181 6588 Can the news get any worse for Tiger Woods?  The New York Times has <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/15/sports/15doctor.html?_r=1&ref=sports">reported</a> that a Canadian doctor that has treated Woods, swimmer Dana Torres, and NFL players is suspected of providing athletes with performance-enhancing drugs.   Dr. Anthony Galea was found with human growth hormone and Actovegin, a drug extracted from calf's blood, in his bag at the U.S./Canada border in late September. He was arrested Oct. 15 in Toronto by Canadian police.   By now everyone and their 90-year-old grandma is aware of the "extracurricular" antics of Woods over the years that came to life Nov. 27. His personal life has been completely trashed and beaten to a pulp. Women are looking at him the same way PETA looks at Mike Vick.   He has lost some sponsors, but not the top dogs like Nike and Gatorade, so while the short-term effects of the infidelity mess are brutal, long-term it won't be a problem (at least that's what Nike CEO Phil Knight believes).   The long-term issue that players of any sport can't shed in this millennium is getting linked to performance-enhancing drugs. Countless baseball players' legacies have forever been tainted. The lasting image of players like Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire is needles and lies. Same with cyclist Floyd Landis and track stars Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery, among other Olympians.   We became accustomed to being skeptical of every outstanding performance in almost every sport—but not golf.   Never had there even been a whisper of Woods taking PEDs. He has steamrolled the best players in the world for over 13 years now and never caught a whiff of fishiness from the fans or the PGA.   Dr. Galea said Woods was referred to him by the golfer’s agents, who were trying to speed up the pace of his rehabilitation after knee surgery in June 2008. The doctor said he flew to Orlando, Fla., at least four times to give Woods the platelet therapy at his home.   While the reports are nothing but allegations, the damage has been done. Golf is now going to be thrown under the microscope as we lose confidence in the truthfulness of yet another sport.   Woods is taking an "indefinite leave" from golf, and the speculation on his return is all over the board. He wanted to let the affair saga blow over. The best way to do that requires one to vanish and let the awful American memory forget.   But the speculation of using PEDs will not go away once he returns to the links. The questions he will be answering will turn from his off the course "game" to his on the course performance enhancements.   This is getting ugly for Woods and the PGA. 106 6554 “Just Do It” (Nike); “The Best a Man Can Get” (Gillette); “Is It In You” (Gatorade).  These are just some of the company advertising slogans associated with Tiger Woods’ endorsements.  Obviously these slogans have a different meaning today than they did three weeks ago. <meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <meta content="Word.Document" name="ProgId" /> <meta content="Microsoft Word 9" name="Generator" /> <meta content="Microsoft Word 9" name="Originator" /> <link href="file:///C:/Users/Donna/AppData/Local/Temp/msoclip1/01/clip_filelist.xml" rel="File-List" /><style type="text/css">  </style> “Just Do It” (Nike); “The Best a Man Can Get” (Gillette); “Is It In You” (Gatorade).  These are just some of the company advertising slogans associated with Tiger Woods’ endorsements.  Obviously these slogans have a different meaning today than they did three weeks ago.  Now spoof slogans are popping up all over the internet – “Just Do Her”; “Is He In You”; the Gillette slogan can stay the same, aside from the fact that these women Tiger was sleeping with do not appear to be the best he could have gotten.  <o:p></o:p> It seems every hour I’m seeing a new text or email quoted on TV.  Things like how the other woman was his soul mate, how he wishes he had met her years ago, that he would leave his wife and kids for her, blah, blah, blah.  It sounds like standard horny guy BS to either get the girl or keep the girl.  Now there are supposedly nude photos and more emails and texts, what other bomb will be dropped next?  A sex video?  A kid or a pregnancy?  Evidence of hush money being paid to these women?   <o:p></o:p> What really got me fired up today was an article I read where the author commended Tiger for making his family and personal life a priority right now.  Huh?  Isn’t that how it should ALWAYS be?  That's like commending someone for not being a mass murderer - you don't do what you know is wrong...and you don't get a pat on the back for not doing what’s wrong.  Do you commend Dad's for paying child support?  No, they’re supposed to and they should be doing that.  <o:p></o:p> I don’t know how Tiger’s going to approach his “comeback” from this, or when.  It could be the popular sex addict excuse, or maybe it’ll be the loss of his father started him down this path excuse.  But unfortunately, whatever road he takes when he finally decides to come out of hiding, it will have no impact on his future earnings.  In fact, his tournament appearance fees will skyrocket.  He’ll get millions for appearing on Opera or Dr. Phil and crying for America so we can begin our forgiveness of him.  Sure he’ll take a big hit financially with the loss of sponsorships, but it’s like me losing $20.  He has so much money that really the only thing he cares about right now is his image.  He doesn’t care about making it up to his wife Elin – unless that gets him our forgiveness quicker.   <o:p></o:p> Speaking of Elin, if she stays with him after this fiasco I will have no respect for her.  I’ll see her as a big money grubbing, star struck bimbo just like the women he’s had his affairs with.  In my mind it's impossible for her to have trust, faith, honesty and love after something like this happens.  Forgiving him for one woman if he shows he’s truly sorry and admits his mistake I can see, but forgiving him for a dozen?  That’s just unrealistic.  I’ll have more respect for Elin if she does the right thing and leaves his phony, hypocritical ass.  But regardless of whether she stays with him or not, my main concern is for the children.  Thankfully they are both too young to know what is going on and this story will be long dead by the time they are old enough to understand.   <o:p></o:p> As for Tiger, he'll be just fine by this time next year.  He'll have a bunch of million dollar endorsements back and people will be giving him standing ovations at every tournament he attends.  I just hope it was worth his marriage and being a part-time dad to his kids.  I guess now we know the real reason he’s been such a private person.  Hey Tiger, here’s an idea, change your name to get away from all the negativity surrounding it now.  How about calling yourself “Lion” (lying) or “Cheetah” (cheater)?  Hey, what’s the difference between Tiger Woods and Santa Claus?  Santa always stops after three Ho’s.  Yeah, I got a million of ‘em.  <o:p></o:p> 71.114.77.82

56 6478  News Item: Tiger is in the news.  I'm sure you're shocked that Tiger continues to dominate Sports Radio, TMZ, and other entertainment news.  Tiger is on the top 10 on Letterman, or a parody with Kenan Thompson on SNL.  OK maybe not shocked.  As for me, I am a bit annoyed.    I'm not a huge golf fan, but I do care about Tiger the golfer.  I think they should rename the Grand Slam (all four titles in one calendar year, which has not been done) the Tiger Slam, since he was the only one to hold all four at one time.  Tiger is chasing Jack Nicklaus, the "Golden Bear", for the record for the most major championships.  I guess I root for Tiger because I believe records are made to be broken.  What fun is it if they are untouchable?  Nobody will get Cy Young's record for number of wins.  Impossible.  What fun is that?  I never saw Cy Young.    On the other hand, I could care less about Tiger in his personal life.  I remember a story about Babe Ruth on a train chasing a woman, both of them half naked.  There were reporters on the train, playing cards.  As Ruth passed them, one said "good thing none of us saw that or we would have to report it."  Thomas Jefferson was reported to have a child out of wedlock, possibly with a slave.  It did not have the same effect Bill Clinton did with his sex scandal.  Why do we care?    Some say it is because Tiger built up his image.  And Sprite would tell you "image is everything".  Was Tiger in a Sprite ad once?  I did hear that Gatorade is dropping Tiger, surely others will follow.  Who will Gatorade use to replace Tiger, and how long will it take until the public and media fight to tear the new idol down.  Beware of the skeletons.  The ones in the closet.    Personally, I think we ought to have better things to worry about. 76.97.188.228

But I will use those two items in the same sentence. Charles Barkley was a prophet during his 1993 Nike commercial when he said:  “ I am not a role model. I am not paid to be a role model. I am paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court. Parents should be role models. Just because I dunk a basketball, doesn’t mean I should raise your kids.”                                                                                                          -     Charles Barkley<o:p></o:p>   <o:p></o:p>  <o:p></o:p>  This commercial was very controversial at the time because a lot of people truly believed that athletes should be role models. The thinking was that kids watch sports and worship athletes, so in turn, athletes should always be aware of their actions and “think about the kids.”   But I believe what Sir Charles said was correct, athletes are not role models. Over the years, we have seen many revered athletes get themselves into some pretty sticky and embarrassing situations.   For example, Kobe Bryant in Colorado, Roger Clemens doing steroids, and recently Ben Roethlisberger in Lake Tahoe. But I think the final nail in the coffin to the “Athletes are Role Models” argument came a couple of weeks ago when Tiger Woods got into a whole lot of trouble. I don’t want to get into the whole situation, but the spark notes version is Elin Nordegren’s (Tiger’s Wife) bag isn’t the only bag that Tiger Woods has put his driver into.   Tiger Woods was the last uber-duper popular athlete who seemed “perfect”; far and away the best in his field, wealthy one hundred times over and married to a Swedish supermodel. Like I said, perfect. But now these revealed indiscretions show a man who was loved and admired by many, but not faithful towards the one person who loved and admired him the most. For as embarrassing as this situation is for Tiger professionally and personally, and for as much grief this is going to cause his friends, family, and fellow golfers. I’m glad it happened.    Now before everybody screams about how insensitive I am, I will say the following. I am in no way glad about the pain and suffering Tiger’s family will go through in the coming months. I am in no way defending what Tiger did. Lastly, I am not glad about all the crap that Tiger will have to put up with from the global media. However, what I’m glad about is that the argument of “Athletes Are Role Models” is finally dead. How can it not be? One of the most popular athletes in the world, a man who was held in such high regard for his professional accomplishments and personal dedication, is an adulterer. A man, whose physical talents are off the charts, cannot do one of the things that defines a man, being a good husband. I believe that this finally says to society as a whole, professional athletes are not good role models. I’ve always said that athletes do not make good role models. They live entirely different lives from the rest of us, lives that we would never be able to comprehend if laid out in front of us. And the worse thing about athletes that prevent them from being role models, they’re people. People are flawed.    What makes professional athletes different from the rest of us? They make millions of dollars, they have physical abilities that the normal person can only dream about, and they play on television. But do you know what makes them the same as us regular folk. They’re people. That’s what we forget as a society sometimes. Athletes are people too. People have flaws. Just because professional athletes can dunk a basketball, throw 90+ miles an hour, catch a football one-handed, or sink a 40 foot putt; it doesn’t make them perfect. In this society, we glorify sports to the maximum. When athletes are good at what they do, we somehow assume that because the athlete is successful, that he or she is a good person. However, if it comes out that the athlete is not a good person, that can be crushing for any child who idolizes that athlete. Now I understand that because athletes make millions of dollars and are very popular, people expect athletes to take responsibility for their actions and be a community leader. And when they aren’t, people get angry. But in essence, what are athletes paid for? To perform on whatever court, field, rink, or stadium they’re playing in. That’s it. They’re performing a job. The community leader and responsibility stuff isn’t necessarily written into the contract. They don’t have to do these types of things. If you say that I’m wrong, look at somebody like Lakers forward Ron Artest. In his career he has caused the biggest fight in the NBA history, gone onto Jimmy Kimmel live only in his boxers, arrived to a playoff game only in his underwear, and admitted to drinking at halftime of his games. He still has a job. Why? Because he performs on the court, that’s it. If he were a poor to mediocre player, he would have been gone long ago. Do you want to instill into your child that if he or she becomes an athlete, and they’re rich and talented, they don’t have to worry about their conduct on or off the court? If you want another example, let’s take LeBron James. What is one thing that every parent teaches their child when they start playing sports; sportsmanship. Win or lose, congratulate the other team. At the end of every series in the NBA, the players from each team meet at center court and shake hands to show good sportsmanship. When the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Orlando Magic in game six of last year’s Eastern Conference Semifinals, LeBron left the court without shaking anybody’s hand from the Magic. Do you want to teach your child that just because you’re one of the best players in the sport you’re participating in, that it makes you better than shaking hands to show good sportsmanship? I didn’t think so. I think it’s better for children as a whole if their role model was someone out of the public eye. So they are not susceptible to their role model being scrutinized in the media. A role model is somebody you’re supposed to look up to; hearing otherwise could be crushing for a child. In no other place can a child be susceptible to hearing otherwise than in the world of sports.    I touched on this briefly, but another reason why athletes are not good role models is that you can’t relate to them. When I say relate to them, I mean in regards to their lifestyle. Being a role model to someone means people are able to relate to you. How can kids relate to a person who has millions of dollars, lives in a mansion, and can basically do whatever the hell they want? Kids can’t relate to that. Kids need to be able to relate to someone who closer to their level financially and geographically. Being a role model to someone also means that you have to be at a close enough distance to have an effect on a child’s life. Kids cannot be affected enough in a positive manner through commercials and post-game interviews. Kids also can’t call they’re favorite athlete at a moment’s notice when they have a problem going on in their life. They’re needs to be a person who the child can talk to and can confide in at the drop of a hat. Kids can’t go, “I’m having a problem with my math homework, I’m gonna call LeBron!! Or “This girl likes me at school, I’m gonna go call Kobe!! (DON’T DO THAT KID!! YOU MIGHT REGRET IT!! KNOW A GOOD LAWYER?)    I’m not trying to be preachy with my opinions, but I’ve always hated the fact that people expect athletes to be role models. Then when they don’t act as one, the parents blame the athlete for crushing the hopes and dreams of children who idolize them. Stop it. The athletes didn’t sign up to be role models. It’s the parent’s responsibility for knowing whom their children idolize and influencing who they look up to. Athletes are just like everybody else, they’re trying to be successful and get paid. Also, in no way am I saying that kids shouldn’t like athletes. Kids can like athletes. Kids can love athletes. Sports are a great release from the happenings of everyday life. Kids should appreciate athletes for their enormous talents, physical size, and charismatic personalities. 80 6462  As everyone in the world already knows, there is trouble in Paradise for the world’s number one golfer, Tiger Woods. What started out as a simple vehicle crash into a fire hydrant at 2:30 almost two weeks ago has quickly escalated into something of a much more serious nature. While not really totally revealing the actions in question, Wood has stated that he has let his family down and that he regrets his transgressions with all of his heart. He also goes on to state that he will make a concerted effort to be the best father and husband that he can be for his family. Along with that he has asked that the media enable his family to deal with the matter privately.  <div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">In the opinion of some, superstardom means giving up your right to privacy, Does this sound like a fair trade? The consensus is that because Tiger Woods has been so successful over the year s and has endorsed numerous products that the right to privacy kind of went by the wayside in the process. However, attaining celebrity status does not make an individual fair game with regards to the media. Everyone tends to make a big deal when athletes, entertainers, etc choose not to offer up every part of their life for media consumption. While the transgressions that Tiger Woods made reference to were not fully disclosed, everyone feels the need to rush to judgment about the decisions he has made. What some of us seem to forget is that we all make mistakes and that we all have said and done things that we wish we could take back. Now reporters are stating that his squeaky clean image was all a façade and how he could stand to lose a lot of endorsements depending on how all of the events play out going forward. I have said it before and will say so again, we need to stop putting celebrities on a pedestal and treating them like gods. They never ask us to do this or to be looked upon as role models for our children. Yet too often, this is exactly what happens. Then when that celebrity makes a mistake, everything changes and now they are viewed as a bad person or a hypocrite. The fact of the matter is that Tiger Woods is a person just like the rest of us. I’m sure this is not the first mistake he has ever made in his life and it will not be his last. Before any of us rushes to judgment on the events thus far let’s be sure to think about how we would feel if something we were regretful of was revealed to the world. Would we want everyone to weigh in on something we are already sorry for? The answer is, probably not. So before adding our two cents in saying that he deserves whatever bad things there may be to come, let’s remember that let he who without sin cast the first stone. My first reaction to all of this is that I hope the wife divorces him and gets a Billion or so out of him.  Then I remember that she was nothing but a nanny when Tiger married her.  She didn't earn any of that money he made by being a great golfer and an even greater darling of the media.  Let's face it, he made way more money in endorsements than he ever did in golf.  So now that his image has been irrevocably damaged, will he still get all those endorsement dollars?  He may lose a few endorsements, but not the big ones.  Nike uses third-world sweatshops filled with children.  Do you really think they care if Tiger is a "Swinger"?  Not likely.  I'm betting that Elin hires her own high-priced scumbag divorce lawyer and takes half of everything he's got.  That settlement should break the previous record set by Michael Jordan's ex-wife.  Elin certain has Tiger by the tail on this one.  I'm sure we'll soon start hearing about paternity suits and all sorts of other sordid affairs as Tiger's PR team tries in vain to keep a lid on the situation.  I don't know if this will have any effect on his career and I don't care.  Golf isn't a real sport anyway.  I'm just happy that the media will actually have to stop kissing his ass all the time.  It has gotten even more pathetic than John Madden was when he talked about Brett Favre.  The curtain has been pulled back on yet another athlete who turned out to be a complete hypocrite.  I for one couldn't be more amused. Tiger first of all is a man and second, he is an athlete which pretty much says it all. I’ve heard excuses all day about why we should leave him alone and this is a private matter between him and his wife. </div> <div> </div> <div>Tiger made this a public issue when he had an accident trying to get away from his wife at 2:30 in the morning and wrecked his car. Then all hell broke loose and we found out that this Tiger had his tail out so to speak. </div> <div> </div> <div>What bothers me about all of this, is most of the men out there trying to defend the guy. Look, I love Tiger as much as anyone because he brought a whole new generation into golf, but what he did was wrong. </div> <div> </div> <div>I was listening to Scott Van Pelt and his radio partner trying to say leave the man alone and basically saying that what man could resist temptation when you have a bunch of hot women around. 107 6322 There have been a lot of stories in the news since Tiger Woods crashed his Cadillac Escalade into a tree and a fire hydrant last week, but now the plot has thickened as stories of infidelity, a marital confrontation, a cocktail waitress, and the fact that Tiger is not the perfect human being and role model that so many thought that he was.  Since the accident, which from Tiger Woods and his family has been very hush hush as to what or why the accident actually happened in the first place, a story has surfaced that a Los Angeles cocktail waitress has claimed that she has been involved in a affair with Tiger for the past two and half years. <o:p> </o:p> Many questions have come up about why Tiger was leaving his home at 2:30 in the morning on the day of the accident. <o:p> </o:p> Was he drunk? <o:p> </o:p> No, that has been ruled out as tests showed no signs of alcohol or drugs in Tigers system at the time of the accident. <o:p> </o:p> Speculation that he might have been going for an early morning workout or to work on his game have surfaced as well. However, it would still be at least 3-4 hours before daylight, unless he knows of a 24 hour driving range in the area, which is highly unlikely. <o:p> </o:p> There was also news that his wife Elin used a golf club and smashed his window in order to get him out of the car after the accident. <o:p> </o:p> Hmmm, my only question since the release of the affair story is if she smashed the window after the accident or actually caused the accident because she smashed the window as he was pulling out of the driveway after a heated argument with Tiger concerning the affair. <o:p> </o:p> Oh sure, people might say that this cocktail waitress is just a gold digger and claiming the affair to gain publicity and money, but the circumstances are just too convincing. <o:p> </o:p> First of all, it all started last Wednesday when the National Enquirer alleged that a woman from <st1:state w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">New York</st1:place></st1:state> named Rachel Uchitel had been involved with Tiger. Then, two days later the accident happened. <o:p> </o:p> In addition, once this broke, on Tuesday, cocktail waitress Jamiee Grubbs leaked out her story to US Weekly and even provided a recorded voice mail message of Tiger asking her to remove her name from her phone and only put in the number because his wife had gone through his cell phone. She also claims to have proof with over 300 text messages which she has saved. <o:p> </o:p> Sure anybody could claim that, but listen for yourself. Here is a link to the actual message. However, he did not deny the affairs and from his own words, it seems to me to be somewhat of admittance.   “I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart,” he said. “I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves,” Tiger said. “For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.” <o:p> </o:p> If you ask me, Tiger strayed, the news broke, his wife questioned him about it and a fierce discussion ensued. She checked his cell phone, causing Tiger to leave the voice mail message, they argued, and Tiger decided to leave at 2:30 in the morning to get away from it. His wife Erin ran out of the house with one of his golf clubs and smashed in his window as he was leaving causing him to crash into the fire hydrant and his neighbor’s tree. <o:p> </o:p> Now granted, this is just my speculation, and not an actual fact. However, there is really no other way to explain it.
