Why the Dolphins Aren't Losing
Written by Hopper, Wednesday December 03 2008
Clearly, the Miami Dolphins are not the same 1-15 team that they were last year. In fact, they're just 4 good games away from possibly making the playoffs. So, why aren't the Dolphins losing?
Look no further than their new quarterback, Chad Pennington. The same Chad Pennington that got kicked out of New York to make way for some old, washed up guy. Chad Pennington is not winning games for Miami. He's just not losing them either.
After a year with inconsistant play from Cleo Lemon and John Beck, the Dolphins drafted Michigan quarterback Chad Henne, who was expected to be the quarterback of the future down in Miami. But then, the Jets signed that old guy and sent the elder Chad packing. Just days later, Pennington was signed by division rival Miami. Not known for his arm, or his ability to win ball games, but for his completion percentage, the move did not make waves. It didn't help that the 'Phins started 0-2 either. However, just one week after an embarrassing loss to the Cardinals, the Dolphins marched into Foxboro and absolutely destroyed the undefeated Patriots. They didn't do it passing the ball, but running it, as Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined for five rushing touchdown. The only passing touchdown was thrown by Brown. So, where does Pennington factor into all this? He didn't make mistakes that allowed the opponent to stay in the game.
In fact, that's how the Dolphins have gotten to this point. They're 7-5, and though their wins aren't pretty, a win is a win. They're not flashy, like the Indianapolis Colts. Their quarterback isn't going to throw 5 touchdown passes in a game(their running back might) like Tom Brady. But their not going to lose dumb games either. Not the way they play the game.
The Miami Dolphins have figured out a way to win, and they have a quarterback who's not going to blow it. Hats off to Chad Pennington.
