<intro>
The Cavs are approaching halftime of what is their 50th game this season. LeBron just swooped into the lane and completed a three-point play, the old-fashioned way. And smothering D has given the Cavs a sizable lead thus far. Assuming the Cavs maintain this 18-point lead, at home, against a tired-looking Grizz team coming in on the second night of a back to back where they edged out the Lake Show.

The Shaq experiment got off to a slow start, but over the last two weeks has picked up and proven to be a well-needed acquisition. Anthony Parker has been a solid contributor at both ends. Anderson Varejao has evolved from a floppy foreign faux defender into a legitimate, cerebral defender. Bench warmers J.J. Hickson and Jawad Williams from last season have also come along to be key contributors this year. Oh yeah, and that Bron guy is looking to repeat at MVP, straight into the 2020's.

So as the Cavs head into the All-Star break and the trade deadline looms over the league as the first step towards the championship, the question comes up, what do the Cavs need to do to get better?

I submit to you what I said last year... absolutely nothing.

While last season did not fare like the Cavs were hoping, they ran into a buzzsaw last year in the Orlando Magic. The Magic were the one team which I believe could beat the Cavs and did just that through mismatches at nearly each position and an outside shooting team which caught serious fire at the perfect time. It seemed through all six games every Magic player could not miss. And is there any coincidence that overrated Rashard Lewis played lights out, stole Game 1 from the Cavs (which turned out to be the series decider right there, as the Cavs could not pose a threat on the road), was suspended ten games to start this season and has not returned to form all season?

Anyways, this year, as I have been saying this whole season is the: Celtics are overrated, old, and are on the downslide; Orlando misses Hedo Turkoglu more than anyone besides me though since the beauty of their team last year was their length; Atlanta is rising, but not at the Cavs level; and the rest of the West is quickly catching up with the Lakers, who still are not tough, but a finesse team (even with Ron Artest) as the Cavs have man-handled them in two viewings this season.

Right now, even despite the Cavs now nine game winning streak, they have yet to peak as a team. During this current streak, LeBron has elevated his game to Magic/Jordan/Robertson levels with former benchwarmers Hickson, Jawad Williams, and Daniel Gibson. He is establishing his inside game, polishing his defense on all levels and hitting from long-range at a greater efficiency than ever before. They are up a game over the Lakers now for best overall record (again) and are 5 1/2 games over the Magic, sitting at the second seed in the east. And this year's record is not as inflated as last year's, as the Cavs are beating teams over .500 percentage at a high clip, especially championship contenders.

Especially during this streak also, we are seeing the emergence of Shaq as the dominant center again as he is a double-double enforcer inside the paint which could be the ultimate difference maker.

Remember, this year's Cavs team is rolling currently without two starters from last year's 66-win team, Mo Williams and Delonte West. Before Delonte went down, he was hitting his stride filling in for Mo for a game and coming off the bench as an energy guy with toughness down the stretch. Mo was playing well too. And the Cavs have cleaned up the messy turnovers which have plagued their season before this streak.

And to top it all off, Cavs faithful have yet to see Leon Powe, an inside presence who can get a double-double in 20 minutes a game on sheer determination alone. And he has championship experience with the Celtics from a few years ago.

Once the Cavs get these three guys back into the fold, they essentially have proven talent to be 12-deep throughout the playoffs once those three guys are back. As the future bench warmers get significant experience now and prove themselves, once these three injured players come back, surely to make a difference down the stretch and into the second season, the Cavs have no need for any of these rumored trades.

Now, this talk about the Cavs lacking a "Stretch 4" type player — such as a Rashard Lewis or Antawn Jamison. These players are lacking around the league, since all of the sudden in the last handful of years their market value has skyrocketed. But once again, I submit to you, while it may be nice for the Cavs to see Jamison (who may be the most available player the Cavs would like to see come into town) or someone else of his stature lace em up, the Cavs have this player in LeBron, who is a freak able to play four positions, maybe even center in some cases.

(Other players like Amare are not needed either. The Cavs do not need to worry about salary dumps, like others since Gilbert has proven he is willing to spend, and win. The Cavs need to focus on the players they have now, block out silly trade rumors by faux commentators at ESPN and elsewhere, who are actually nothing more than fantasy league players, not real analysts of the game and other "video game players" who just want to see All-Star teams, not real teams, and take care of business now.)

The beautiful thing about the Cavs this year is they have been able to play many different styles of basketball; small ball, multiple 7-footers, or five guys on the floor over 6-8 at once. This Cavs team, despite missing this suddenly crucial piece (slightly sarcastic) of the desired Stretch 4, are more versatile than ever before, which is also more versatile and dynamic than any team in the league. Tall, finesse team like the Lakers, there's a CAV for that. Small and quick opponent, there's a CAV for that too. They can back you down, shoot over you, outshoot you, dribble penetrate, fast break, work the shot clock, and work the triangle through Shaq. Oh, and they play amazing team defense as well, which is still key come playoff time.

Many things which were questions marks coming into this year — the Shaq experiment, Delonte's legal and personal problems, LeBron free agent speculation, bench production, and role players showing up in prime time like Mo — have all turned into positives for this team and have not been the distractions many national pundits predicted. Plus, with a favorably easy second half schedule, the Cavs have positioned themselves perfectly for a championship run towards the O'Brien trophy and a parade through downtown Cleveland, finally.

All the Cavs need to do now is continue to follow LeBron's royal example, get healthy, and not let the spotlight get to them. Let the other teams lower on the ladder than they are scramble for missing pieces which do not exist, as many acquisitions have not worked anyways from the offseason anyways (remember the Rasheed Wallace, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson pickups? Me neither, all of which I knew would not work as "experts" were predicting). This season is in the Cavs' control. Let's hope they don't fissel out at the end, as they have been known to do in the past in games they lose interest in against weaker competition.
</intro>

    <intro>
Kobe Bryant set the all-time record for points scored by a Laker. Bryant got the record, but Memphis got the win. (Yahoo sports) Bryant passed Jerry West. For those young ones out there, West is the player who was the model for the silhouette on the NBA logo.

The Lakers were coming off a win over the Celtics. JT3 wrote about the win over Boston. The Lakers may have experienced a bit of a let down after the win against their rival. A little tip for friends of Las Vegas is that sometimes teams suffer a bit of a let down after a big game followed by a lesser opponent.

In passing Jerry West, Bryant moved up to 14th on the all-time list. Next at number 13 is Reggie Miller, and Bryant will probably also pass Alex English at 12 before the end of the season. Bryant is second among active players, former teammate and current rival Shaquille O'Neal is currently in 5th on the all-time list.

At the top of the list of players is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played many seasons with the Lakers. But he also spent a long part of his career in Milwaukee, and is only 3rd place on the Lakers all-time list.

    <intro>
How much needs to be said when you mention Lakers vs. Celtics? These two teams have combined for 32 of the 63 championships and they are the last two champions with the Celtics winning in 2008 and the Lakers were champions in 2009. The Celtics swept the Lakers during the regular season on their way to the championship and the Lakers returned the favor by sweeping the Celtics in their two meetings last season. While the Lakers have owned the top spot in the West with a record of 36-11, the Celtics have struggled a little bit this season at 29-15 winning only 13 of their 20 home games after only losing a total of 6 last year. So would the Lakers continue to roll or would the Celtics get a much needed win over rivals from Los Angeles?

The Lakers would jump on the Celtics early as they streaked out to a 30-19 lead after the first period, shooting over 60% from the field. The Celtics behind Rajon Rondo would storm back in the second quarter as they ran off 15 consecutive points to take a 49-40 lead with just over two minutes remaining and would settle for a 52-47 lead going into the half. Kobe Bryant had just nine points on 4 of 10 shooting.

The Celts would still led by seven (73-66) going into the final period but they had ample chances to put the Lakers away in the third quarter and failed to due so; something that would come back to haunt them. The Celtics would lead by eleven in the fourth but the Lakers would close within in 89-88 in the closing seconds. Kobe Bryant who had struggled for the entire game would put Los Angeles up 90-89, hitting a tough jumper over Celtic guard Ray Allen with seven seconds remaining in the game. On the Celtics last possession, Paul Pierce would drive the to the lane and passed to Ray Allen on the left wing and Allen's shot would miss to preserve the win for the Los Angeles Lakers.

For the Celtics it would be their third consecutive loss after falling to the Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic and now the Los Angeles Lakers. With this defeat, the Celtics fall to the fourth spot in the East trailing Cleveland, Orlando and Atlanta. While there's a lot of basketball left to be played this year, the Celtics are going to have to turn things around quickly if they want to contend in the Eastern Conference.
</intro>

Is Andre Miller superman?

The Portland Trailblazers were on a three game losing slump and Andre Miller was straight tired of it.

The Blazers traveled to Dallas and played some though ball as they fought the Mavs hard in an overtime conclusion. The blazers beat Dallas 114-112 snapping a three game losing streak, which is a prayer come true for Blazer fans.

Did the hurt Blazers really do it? Go into Dallas and beat the Mavs two times in one season? Or did I just make this all up? No, it’s the truth.

Andre Miller was the star of this matchup. He carried this Portland team on his shoulders with 52 points, tied for second most points for an individual in Portland’s history, Andre went 22 for 31 and shot 100% from three point range. Miller had five rebounds, two assists and two steals for Portland.

Not only did Miller play like he was superman, Portland broke a three game losing streak and won their first overtime game this season (1-3). The Blazers finally showed fans that they are not the “Fail Blazers”, but they are surely the Trailblazers.

Andre Miller crushed his previous record of 38 points in a single game; his record is now set at 52. “I felt like I owed something to the team.” Andre Miller said to Mike Barrett at the end of the game.

No doubt after shooting 15% the last two games, Andre did owe something to his teammates, his coach and his fans.

Miller brought hope back to Blazer fans tonight; Portland has won two games in Dallas this year after going on an 11 game losing streak in Dallas the last few years. Blazer fans should feel great right now, Andre Miller and Steve Blake are getting along and the Blazers are playing solid. As long as Portland stays above .500 and clinches a playoff berth, than there is a chance that center Greg Oden will be back for the playoffs.

Once Portland’s all-star Brandon Roy returns in a week or so, the Blazers should be hot and be an elite team in the NBA. Portland still has hope and the season shall be played on.

All Portland fans should remember this one night, the biggest win for Portland this season, as Miller became superman and the Blazers ended their drought.
</intro>

    <intro>
  The participants for the 2010 NBA-All Star game have been announced, and just like every year, deserving players have been inevitably left off the rosters. For those who don't know how the teams are selected, the starters for each conference are voted in by the fans, and the reserves are voted by the coaches. For the record, the starters for the East include Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson at the guard spots, Lebron James and Kevin Garnett as the forwards and Dwight Howard at Center. For the West, the starting two guards include Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant, with Tim Duncan and Carmelo Anthony at forward and Amare Stoudemire at center.

Let me first start off by making this comparison- The starters for the NBA All-Star game are equivalent to a student government board at a middle school. Allen Iverson was not voted in because he is the best guard in the East, just as Herbie Conway Jr. was not voted Vice President of Jefferson Middle School because of his effective governing policies. Allen Iverson snuck into this All-Star game easier than the "White House Party Crashers" snuck into the very exclusive dinner at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Now what this does, other than make the starters for the East far inferior to those of the West, is it takes a roster spot away from someone who has worked their tail off to put themselves in a position to participate in this prestigous event. The Reserves for the East, voted on by the coaches, are as follows: Rajon Rondo, Al Horford, Derrick Rose, Chris Bosh, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace.

Not on that list is David Lee. Here is David's resume a little more than halfway through the season: 19.4 ppg (First among centers in the east), 11.4 Rebounds per game (3rd among Centers in the East) and 3.5 assists, not to mention an efficiency rating of 6th in the entire NBA. Al Horford, who averages 13 points and 9 rebounds, made the team most likely because he is on a winning Hawks squad as opposed to a 9th in the East New York Knicks team. But take Al Horford off that Hawks team, and you still have a dynamite roster that can compete with top teams in the East. Take Dave off the Knicks and its like taking out all of the colorful marshmallows in a box of lucky charms- those other boring, tasteless pieces just won't get the job done. Now, Horford is a terrific talent, but when it comes to the All-Star team, cmon. Lee was robbed by the NBA just as Terry Benedict was robbed by Daniel Ocean. Enough with the "Hawks are in the playoffs and the Knicks arn't"- The Hawks would still be in the NBA playoffs without Al while the Knicks would be a 4 seed in the NCAA tournament without Lee.

Looking at the West, the reserves voted by the coaches include: Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Pau Gasol, Kevin Durant, Zach Randolph, Dirk Nowitzki and Brandon Roy. The only argument here is Pau Gasol. He has missed 17 games so far (thats 37% of his games). Thats like being named employee of the month for January and only showing up to the office from January 1 through January 13th. Chris Kaman on the other hand, has played in 40 plus games, and is averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds. (Gasol- 17ppg,11 rpg). Because Kobe is constantly double teamed, Bynum plays center, and 7 foot tall Gasol gets to play forward, he gets himself more clear looks than a smokin hot girl on facebook with no privacy settings. But since Gasol is on the Lakers and Kaman is on the Clippers, Pau gets to enjoy the wild party weekend in Dallas while Chris has to sit home and watch re-runs of Jersey Shore.

The All-Star voting process needs to change, especially since the likes of old man Iverson is starting and taking the place of players who deserve it. (You know what, I think as an intern, I'm going to park in the VP's reserved parking space tomorrow at work). Last night Iverson shot 3-10, with 6 points. To me, an All-Star is someone who never, ever, ever, ever shoots 3-10 and finishes with 6 points. For those of you who voted for "The Answer" to start in the All-Star game, you answered incorrectly, and if I was your professor you would fail whatever class it is that I'm teaching, in this case, it's "Common Sense and Intelligence- Do you have any? 101".
</intro>

    <intro>
The NBA suspended Gilbert Arenas for the rest of the season.

In addition, Javaris Crittendon was also suspended by NBA Commissioner David Stern. So now the Bullets, I mean Wizards, have even less going for them. At 14-30, they are buried in the bottom of the Eastern Conference, saved only from the basement by the New Jersey Nets and their 4 wins.

It seems to be par for the course in Washington for the sports teams. The Redskins, a once proud franchise, held a memorial chanting "Hail to the Deadskins". The Nationals brought baseball back to D.C. by taking a team from Montreal. They renamed the Expos. They did not use the name Senators, seeing as the first Washington Senators went to Minnesota and the second Senators went to Texas, I guess it was time to try a new name. Still, while they hang out at the bottom of the National League they look more like the Expos, or perhaps the old Senators from when Washington was first in war, first in peace, and last in the American League. I miss the Expos, it was fun having a team in a province that speaks French that played some of their home games on an island that spoke Spanish.

But I can relate to where Washington is right now, I have seen a city there before. I "came of age" as a sports fan in Boston in the 80's. The Celtics were in the Larry Bird Era. Celt's fans thought they were entitled to more championships, a feeling that would subside in the 90's. 1986 was one of the greatest years in Boston Sports History. The Patriots made their first Super Bowl. It is interesting to see the Saints and their fans experience their first trip to the Super Bowl, and to think back of the euphoria Boston fans felt back in '86. We actually thought New England had a chance. We even had a 3-0 lead on the Chicago Bears. I wonder how much we are seeing history repeat itself with the Colts and Saints. Later in '86, Bird won his third and final NBA Championship. The Red Sox also had a great season. I like to think of it as the season where Dave Henderson helped beat the Angels with an incredible home run with the team on the brink of elimination. It is so much better than seeing it as the team that gave it away with a passed ball/wild pitch and ball through the legs. But I don't blame Bill Buckner. John McNamara should have had Dave Stapleton at first and Calvin Schiraldi should have remembered how to pitch. Still, '86 was magical.

Then came the 1990s. It was a lost decade for sports in Boston. It was the only decade where the Celtics did not win a championship. The Red Sox did not make it back to the World Series. Bill Parcells brought credibility to the Patriots, and a Super Bowl appearance, but another loss, this time to the Packers. But things turned around in the new decade, with three Super Bowl wins for the Patriots, two World Series Championships for the Red Sox and even the Celtics returned to glory winning the NBA Championship. 2004 easily replaced 1986 as the greatest year in Boston Sports History. For me, my personal life was sky high during the first half of the decade, and down the tubes the second half of the decade. As a result, I think I enjoyed the wins in the earlier half of the decade more. I've been thinking about this as there has been discussion about rooting for the Saints because of Hurricane Katrina. I just can not make the connection. It is just a game.

Meanwhile, in Washington, things seem to be improving. Some talk shows suggest they could have addition by subtraction on the Wizards. (Really? Let me know how that works out). The Redskins have brought in Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan, and it kind of reminds me of when Parcells came to New England. The Capitals are doing quite well.

And it seems we will always have the Nationals.
</intro>

    <intro>
All-Star weekend- The only place where one gets to see Mark Wahlberg rip down a rebound, throw an outlet pass to Hannah Montana, who then relays the ball up court to Nelly, who throws an alley-oop to Terrell Owens. Where else can Shaq make his directorial debut, capturing NBA-LIVE esque dunks on his mini camcorder, while expressing such disbeleif, such excitment and awe, as if he was a 13 year old boy seeing his first set of boobies. Where else can you see 100,000 people's jaws drop faster than NBC late night ratings, and veterans who have seen it all simultaneously realize that they havn't seen anything. A place where rookies can showcase their games against the rookies of last year, and where 3 point snipers can dial it up 25 times in 60 seconds. A place where rivals from the east and rivals from the west team up respectively, to prove which side of the nation has the strongest game. A place where enemies become allies, and foes become friends.

Only during All-Star weekend can guys like Jason Kapono make a name for themselves. A place where NBA stars become Avatars. Dwight Howard transforms into Superman, while Nate Robinson becomes Kryto-Nate. It's every basketball fan's fantasy world. I'd like to see Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony take on LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard- DONE. I'd like to see Ray Allen and Dirk Nowitzki duel it out from downtown, like 2 marksmen in different towers taking aim at their helpless enemies- DONE. It's seeing the greatest athletes in the world do what they do best. Imagine letting James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese team up behind the camera to shoot George Clooney, Will Smith, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and every sexy and talented actress out there, in one 4 hour movie.

NBA All-Star weekend is just straight up fun. Every All-Star weekend is a different episode to the longest running sitcom ever. You got Dr. J being the first to soar to the hoop from the foul line, setting a trend for years to come. You got mini underdog Spud Webb defeating fellow teammate Dominique "The Human Highlight Reel" Wilkens. There was Michael Jordan winning back to back slam dunk competitions, and Vince Carter perfoming miracles in the air. It's a place where guys like Brent Barry can show the world, "Hey, white men can actually jump". There was Larry Bird taking down 3 consecutive 3-point shootouts, and bench warmer Jason Kapono setting world records from behind the arc. 5 foot 8 Nate Robinson jumped over 7 feet tall Dwight Howard for God's sake, does anyone else think thats incredible?

It's a time and place where players can be themselves, and hidden personalities are revealed. It's one big VIP party that everyone has a pass to. Mark Cuban had some promising insight regarding next month's event, stating, "The Super Bowl, from a television perspective, is the biggest event of the year. But for attendance and partying, All-Star Weekend will make the Super Bowl look like a bar mitzvah."

Each year contains a different storyline. What's this year's going to be?
</intro>

    <intro>
        Who's the best team in the NBA right now? The defending champions Los Angelas Lakers? The Cleveland Cavaliers or Boston Celtics maybe? Anyone could make an arguement for any of these teams or throw couple of more in this discussion but in about 2 years one team you will have to include in this discussion will be the Memphis Grizzlies. Yep, that's right, the Memphis Grizzlies.

      The Grizzlies have won 22,22 and 24 games each of the last 3 seasons. So far this they've already won 23 and we haven't reached the all-star break yet. Right now they are riding a franchise high 10 game home winning streak as they get set to take on the Eastern Conference Champions from last season, the Orlando Magic. Right now, Memphis is currently only a half game out of the 8th playoff spot behind the Houston Rockets. They are about to start an important 10 game stretch starting with Magic in which they face the Spurs,Cavaliers,Lakers,Suns,Rockets and Hornets. The last 3 teams are they ones they'll be battling all season long for a playoff spot which would be a tremendous achievement for the team, this organization.

       The Grizzlies had a somewhat interesting start to season. This past offseason the Grizzlies signed Allen Iverson when no one else wanted the all-star guard. Iverson missed all of training camp and the first few games nursing a sore hamstring. When Iverson did decide to play, it was obvious that he wanted no part of the Grizzlies plan to have him provide fire power off the bench. Iverson wanted to be inserted into the starting line-up right away or else. When head coach Lionel Hollins made it clear that he was the calling the shots and not the future Hall of Fame guard, Iverson decided to take his ball and go home, quiting on the team and later returning to Philadelphia after considering retiring. At this point the team was 1-8. The team had a player's only meeting and since that time the Grizzlies have gone 22 - 11 which is the 3rd best record in the entire NBA behind the Lakers and Cavaliers.

         The Grizzlies are the youngest team in the league. Their starting line up consist of Rudy Gay who is in his 4th season, Mike Conley in his 3rd season, along with O.J. Mayo and Marc Gasol who are in their 2nd season. The team acquired power forward Zach Randolph from the Clippers this past summer to add some experience to the line up which gives them one of the better line-ups in the league. Three of the teams four players that play consistently in terms of the amount of games played are rookies. If the organization can keep the these young players together, allowing them to grow together, my prediction about this team being one of the in best in a couple of season won't seem so far fetched.

       The Grizzlies are an exciting team to watch. Most of their games are won in the 4th quarter. O.J. Mayo is becoming a clutch player. Randolph's ability to rack up rebounding numbers particular on the offensive end is a treat to watch especially when he is barely getting off the ground. Gay is a regular on Sportcenter's Top 10 with his array of dunks. Gasol is becoming one of the better centers in the entire NBA. If you ever get the chance, watch this team play!

        I understand some might think I'm way off with my prediction but look at the list this team have already beaten. The Mavs, the Spurs, the Cavaliers, the Suns twice, the Trailblazers and the Nuggets. This team is good and as most good, young teams do, they are only going to get better.

    <intro>
Quick look at things happening around the NBA....

East Meets West

Tonight, the best record in the East hosts the best record in the West. The Cavaliers and Lakers meet in a rematch of a Christmas Day game in Los Angeles where the Cavs won 102-87. The L.A. fans flooded the floor with foam fingers. This time the scene switches to Cleveland. Nike hopes that Kobe Bryant and LeBron James will have a performance that is "puppet worthy".

Celtics Continue to Struggle

If you read my articles, you know I am a Boston fan. And in my post "Feliz Navidad", a win for the Celtics on Christmas was on my Christmas List. I guess I forgot to include that I would hope they would continue to win. The Celts solved the Magic, winning 86-77. But then they lost the last three games in 2009, and after last night's loss in Detroit, the Celtics again have lost three in a row. The bright side? Kevin Garnett should return soon from injury.

Today's Number....25

Marcus Camby dominated the boards for the Clippers with 25 rebounds to beat the Bulls.

The Spurs scored 25 points in a row, and still could not figure out the Jazz, losing 105-98.

Oklahoma City's next win will be number 25, they already have more wins than last year.

The Shooting Guard: Gilbert Arenas

The Washington Wizards are wandering through a lost season, but in a one point loss to Dallas last night, the hosts on D.C. Sports radio were wishing Arenas was not suspended and would have been available for a final shot. Of course, Arenas is out because he likes to shoot a little too much. While Arenas was in court for gun charges last Friday, I received some personal news that a good friend and former band member sits in jail unable to post a low bail. (If you are interested in the band, you can see them here) We have a justice system where innocent until proven guilty is a fairy tale, and the idea that the punishment will fit the crime is a pipe dream. Donte Stallworth killed a man in a DUI case, and served less than a month. Plaxico Burress shoots himself and gets 2 years. I also wonder who read the victim statement in that sentencing? Did Burress read his own statement "Yo man, why did you shoot me??" 6 months for shooting yourself is more than enough. No justice....

Weak in the Middle

If the season ended today, the season would end three months early. But the Bulls would make the playoffs with a record of 18-22. The Houston Rockets would miss the playoffs with a record of 23-18. The Rockets would be 5th in the East, the Bulls would be 13th in the West. Other teams in the "West" that would not make the playoffs include New Orleans and Memphis. Why not just seed the teams 1-16 and put the best teams in the playoffs?

Keeping an eye on the Nets

3-38 at the halfway point. 6-76 would break the 76ers worst record of 9-73 (1972-'73)
</intro>

    <intro>
Hey, did you hear? The NBA is going to have competition soon. A new league is forming. The AABA which probably means Another Ass Backwards Association is forming, but there is a catch; to be part of this league you got to be white.

Yep, and not just any white person, you got to be pure born and breed made of good old American stock. So if you were born in Germany, Italy, if you are black, Mexican, Asian, sorry you aren’t allowed in this league.

This league is for pure white Americans. I would be angry at this if it wasn’t so funny. When you read about this “commissioner” Don “Moose” Lewis, you have to laugh. He wants you to put up 10 grand for your own white franchise in your Southern city. Does this not sound like a scam to you?

Does this sound like just a white supremacist just trying to get paid? Where do you draft your players at the five and dime up the street? How much will these players get paid? Who are the coaches? Where will the teams play?

Has Mr. Lewis not noticed that a lot of the cities he wants to play in like Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, and Mobile are all RUN by black mayors? Can you see the presentation to any of these mayors?

“Um, we’d like to start an all white basketball league in your city.” “We know racial discrimination is illegal, but we don’t hate you people, we just don’t want to play with you.”

“Please give us a chance. You already run the NFL, NBA, and hell even golf, just let us have this one thing that is strictly for pure white Americans like me."

If I was one of these mayors, I would hit the floor with laughter before I would have his ass dragged out of my office. The Mooses’ reasoning for all of this is bringing fundamentals back into basketball instead of as he puts it “street ball”. In other words, a bunch of lay ups and jump shots; that should be fun to watch.

You know what makes the NBA great? It’s how they helped evolve the game. The three-point line, good defense, and especially dunks, is what makes the NBA fun to watch.

If you want to watch a bunch of lay ups and jump shots, watch women’s basketball, but even that sport is evolving more. I got news for Mr. Lewis; no one is going to pay that much money to watch a boring game with a bunch of no-names in a run down arena in the middle of no where.

Most Southerners (where he wants to put his teams) aren’t even into to basketball unless you are in Kentucky and even up there; they want quality play not a bunch of hacks and wanntabes.

The NBA incorporates the best of the best no matter where you come from or what you look like, a concept Mr. Lewis has apparently had forgotten. Most players even if they are white, want to play against the best and oh yea, they want to get PAID too.

Mr. Lewis might think he can start a league for all white players, but in the end the most important "color" in this discussion will be the color green.
</intro>
