<intro>
I Would personally like to congratulate B-Dub and the Cleveland Steamers on their victory over my team, DaBares, in the 2009 PPFFL Super Bowl I.

The Steamers steamrolled over the DaBares 121-82 in a game that was never close.

This was just what the world needed, another Champion from the city of brotherly love with the best fans in the world, {total sarcasm}, Philadelphia.

The Dubster told us all from the very beginning of the season that he was going to win this thing, and low and behold, he did. Where is my barf bag?

The Steamers got good performances from numerous players in the game. Quarterback Donavan McNabb, whom was originally owned and drafted by DaBares, came through with 322 passing yards and 3 TD’s and 28 points.

The Browns Jerome Harrison came through with 148 rushing yards and 1 TD for 18 points. Receiver Anquan Bolden came through with 11 points with 116 yards.

Receiver Steve Smith of the Giants came through with 12 points and TE Jason Witten had 11. The 49ers DST came through big against the lowly Lions with a whopping 24 pints as well just to add insult to injury to DaBares.

As for my DaBares, nothing could have saved me. None of my reserves would have made up the difference so it was a lost cause from the first kickoff.

Quarterback Matt Ryan had a stellar 28 points with 250 passing yards and 3 TD’s to match the Steamers McNabb. Running back Marion Barber had 15 points with 63 rushing yards, 30 receiving yards and a TD. Receiver Larry Fitzgerald pulled in 10 points with 48 yards and a TD and Robert Meacham pulled down 12 points with 66 receiving yards and a TD.

Overall, it was a great season and I look forward to another season next year. Hopefully we will have every owner that is passionate and working his team every week unlike some of the owners this season which I will not call out by name at this time. You know who you are and you will not be invited back next season.

To those of you who were passionate and working your teams every week, great job! It made for an enjoyable and competitive season.

Overall, I think that the inaugural PPFFL season was a success and fun was had by all. The only negative was that the biggest trash talker, loud mouth, and “I am always right” B-Dub won it all as he so humbly predicted that he would all season.

Don’t you just hate it when the team that everyone loves to hate wins it all?

Oh well, such is life, Congrats once again goes out to the Cleveland Steamers, who in my humbled opinion had the perfect team name to go along with the owners personality.

    <intro>
And then there were two.

Now that all of the pretenders are gone, the only two teams standing are B-Dub's Cleveland Steamers (10-5) and Nolan Thomas' DaBares (9-5-1). One of these teams will walk away from the Playerpress Fantasy Football League Fantasy Bowl I with the title and the nice plaque. *cough, cough, Steamers, cough, cough*

The two teams met in week 11 with DaBares coming out on top by a score of 127-93. Now let's take a look deep inside the matchup and see why the Steamers are going to win. I mean, see who is going to win.

Quarterback

Steamers have Donovan McNabb, who was dropped by DaBares early in the season. McNabb faces a tough Broncos defense that only lets up 178 passing yards per game, along with a mere 15 TD passes. Look for McNabb to use his speedy weapons, like DeSean Jackson to score a few long TD passes against the old Broncos secondary.

DaBares have Matt Ryan, who is just coming back from a toe injury that cost him wo games. Ryan faces a depleted Bills D that lost top cover CB Terrence McGee to the IR with a shoulder injury this week. The only thing stopping Ryan from a nice game would be the Falcons leaning heavily on the running game.

Running Back

Steamers have Jamaal Charles "In Charge" at the Bengals and he has been lights out since the release of Larry Johnson. He has a TD in six straight games and last week had the best game of his young career, with 154 yards on 25 carries against the Browns. He won't do that much, but he's a lock for over 20 carries, which is all you can ask for in your fantasy RB. Then they have "Some People Call Me" Maurice Jones-Drew against a stingy Patriots D. The Pats have only given up 3 rushing TDs all season, but they have some injury problems in their front seven. Look for MJD to put up some nice numbers.

DaBares look to be starting Marion Barber against the Redskins, even though he has rushed for over 70 yards only once in his last 10 games. He'll also lose carries to Felix Jones. They will also use Laurence "My" Maroney "Has a First Name" against the Jaguars. The Jags have been among the best run defenses in the league in the 2nd half, but Maroney is the Pats goal line back, with 8 TDs in the last 8 games. None of them from more than 4 yards out. He'll lose a few carries to Oscar Meyer though.

Wide Receiver

Steamers have Anquan Boldin facing a Rams D that he dominates regularly. He had 8 receptions for 103 yards and a TD against them earlier this season. And with Larry Fitzgerald hobbling with a knee injury, I have just two word for Boldin: Cha-Ching! Carolina's Steve Smith, who isn't even the best Steve Smith in the NFL anymore, faces the better Steve Smith's Giants. Luckily for this Steve Smith, the Gaints pass defense sucks. Since week 8 they've given up the 4th most TDs to WRs in the NFL. And finally they have Brandon "Marshall, Marshall" Marshall, who hopes to not get hit in the nose with the football against the Eagles. He'll be covered by CB Asante Samuel, who gambles for INTs and couldn't tackle Florence Henderson, so he's good for at least one long TD.

DaBares have the injured Larry Fitzgerald against the Rams, so even though it's a good matchup it remains to be seen how healthy he is. Robert Meachem has had a few down weeks, but he scored twice against this week's opponent, the Bucs, earlier this season. With shutdown CB Aquib Talib covering Marques Colston, look for Meachum to have a big day. And finally "I Can See for" Miles Austin won't get fooled again by the Redskins pass defense like he was earlier in the year, when he was held to 4 catches for 47 yards.

Tight End

The Steamers have Cowboy scum, Jason Witten against the Redskins. Witten has been a major disappointment with between 36 & 53 yards receiving in weeks 3 through 15. He has also not scored a TD since week 3. I'm not expecting much this week against the Redskins D. Just another reason to hate the Cowboys.

DaBares have Fred Davis against a Cowboys D that held him to 24 yards in week 11. Even though Davis has 5 TDs in his last 4 games, I don't expect much from him this week.

Kicker

They're kickers, so I'm not going to waste my time analyzing them.

Defense

Steamers have the 49ers at home against the Lions. Yes, they were just picked up specifically for this matchup. If the league rules allow it, you would be stupid not to take advantage of it. Any defense is good against the Lions, with Culpepper at QB.

DeBares have the Titans D hosting the Chargers. I know our scoring gives defenses way too many points, but the Titans might get negative points now that they just lost LBs Keith Bullock and David Thornton for the season.

So there you have it. A detailed analysis of the most important fantasy football game on the planet this weekend. Oh who am I kidding, this is the most important fantasy football game in history. Did I mention the winner gets a cool plaque. And nothing has been confirmed, but I've heard rumors that PlayerPress might also be throwing in a foursome to the Playboy golf outing that is prominently advertised on the website. Hey, all those rumors about Tiger turned out to be true, so maybe this one will come true as well. I can dream can't I?

As for a prediction, I'm a bit biased since I am the owner / GM / Coach of the Cleveland Steamers. I certainly think I have the best team in the league, but I did lose to Nolan's team during the regular season. Unfortunately for DaBares, almost all of the matchups favor the Cleveland Steamers. For those of you looking to put some money down on the game, I'm installing the Steamers as 20 point favorites to win the game and the Playerpress Fantasy Football League.

    <intro>
After a strenuous season of Fantasy Football, we have two who have risen above the rest and reached the apex. The winners of their respective leagues are none other than Bob “B-Dub” Whalon and Nolan “Get your picks in already” Thomas. He has certainly proven himself, most recently with his romp of Benn double “N” Hodapp. In the end, if you recall (or if anyone cares to watch the CBS series) Natalie stayed quiet and came out on top much to Russell’s chagrin.

It is ironic that the Cleveland Steamers (144) and the Philly Fans Suck (101) had a similar spread to the Monday night football game, while Da Bears (101)carried Jason Campbell (why, I do not know), and Bayside Tigers (97) had Eli Manning bringing this matchup down to the wire.

Cleveland Steamers (B-Dub) vs. Philly Fans Suck (Benn)

The Cleveland Steamers pulled out another well-rounded week with four players in the twenties and only one player under double digits. B-Dub got a solid start from Donovan McNabb with 20 points. Perhaps, Jason Campbell owner, Nolan, should not have dropped McNabb. Running backs Jamaal Charles and Maurice Jones-Drew also shone for the Steamers putting up 22 and 26 respectively. B-Dub, though, had a Philadelphia great, Michael Vick, moment when he decided to play the Buffalo Bills defense who racked up a mere 10 points.

That is a moot point though, considering the only offense Benn got was from Aaron Rodgers. Without Rodgers, Benn would have put up a Bo Jackson-esque score of 58. In fact, besides Rodgers and the Cardinals defense, not one player on Benn’s team surmounted double digits. Gross.

DaBares (Nolan) vs. Bayside Tigers (Brian Kintz—possibly fictitious)

This matchup was a nail biter, except I have not had any nails since the Mets 2007 season. In the end Nolan squeaked out a victory in the first annual PPFFL. He did not have any extreme standouts, but solid performances all around. Miles Austin scored him 19, while Rashard Mendenhall cashed in 16. As expected Campbell put up a pitiful 12 points and my fallen Titans defense gave Nolan 11 points. Arguably Nolan’s best player, Larry Fitzgerald, only put up nine points. It will be interesting to see what happens next week when playoff teams start resting their star players in anticipation of the post season.

Regardless of who Nolan played at QB, his hard work and dedication paid off this season and has brought him to the finals. Bayside Tigers, like Philly Fans Suck, put up a solid number this week, but it was just not enough. “Brian Kintz” received 28 points from Eli Manning and 19 from Reggie Wayne. It was not a good week for defenses as the Chargers put up only six points. If the Tigers had played some of his bench players, he would have beaten Nolan by a hair.

Well, the first annual PPFFL is almost complete, but there have been a lot of great memories. I will be honest, I know much more about baseball, but I learned some valuable lessons from this league:

1.       Jay Cutler is terrible.

2. Teams can often reflect their owners. For instance my team took a paralleled turn as the Jets or Giants. B-Dub’s Philly team conquered all to everyone’s vexation, and Greg’s Texans should have been better than they were.

3. Why was Bo Jackson’s icon a pizza? This is not a lesson, but it is a common question—kind of like the Brian Kintz mystery.

4. Drafting Drew Brees with your first pick does not pay off despite his MVP like season.

5. Defenses that were good last year are probably not good anymore—cough Giants, Titans, Steelers.

6. Without question whoever you put on the bench will score more points than whoever you played.

7. You can promise twelve grown people a Plaque with their name on it, and they will fight until the death to receive such an honor. When I was fourteen I thought a necklace with my name on it would be cool. Where did that get me now??

Thanks everyone for a fun season, although I still consider myself the hard luck team. I am ready for Fantasy Baseball, anyone?
</intro>

As injuries mount and hot players are tuckering out, now is the time to recharge your roster. Mid-season is near with every game more vital to playoff positions. Here’s my picks for the week:

Todd Bertuzzi- (RW) Detroit Red Wings. Totaling the Detroit injuries, conjures up a loss of a team but many have stepped up to retain the tradition of the Red Wings. Betruzzi has Look for Bertuzzi to top scoring and PIMs in your league. If you want a Red Wing on your team, he’s a good bet for now.

James Neal (LW) Dallas Stars. Even though he’s been suspended for hits, he’s an asset for points. He’s 76% owned in Yahoo leagues so he may be difficult to obtain, but with 13 goals, 13 assists and 27 PIMs, he’s not a bad option. Just be prepared for a brawl in the near future to send him an NA activity for your league. He’ll kick butt for you, but have a back-up if he’s suspended.

Tomas Fleischmann (LW,RW) Washington Capitals. Ability to play in two roster spots, and being on a winning team is the right combination for this pick-up. He’s 30% owned in leagues, so grab him if you can.

    <intro>
Fantasy football has undoubtedly changed the landscape of professional football. Over the last few decades (and particularly with the rise of the internet), these alterations have grown seemingly exponentially. Millions of dollars and hours are spent on fantasy football, yet, as fans, we frequently have difficulties imagining how fantasy football affects the players. The superhero-like status that these men garner often makes this task more difficult, as we sometimes get so caught up in the game that we fail to realize that, unlike most games, this one is based on reality.It has really given fans and spectators a chance to get more involved in the game, which, in my opinion, draws a larger audience and a more dedicated fan base.

Raiders' CB Chris Johnson is having a Pro Bowl caliber season in '09.

Nowadays, most fans seem so quick to judge and critique everything NFL players do, both and an off the field, yet very seldom do we see the same amount of praise. Many often respond to this fact by claiming that, as fans, they have a right to criticize and even boo their team’s favorite players, and fantasy football, which has taken the level of fan involvement to an entirely unique level, has only perpetuated this notion. But is this truly the case? How do NFL players feel about fantasy football and the way it has altered fans’ involvement and attitudes?

For part three of my “Fantasy Impact” series, I spoke with Raiders’ cornerback Chris Johnson to answer this question and find out more about the rising star.

1. How familiar with fantasy football were you when you came into the NFL, and how familiar are you with it now?

When I first came to the league I thought that fantasy football only involved the offensive players on the team. I know now that is not the case. I still don’t know a great deal about it, but I do know that it is extremely popular and seems to be gaining popularity every year. I think it would be interesting to see how it would affect fantasy football if all of the defensive positions/players were incorporated into it.

2. Do you personally play fantasy football?

I have never played, but I’m considering getting into it next year.

3. Do any guys on the team play fantasy football? What is the feeling of the team and players in the NFL in general regarding fantasy football?

I know that there are guys in the league that are playing. I’m not sure really sure about the guys on the team. I’m sure some of them are into it, but it’s not discussed in the locker room.

4. How do you think fantasy football has changed the game?

5. Does the fame and notoriety that offensive players get, particularly from fantasy football, ever annoy you?

No, I understand the game. As cliché as it sounds, I’ve often been told that offense sells tickets, defense wins games, and I’m okay with that.

6. How does playing with perhaps the league’s best cornerback help you? What sort of things has Nnamdi taught you?

Playing opposite of a player like Nnamdi just helps me and makes me want to play that much harder and better because you know quarterbacks view him as one of the best. I want them to see us as a dangerous package.

7. Are you on Twitter? What do you think of players using Twitter? Did your coaches warn you against the dangers of using Twitter?

Yes, I am on Twitter. Fans can follow me on twitter with the username ChrisJohnson_37. I don’t see anything wrong with players being active on Twitter as long as they are responsible about it. I have several teammates and fans that are on Twitter and I think it is really a positive thing for both team and self-promotion. Like Chad (Ochocinco): I follow Chad and that guy cracks me up, and he creates buzz for the Bengals and the NFL in general.

8. Do you prefer to play man coverage or drop into a zone? What is your favorite zone coverage to play?

I prefer man coverage to zone because I can focus in on covering my man and I know it is just the two of us out there. I like the one on one situation.

9. How many different sorts of coverages do you have to learn? How much preparation goes into getting ready for each opponent?

Wow, there are so many! On any given week I can put in 12-16 hours a day to get ready for each opponent.

10. Is it true that at Louisville ’s Pro Day you ran a 4.18 second 40-yard dash? With such blazing speed, do you find it easier to squat on certain routes because you know you have the speed to recover?

Yes, I did. That was a really great running day for me. It’s really all about what the route is and how long it will take me to get where I need to be. Most of the time I can depend on my speed to get me where I need to be when I need to be there.

11. What was the first thing you purchased after signing your new 4-year deal?

My first purchase was a home for myself and my family right outside of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It felt great to buy a place where I grew up. My family and I really feel at home there.

12. Do you have any pre-game rituals? What is your favorite pre-game meal?

I pray before every game. I don’t have a favorite meal: I’ll eat whatever is going to give me the energy to perform.

13. Other than football, what else do you enjoy doing?

I always enjoy being with my family, watching movies or TV. I also enjoy playing video games. Madden is my favorite right now.

14. Anything you want to let your fans know, fantasy football-related or not?

I just want to say thank you to all my fans. I am at a really great place in my career right now, I love this game and I have so much love for all of my fans. Thank you all for your loyalty and sticking with me! Now send your boy to the Pro Bowl!

    <intro>
The PlayerPress Fantasy Football League regular season is over and now its time for the playoffs. Four teams were lucky enough, or in my case talented enough, to make the playoffs. The other teams will just have to sit back and wonder where it all went wrong. (Maybe it had something to do with half the owners not paying attention all year. Just a thought) But before we look ahead to the playoffs, let's look at how we got there.

DeBares (Nolan Thomas) 96 - MC Homer (Michael Cureton) 86

This was the only game that mattered last week in the entire league, since the other two division winners and the Wildcard team were already decided before the last week of the season. The winner got a ticket to the playoffs, while the loser got left out in the cold. I find it very ironic that this was the most important game of the week, since we don't know from week to week whether MC Homer loves fantasy football or hates it. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say he hates it this week after the bitter loss. I might muster up a bit of hate myself if my three WRs combined to score ZERO points like MC Homer's did. Breston (1), Murphy (0) and Moss (-1) were a non-factor. As a matter of fact, the only player who came up big for MC Homer was his Johnson. My West Coast sources tell me that the words "Johnson" and "came up big" have never used in the same sentence before when referring to MC Homer. No wonder he hates "fantasy".

DaBares rode Jason Campbell (22 points, really) and the Titans D (27, since our scoring is seriously messed up) to the victory. It was fitting that Nolan's worst player, Greg Olsen (1) is also his only Bear. No wonder he actually had a winning team. Thanks again for dropping McNabb. Pure genius right there.

Born A Brave (Daniel Doyle) 129 - Texans (Greg Shelley) 101

Would be wrong of me to point out that the Texans best players were all on their bench? No? OK, then I won't. At least they played a great defense in the Eagles. Born a Brave got huge games from Manning, Grant, Rice and Andre Johnson in the win. But all I keep thinking is, why the hell are the Braves in the West? The Texans are an expansion team so they get stuck anywhere, but the Braves should be in the East. Even baseball got that one right eventually. Maybe our Commissioner can get these details worked out next season. Of course, half of these owners won't be around next season anyway. Double D and G-Shell should be back though.

Hypnos_zz (Jason Coldiron) 116 - Bayside Tigers (Brian Kintz) 96

This is a joke right? Jason stopped paying attention to his team weeks ago and he somehow outscores nine other teams even with an inactive Devin Hester in his starting lineup? I don't know whether that's funny or sad. At the very least Jason's team name was very appropriate. He could have been asleep all season and we wouldn't have know the difference. Then we have the Curious Case of Brian Kintz. If a Playerpress writer has a fantasy football team but never posts any articles, does he even exist? To make matters worse, Bayside won the Eastern division over my team. There's nothing funny about that. I'm assuming we won't be seeing either of these guys in the league next season. Of course, we never saw them this season either so what's the difference.

Philly Fans Suck (Benn Hodapp) 89 - Flash Greyhounds (Todd Schmerler) 63

Yet another team with an owner of limited participation. Or maybe it just seemed that way as Flash rocketed towards the bottom of the league by losing their last 5 games. I haven't seen that kind of collapsing choke job since the NY Mets in 2009, or the Mets in 2008. Something tells me that Kerri wouldn't have come up with the same analogy.

Benn "Too Many Consonants" Hodapp names his team Philly Fans Suck then proceeds to have four Philly players on his team. Yeah, that makes sense Benn. I have no idea how this team wonn their last sevenn games of the seasonn. Maybe it's all those unnecessary consonantsss.

Sweatpants & Handguns (Kerri Senno) 67 - Bo Jackson's (Taver Chong) 48

How is it possible that a team can score 67 points and actually win a game? The answer is that you play Bo. Bo knows losing. Bo scored the fewest points of any team during the season and yet all I can think about is why the team is named Bo Jackson's (with an 's) and why their logo is a piece of pizza. Seriously, what's up with that? Maybe Taver Chong really is Tommy Chong's little brother, as I said earlier in the year.

Kerri's Sweatpants & Handguns team started off the season 5-1, then proceeded to lose 6 of their last 8 games. Since I already used the Mets analogy I'll just stay in New York and compare her team to the Giants, who haven't been a winning team since her namesake shot himself in the thigh. This has not been a good sports year for our Kerri.

Cleveland Steamers (B-Dub) 133 - Ridemcowgirl1 (Stacey "Bama" Mickles) 85

The score of this game was meaningless since Stacey and I decided to let the BCS decide which one of us would be declared the winner of the game. Since the Steamers scored more points during the season by running up the score on overmatched opponents and the Cleveland fanbase travels well, the "Committee" decided to declare the Steamers the winners. Since Stacey is the biggest defender of the BCS on the planet, her team's response was typically subdued.

Maybe that's because her team is filled with former SEC players, who aren't smart enough to know exactly what happened. I'm sure Stacey will have their parole officers explain it to them. Unfortunately with only 4 wins the team isn't even eligible for a minor Bowl game like the Tiger Wood's Ho Ho Ho Bowl, on Christmas Day in Vegas. Too bad, I hear the "Cheerleaders" are really something there.

So there you have it. The regular season is over and now the real season begins. Luckily the BCS isn't involved, so we'll get to settle this on the field....so to speak.

Hey Benn, is this "n" yours? Damn things are everywhere.

    <intro>
Fantasy Football is a phenomenon that in the last decade has taken the country by storm. It is very rare these days to not know a football fan who is not actively involved in at least one fantasy league.

Then you have the absolute fanatics who are involved in numerous leagues and spend every waning moment of their free time working their teams, adjusting their rosters, and wheeling and dealing on daily basis in order to gain supremacy in each of their respective fantasy leagues.

We all have our own little peculiarities in how we run and maintain our teams throughout the season. Some people load up their teams with players from their favorite pro teams. Which I always thought was a dumb move personally, but it works for some people. It works for those whose favorite teams this season happen to be the Colts, the Saints, or the Vikings anyway.

Some fantasy football team owners add and drop players every week, only to have Murphy’s Law take over and the dropped players outperform the recently added players. It never fails to happen for the most part. It must be the same Gods that make sure that whatever lane you change to in during a traffic jam is the lane that stops moving.

In addition, some fantasy football team owners stand by their players on their team from week to week, never changing players even when they lose so many games and they were wishing that their players would live up to their expectations. Then you also have the owners that without doubt, want to make a trade every week.

However, which ever type of fantasy football fan you may be, if you are still playing fantasy football in week 14, you should be either congratulated because you are in the playoffs in your league or it is the last week of the regular season and you are praying, scraping and clawing to get a victory this week in order to make the playoffs in your leagues. Either way, it is yet another week of football to psyche yourself up for, so just remember, do not give up and it is not over until the fat lady sings.

Of course for some of you, the fat lady is already howling out the notes and you are sitting in your favorite lounge chair with your head between your legs in embarrassment wondering how much slack you are going to have to put up with from the other team owners in your leagues.

Hey, think of the bright side, if the playoffs have not started yet in your league, you might just have one more week to gain a little pride and at the same time, knock someone else out of the playoffs. So take your head out of your butt, and adjust your roster so that you can at least have some bragging rights over the loud mouth who has been talking trash all season and gain a little ammo by knocking him out of the playoff picture.

For some of you though, the season has probably been over for a few weeks now and you probably feel like former Colts head coach Jim Mora Sr. standing at the podium uttering “Playoffs? Don’t talk about Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?” For those of you with no chance at your leagues playoffs and who remember this famous rant, I am sure you feel his pain.

However, I am sure that none of you who are in the playoffs or have a shot at this point will be displaying the same rant, considering that if you have made their league playoffs you are that much closer to winning their league’s Super Bowl, having bragging rights, and maybe even a certificate, plaque or even little bit of moolah for your pockets.

As wild as this season has been so far this season, I have actually made the playoffs in one of my leagues and if I win this week, I will be in the division winner and be in the playoffs in my other league.

Most leagues playoffs start this week, with the rest starting next week. It usually depends on how many teams, divisions, and how the playoff structure is set up. Either way, it is gut check time for some of us and R&R time for others who are out in the cold at this point.

I still wonder why fantasy football has become such a phenomenon or why I enjoy it so much.

Is it a further expression of my love for the game of football and the competition of it all, even though the outcome of the games have absolutely nothing at all to do with me?

Is it because I am trying to live out my own fantasy of being a professional sports owner through the statistical accomplishments of a professional football player?

Is it because it makes me feel as if I am somehow in charge and responsible for these performances and that I actually benefit from the players performances in some weird and consequential way?

Is it because it has gotten me more involved with the game and what other teams besides my favorite team seems to be doing on any given Sunday, Monday, and sometimes Thursdays?

You can always tell who the fantasy football owners are if you ever happen to be watching a game at a bar on Sundays. They are the ones moving from set to set, watching all the games with no apparent or particular team to be rooting for.

They are the ones who seem to be cheering and complaining for both teams in the same game who are playing each other. They cheer if one of their players on one team scores or makes a big play, but complain when on the next play someone from the same team scores a touchdown. It is evident that their player did not score. And then when the other team has the ball, they are doing the same thing.

A fantasy footballer is the one who when you ask them which team they are rooting for, they answer with “I don’t care, I just need so and so to score.”

Fantasy football is also a game that is filled with an abundance of mixed emotions.

Your favorite team just happens to playing a team in which one of your fantasy players is on. You want him to score, but deep inside it hurts to root for him, it really hurts. Your only hope is that your team has a big lead, like 3-4 touchdowns so your player will not hurt your team if he scores twice late in the game.

Or the defense special teams unit that you have on your fantasy team just happens to be playing your favorite team this week. Oh the misery of it all. Your head feels like it is going to explode.

Of course there are those that go to great extents to make sure this never happens, or at least as little as humanly possible by not activating those particular players that week and still hoping they win both the real game and their fantasy league game.

Of course this may come back to bite them in the ass if their real team loses their game and that particular player which they decided not to play has a big game and they lose their fantasy game too only because they had him on the bench that week.

However in the end, none of us can control what our fantasy teams will do each week. It is all luck of the draw. Sure you can study stats until your head turns blue, or you can study tendencies players have against certain teams and strategize all you want, but in the end, it is all a crap shoot.

But we love it anyway!

</intro>

    <intro>
     So ends lucky week 13 in the world renowned PPFFL. Only one week remains before the elitists square off in the playoffs, yet almost nothing has been decided. With Bayside's win (9-3-1), Brian is the only owner to lock up a playoff spot, the rest are up for grabs. If there was ever a week to make sure you have the best players available in your starting lineup, this is the one. Except for you Nolan, be sure to bench Fitzgerald (pretty please?).

In a competitive league such as ours, every owner needs to be congratulated, even the ones limping to the finish line. I am very impressed with the parity in the PPFFL, especially since my other two leagues have both an undefeated and winless team. I am happy to report that I am not the latter in either one. Enough about the leagues I am in with three year olds though, let's refocus on the one that really matters.

      All three division leaders tallied wins this week, Brian's Tigers, Benn's Sucky Philly Fans, and yours truly. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but of the three aforementioned division leaders, I am the only one that is undefeated in conference play. Does that mean I should be playing for the BCS National Championship? Maybe, maybe not, but I certainly would be more entertaining than Alabama running rough shot over Mack Brown and his chumps down in Texas, I can promise you that.

     Week 13 was a rematch of week two's slate of games. Let's get to the action, shall we? We shall.

DaBares 7-5-1 (Nolan Thomas) - 108

Bo Jackson's 4-9 (Taver Chong) - 93

     So what if these two teams make up half of the owners in the worst division in the PPFFL? The Central isn't a bad division, its just ultra competitive. Did anyone buy that? Yeah, me either.

     Nolan squeaked one out this week, setting up a showdown with division leader MC Hom--, er, myself, next week. Winner takes all. All being the opportunity to spend precious time setting lineups and perusing the waiver wire in this game I call a waste of time, but one that ya'll call fantasy football.

     Bo knows he needed more points this week to win. Bo also knows that had he is not making the playoffs and that's too bad because I'm a self-proclaimed Taver fan. Calvin Johnson nabbed 18 points and David Garrard did his thing, totaling 22. Those two, along with RBs Lynch (12) and Smith (15) couldn't make up for five starters with only single digit points.

     Nolan obviously forgot to play a real NFL QB this week, he may have been better off starting Tim Tebow, or Jason Campbell who rode the pine, but put up 30 points while doing it. No matter, 56 combined points from his wideouts and 30 between the Steelers defense and their RB Mendenhall, more than made up for the QB debacle.

Texans 7-6 (Greg Shelley) - 92

Flash Greyhounds 5-8 (Todd Schmerler) - 88

     Greg's Texans sat idly by, watching, hoping, and praying, for Mason Crosby to head into the locker room following the game Monday night with less than 13 points (he led 92-79 prior to kickoff). All the wishing and hoping and praying worked. Not only did Crosby not reach 13 points, but the Packers beat the Ravens, it was a win win situation. Tom Brady and the Eagles Def both posted scores of 22 and Welker pitched in with 16. It was a three headed monster for Greg this week, since his other six starters only totaled 32 points (less than a 6 point average).

     Todd's Greyhounds couldn't find the traction this week, essentially getting production from only two players. Philip Rivers and Chad Johnson (I refuse to call him by his stupid new name) accounted for 26 and 19 points respectively. Perhaps starting the Jets Def at Buffalo could have helped (19 pts) instead of the New York Football Giants 12 at home against the 'Boys. Eh, hindsight is always 20/20, but I've got to wonder about the decision to sit the J-E-T-S (you know the rest) Def against the inept Bills offense.

Bayside Tigers 9-3-1 (Brian Kintz) - 99

Ridemcowgirl1 4-9 (Stacey Mickles) - 87

     This matchup was over prior to Monday night's game, but Bayside had Derrick Mason playing anyway. Good thing he didn't need a big game from the Raven WR because his one point was essentially useless. Stacey would have needed Mason to fumble about six times and finish with negative yards from scrimmage to win the week. Instead Mason just didn't bother to show up.

     Ridem' got the usual 26 points from Drew Brees, Brandon Jacobs added 22 and crybaby Roy Williams had 18. Everyone else sucked, point blank. Especially the Steelers defense, who had the Oakland Raiders at home and gave up 27 points, 396 yards of offense, and failed to force a single turnover. Their five points were even more than they deserved for that sad effort. Hey, at least Ridem's bench outscored the Tigers, 35-33. Is there a consolation prize for that?

     With the win, Brian's Tigers lock up a playoff spot and Stacey's Cowgirls are going home. I'm sure Ms. Mickles doesn't mind too much. She'll now have more time to write about how the BCS is the greatest thing since sliced bread and how Alabama will kill Texas on January 7th. She is 100% right about the Rolling of the Tide in Pasadena though. If it ends up less than a 21 point game I'll be shocked.

Cleveland Steamers 8-5 (Bob Whalon) - 118

Hypnos_zz 4-9 (Jason Coldiron) - 72

     BEATDOWN OF THE WEEK!!! My boy B-Dub ended his two game skid with authority. Two players had 20+ points and four others had 14+. Even Cleveland's five reserves totaled 50 points. Poor Hypnos' had five players who couldn't even score half of ten points. It's not all bad though, Hypnos beat the Steamers in week two 146-78. Revenge really is a dish best served cold, isn't it Bobby?

Philly Fans Suck 9-4 (Benn Hodapp) - 115

Born A Brave 6-6-1 (Daniel Doyle) - 73

     Going into Monday night, Daniel had a five point edge, 65-60, but Ray Rice (4) obviously missed the Green Bay exit on the way to the stadium, severly hampering Born's playoff hopes two weeks from now. Andre Johnson (15) and Peyton Manning (16) were the only two players to reach double digits for the Timid's. Maybe fantasy baseball is 'Braves thing. Jonathan Stewart (18), who enjoyed the festivities this week from the sidelines for Born A Brave, had more than double the combined points of starters Ryan Grant (4) and Ray Rice (4), ouch.

     Philly Fans REALLY Sucked this week, thanks the Packers on Monday night. Aaron Rodgers (27), Mr. Driver (7), and the Def (21) all pitched in to make this blowout come to fruition. Santonio Holmes dropped a 20 spot and Mr. Hodapp's kicker, Jay Feely, even nabbed 13. For a guy who despises the fans in, and of, the City of Brotherly Love (or one fan imparticular), he sure loves the team. Too bad the three Eagles on Benn's roster only combined for 17 points.

MC Homer 7-5-1 (Michael Cureton) - 107

Sweatpants + Handguns 6-7 (Kerri Senno) – 99

     The only game that mattered this week was this one. I did it again, for the fifth time in a row, one game shy of Philly Fans current six-game hot streak (will you lose already Benn?). In a rematch of week two, Kerri's squad couldn't quite pull it out. Had she started Alex Smith (24) instead of Mr. Interception (11), I'd have refused to write this article, but since she didn't, I won, and was happy to write this piece. The Broncos Def dominated Kansas City, to the tune of 24 points. Kerri only had three players in single digits, the only problem was the double digit scores were of the 10, 11, and 13 variety.

     I'm sure you were all oblivious to it, but two weeks ago I picked up Cincinnati's Def strictly for this week and next. They didn't disappoint this week, scoring 23 points against the lowly Lions. Another addition to my team, courtesy of Kerri, was Vernon Davis. You see, the 49ers had a bye during week 6, so she dropped him in favor of WR David Clowney (22 points all year). I'm a fan of his blog on PlayerPress too, but at what price? Vernon only leads the NFL in receiving TDs (10) and is by far the best fantasy TE in the galaxy. Thanks Kerri. I'll spare everyone from hearing about the two trades I made earlier in the year to set up my late playoff push (I was 2-5-1 at one point). Hint, hint, Ben Roethlisberger and Chris Johnson. So a big thanks to B-Dub and Jason for those deals. For everyone who was worried, no muscles were pulled during the patting of my back, by myself, but thanks for the concern.

      Next week is the last chance to stake a claim for a playoff spot. By far, the most important game involves Nolan's Bares and my Homers. Whoever wins lives to play another week, the loser gets his life back. Shh, don't tell anyone, but I wouldn't mind a few more weeks of hating fantasy football as opposed to having it erased from my memory. So for the handful of teams with the chance of living an extra week, good luck and for those of you with teams below .500, have a nice vacation. Send me a postcard, will ya?
</intro>

    <intro>
A number of key players will be sidelined today in the NFL. Listed below are some of the injuries and some advice on how to compensate for those missing players as your fantasy football league approaches the end of the regular season.

Owners that drafted Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson this season have been pleasantly surprised by his big-play ability. I know my fantasy team would not be leading my 10-team Yahoo league without Jackson's 769 yards and six touchdowns.

However, Jackson is slated to miss Sunday's game after suffering a concussion last week. With concussions being treated very seriously by the NFL, it is possible Jackson could miss more than just the next game. So owners will need to scan the waiver wire for a good matchup.

A player with a very good matchup is Bengals WR Laveraneus Coles. Coles is only owned in 48 percent of yahoo leagues and is going against a Lions' defense that allows around 280 passing yards per game.

Another player is Bucs WR Antonio Bryant. He is coming off a big week and I think that he and QB Josh Johnson are starting to develop some chemistry. Carolina will crowd the box to stop the Bucs' run game and I expect Bryant to create matchup problems.

A few other players to consider are Rams WR Donnie Avery against the Bears and Chris Chambers against the Chiefs. The Bears give up a lot of yards and points so Avery isn't a bad option. Chambers should be a last-ditch option going against the Broncos, but Chambers has put up 7 points or more in every week since Week 10. So, your team could do worse.

The injuries to Arizona QB Kurt Warner and Giants QB Eli Manning are worth noting. Warner's status is up in the air with that concussion, though I am not sure I would start him anyway. Manning is battling a heel injury and is going against an aggressive defense in Dallas. You should consider benching both guys.

Other QBs out this week are Falcons QB Matt Ryan and Carolina QB Jake Delhomme. Here are some QBs to start in place of these injured signal callers.

Jags QB David Garrard is only owned in 61 percent of leagues and is being started in 30 percent. The Jags are playing Houston this week and I expect a ton of points to be scored in that game. Start Garrard with confidence against the Texans' 14th-ranked pass defense.

Broncos QB Kyle Orton should definitely be given a shot this week. He is only owned by 64 percent of teams in Yahoo, so pick him up if he is available. Denver is playing Kansas City and the Broncos torched the Giants last week.

You could also start Niners QB Alex Smith or Titans QB Vince Young. I would say Smith is a solid start. He really impressed me last week against the Jaguars. He made some really good throws on third downs. He also has Vernon Davis, who is an absolute beast.

As much as I loved Young's performance last week, I would shy away from starting him if you have other options. The Colts defense is very opportunistic this season and that could mean a lot of picks.

That is all for this week. Be sure to check back later for my thoughts on the BCS and why I think Boise State should be given a shot.
</intro>

    <intro>
The superhero-like status that these men garner often makes this task more difficult, as we sometimes get so caught up in the game that we fail to realize that, unlike most games, this one is based on reality.

For part two of my “Fantasy Impact” series, I spoke with Vikings’ WR Bernard Berrian to answer this question and find out more about the star receiver.

Bernard Berrian Interview

Q: How familiar with fantasy football were you when you came into the NFL, and how familiar are you with it now?

A: Fantasy football has been around for awhile now, but I think that it has really gained popularity with the growth of the internet. I knew a little bit about it when I came to the league, but have become much more familiar with it over the past few years.

Q: Do you personally play fantasy football?

A: I don’t play, but a lot of my teammates and friends do. I think it’s a fun way to get more involved in the game, and get some friendly competition going. I might have to start playing next year.

Q: Do any guys on the team play fantasy football? What is the feeling of the team and players in the NFL in general regarding the game?

A: Yeah, I know a lot of guys in the league who are playing. There are also guys who don’t play and don’t pay much attention to it. It’s really across the board within the league.

Q: How do you think fantasy football has changed the game? How many times do you hear fans yell “I have you on my fantasy team”?

A: Fantasy football has given fans a chance to get more involved in the game. I think it has increased fan participation and enthusiasm. It gives them a chance to become the “coach” and control the game, which is something that they wouldn’t traditionally have access to.

I hear fans say “I have you on my fantasy team” all the time! I think fans that are playing fantasy football are really connecting with players now as opposed to just being fans of teams.

Q: You are obviously on Twitter. What do you think of players using Twitter and do you feel it gives you a more direct way to touch base with your fans than going through the media? Did your coaches warn you against speaking out on Twitter?

A: Yes the coaches did address Twitter. My feeling on the subject is that we are all adults. I am 100% capable of knowing what is appropriate and what is inappropriate. Twitter is a great way to reach out to my fans. It has really increased players’ fan bases. People who weren’t necessarily fans or followers of certain players now are because they get a closer look into a player’s life, and get to know who that player really is like.

Q: You have struggled to stay healthy so far in 2009, but what sort of chemistry and success do you expect to have in the future with Brett Favre at the helm?

A: I think that despite my injuries this year, Brett and I have had some great success and we will only get stronger as the season progresses.

Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?

A: Absolutely! I must have two showers before the game. I also pray twice and I have to have my iPod.

Q: You were born in Spain. Can you speak any Spanish?

A: I actually left Spain when I was still very young, so what little Spanish I may have known has since left me. I’d love to learn the language though.

Q: You began your career in the NFL in a backup and special teams role. How did not immediately being in the spotlight prepare you for your current stardom?

A: I have always been about working hard to fulfill my role on the team, be it a large higher profile position, or as a backup. Every player is an important component to the success of the team. As the wider receiver for the Vikings, I approach my job with the same focus and intensity that I have always approached football, regardless of my position.

Q: How much time do players spend “working” i.e. practicing, watching film, working out, etc.?

A: My typical daily routine consists of arriving at the facility at 7:45 a.m. I usually get treatment, practice, watch film, and lift weights. I tend to leave the facility around 5:00 p.m.

Q: What is your fastest ever 40 yard dash time?

A:  My fastest 40 was 4.41 seconds.

Q: A lot of fans don’t understand players have a life other than playing football. What do you enjoy doing other than playing football?

A: I really enjoy traveling and I’d like to do a lot more of it in the future. Most people don’t know that I play the drums and I am learning how to play the piano. Whenever possible, I love spending time with my family.

Q: Anything you want to let your fans know, fantasy football-related or not?

A: I appreciate every one of you for taking the time to get to know me a little bit better. This is a special season for the Vikings and our fans. Thank you all very much.
</intro>
