.

We still have a lot of work to do (secondary, running back, offensive line) in the off season but at least we have addressed needs and for a change. I see the Lions going after the type of players they need to be a better team overall. Not just signing a guy because he will sign, or he had a good year.

Whats next? Well the one thing I know for sure, is that I know nothing about what the Lions front office will do at any moment. However, I know what I would like to see them do and that's what keeps me going. So until the Lions realize they need me in the war room this will have to suffice.

1st off I would go after Antrel Rolle, or Chris Hope in the rest of the time for Free Agency. We have to get Delmas some help and with the draft having so many young secondary guys, I feel we need a veteran prescence in the secondary to show our young guys the ropes. Picking up either of these guys and drafting a Patrick Robinson, Brandon Ghee, or Chad Jones type player would do for our secondary what Suh would do for our D line.

2nd off Draft Suh. Even if we get something over the moon for the pick I stay and take Suh. McCoy is a great player, and very polished. That said Suh's ceiling is limitless, his drive, motor, and love of the game set him in a class all by himself. He was born to play the nose for the Detroit Lions, a blue collar kid with a chance to anchor a young defense for a decade.

3rd off you can never have enough good RB or O linemen. It's the chicken and the egg arguement. Does a good line make a good back, or vice versa. I think you need both and we have neither. With Thomas Jones, Brian Westbrook, and LT all on the radar I think people forget that LenDale White would be a great pick up. He's on the right side of 30 and hasn't taken near the damage a back his age would have. Are the Lions willing to give what it would take to get him? I don't know, but I think he'd look good in Honolulu blue.

Obviously there is still a long way to go but I love the first day, and if they can keep the momentum and keep their focus on the big picture, I think we might finally be seeing the dawn of golden age in Lions football.
