Why The Celtics Will Lose The Finals

I've  been hearing doubters of the Celtics since the end of the regular season. The Hawks passed Boston in the standings, and the experts said that Dwayne Wade and Miami would advance in round 1. As the Celtics continued, those same critics concluded that Boston would be no match for LeBron James and the Cavaliers. After that series, many analysts said that James lost the series and did not give credit to the Celtics. They went on to say how Dwight Howard and Orlando would easily advance to the Finals, after all, they were 8-0 in the playoffs. The Celtics took a 3-0 lead, but then the Magic won two. Even fans in Boston were saying that the Celtics might lose a 3-0 lead in a series just like the Bruins did earlier this year.

Now it is the NBA Finals and many people are talking about the Lakers. They have Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. They have not lost at home in the playoffs. They are 8-0,  while the Celtics are 5-3 on the road. The Celtics are the first team to make the finals with a better road record than their home record in the regular season. The Lakers and Celtics combine for 32 Championships, whoever wins, this will be number 33.

In full disclosure, I am a fan of the Celtics. And I think they will win the series for three reasons. None of those reasons are because of their head-to-head history in the Finals. The three reasons I am thinking of are the defense, the match-ups, and the end of this era.

The defense has been a key for the Celtics in the playoffs. While some blame James for the collapse of the team with the best regular season record, not enough credit goes to Boston's defense. In their 12 playoff wins, the opponent has not scored 100 points.

The match-ups favor the Celtics too. Bryant is the best player in the game today, but Rajon Rondo has elevated his game in the playoffs. Gasol is also playing well, but going down the list of talent on these two teams, the next several names are all Celtics. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen give Boston many options.

It also is the end of this era for the Celtics. Allen will probably not be back, and Pierce may not be either. This is the last chance for them. But not only are they playing for their place in Boston history, they are playing for their next contract.

Those are my reasons, but from what I am hearing, the Celtics will lose the Finals. And maybe those predictions will be right. They have been wrong so far, but they have to get it right sometime.

It's gonna be fun, Chris. Hopefully the Celts don't let us down. Keep Kobe from winning, put Phil Jackson in his place, and for heaven's sake, don't let Ron Artest touch the Larry O'Brien trophy!!!

Did you intentionally make the title not match your prediction? I definitely didn't think you'd pick against your team.
