Urban Meyer steps down, again.
Written by WPrescott, Thursday December 09 2010
Urban Meyer stepped down as the head coach of the Florida Gators for the second time in less than a year. Meyer’s first resignation came in light of health concerns but only lasted a day before the coach decided that he would return as head coach for the Gators. This time, Meyer cites his family for the reason to walk away from one of the premier jobs in college football.
Meyer will coach his last game for Florida in the January 1st 2010 Outback Bowl against Penn State in Tampa. He will be going into his last game for Florida with 2 championships and an impressive 64-15 record under his belt.
Meyer’s departure does come without scrutiny. The season ended with an embarrassing 31-7 defeat to Florida State which was Meyer's first loss to the rival Seminoles. Florida lost five regular season games for the first time since 1988. This years 7-5 record was the most losses in his 10 year career. With the Florida program unraveling, is family really the reason Meyer stepped down?
