The Yankees need a few more pieces to bring them back to a championship

The
That extra humungous bat in the lineup would allow them to live with Melky and Gardner in center. Fans can not expect much offense from Cabrera or Gardner, but with Manny’s bat hitting behind A-Rod this would let Cabrera concentrate on getting base hits, such as singles, doubles and triples instead of trying to hit homeruns like he did last year. Gardner could concentrate on what he does best which is stealing bases. This was his strength in the minors. The Yankees need Cabrera to play good defense and hit in the .260’s or 70’s and Gardner to steal bases and hit in the same areas as Cabrera as far as average and getting on base. This is why Manny Ramirez’s bat would put the Yankees over the top. Not only will he help those two guys but what do you think he will do hitting behind A-Rod. Wow, I’m scared to think of what kind of numbers Alex Rodriguez would produce. Then let’s think about what Numbers Manny would put up, Period. Mark Teixeira batting behind Manny, this line-up would be lights out against any pitching rotation. Think about this Line-up for the Yankees in 09, Johnny Damon in Left Field leading off, Jeter Batting 2nd, A-Rod 3rd, Manny Clean-up, Texeira 5th, Jorge Posada 6th, Swisher or Nady in right field batting 7th, Robinson Cano 8th, and Melky and Gardner in a platoon in center field batting 9th. This line-up gives the Yankees speed at the top and bottom of their line-up. You bat A-Rod third instead of Texeira because of his speed and base stealing ability. Matsui can platoon in either right or left. During times when Matsui is in the line-up Gardner or Cabrera could lead off. Manny is crucial. I do not know what Brian Cashmen is waiting for. Damn the Manny was a Redsox theory or Manny is trouble in the club house. First off, the Yankees are not the type of team or organization that will allow anyone to come in and disturb their clubhouse. Can anyone picture many doing his acts like many being Manny with Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, A-Rod, Gerardi in that clubhouse. No Way, that should not even be an issue. It doesn’t matter how old Manny Ramirez is, he is one of the best hitters I have ever seen in my lifetime. This guy can flat out hit. Manny is one of the only baseball players that I have seen crush so many bad pitches that other batters do not even make contact with. If I was the N.Y Yankees General Manager upon what I witnessed from Manny Ramirez last season after he was traded to the L.A Dodges, and in the playoffs alone, I would have already signed him. If the Yankees are dumb enough to let one of the best sluggers and pure hitters in baseball history get away without even trying to sign him, then personally I am not sure they have enough to go all the way this year. There are a few others out there that could possibly help them. Like Ben Sheets. This is another guy that should be a no brainier. You have to go get Sheets, especially with this Andy Pettitte issue. Pettitte is clearly insulted by the Yankees offers of ten million and now less then that. He might not even be an option now. The Yankees can always throw Phil Hughes in that 5th spot, but why should they when they can get Ben sheets, whose stuff is ace quality. The only red flag with Sheets is that he is injury prone, but what athlete isn’t. That’s the risk you take when you sign these athletes. Maybe the Yankees should look to sign him to a short term deal unlike the Carl Pavono experience. Yankee fans remember that disaster. With Sheets the Yankees are looking at a starting rotation with C.C Sabathia as their ace, then I would put Chien – Ming Wang as the #2 starter, Joba Chamberlain as the #3 starter, A. J Burnett as the #4 starter ,and Ben Sheets as the 5th starter. He would be a great fifth starter with Hughes as the backup or sixth starter. The Yankees could use Ian Kennedy as a long reliever and Jose Veras as a set up man for Mariano Rivera. Boy this team could be great if they could make these moves. There is one other guy that I have flirted with the idea of bringing him in to play center field, Andrew Jones. I know he has been brutal in the last couple of years, but he did hit about 50 homeruns and drive in 130 runs a couple of years ago. That was just a thought, but Ben Sheets and Manny Ramirez equals championship. You know, maybe The Yankees should hire me as their General Manager.

I love the Yanks and I don't want to see Manny in a Yankees uniform.

I am a die hard Yankees fan and although part of me wants to see this happen, it won't and it shouldn't. Can I see Manny pulling his Manny being Manny behavior in the Yanks clubhouse? You're damn right I can. What exactly are Jeter, Mo or ARod gonna do about it? The guy would be making more money than just about everyone but ARod, so if I were Manny, I'd just tell everyone to STFU. Bottom line, he'd basically guarantee the Yanks at least a trip to the world series, but he'd be a problem eventually and it's better if someone like the Dodgers deals with him. The Yanks will be pretty damn tough even without him.

Manny, sure. Sheets, definitely. And while we're at it why don't we reanimate Lou Gehrig and Christy Mathewson? Manny will end up back in LA. Sheets looks like a good bet for Texas. Know why? Because even the great Yankees don't have pockets deep enough to put $300 million worth of players on the field. For crying out loud, they just wrote checks for close to half a billion dollars! When are you spoiled Yankee fans going to let up? Yes, your team has a lot of money. Just don't let it destroy your grasp on reality!
