York, Mustangs Back In The Saddle Again

After graduating the class of 2009, so many in the baseball community asked, how would the Mustangs score runs with the 2010 class? We all knew they had the amazing pitching returning but with all the records compiled by that 2009 gauntlet, many assumed Memorial would have to win a lot of 2-1, 3-2 ball games in 2010. As is the case every year, that’s why they play the games! And play the games the Mustangs did. In 2010 the Memorial offense broke, shattered, or set, nearly all offensive records on file in school history compiling the most successful season ever at SB Memorial.
Fast forward to 2011 and Coach York and staff find themselves back in the saddle again. Not so much from an offensive standpoint but rather, (What will they do for pitching?) After all, they graduated perhaps the best pitching staff ever fielded at Memorial (Dahlstrand, Davis, Michalec, and Cotton).
Search the baseball community and you will find no one shedding any tears for the Mustangs. Just a glance at the returning class over on Echo Lane would cause many to shiver at the possibility of running into these guys in the play-offs. The Mustangs are returning another class of very familiar names, stars amongst the prep baseball community, (Taylor, Burgess, Rome, White, Carl, Rathjen, and Davidson). Top that off with the success of the Memorial underclass and there might be another monster in the making on the diamond.
The Mustangs offense shouldn’t miss a beat in the 2011 season returning the big bats of Boomer White, Carter Burgess, Wayne Taylor, Harris Rome, and Ben Carl. The question again will be pitching, pitching, and pitching. Whoever York and Staff trot out to the mound will be tested like no other district season in recent memory as Memorial enters the new 19-5A where they will face off night in, and night out, with the Katy Teams who all know a thing or two about baseball. Harris Rome and Wayne Taylor both have compiled surplus innings at the Varsity level but Coach York and Staff need some help form the underclass to fill out the pitching.
Enter another familiar name, (Clemens), as in Kacy Clemens. Yes another Clemens from that famous baseball family and this time it’s a pitcher. Kacy has a chance to be something special at Memorial but he’s still a young and raw talent that will need to prove himself on the varsity level. If Coach York and Staff are able to develop some help in the pitching staff, expect the Mustangs to be there in May.
