The Point of the Decade

Who is the best point guard in the past ten years?!?
What’s the most important position on the hardwood in the NBA? Some will say you can not win without a superstar shooting guard or a 300 pound monster down low in the paint.
After watching this years playoffs I have noticed a trend with the more elite teams in the NBA. They all have solid point guards. I started looking at the past ten years and the championship squads. The point guard is the most important position and is the most underrated position.
So who is the MVPG (most valuable point guard) of the NBA for the past decade? Who have been the John Stockton, the Magic Johnson, and the Oscar Robertson? I have created a list of five point guards who are worthy.
Chauncey Billups- Yes he only has one ring, but he is about to endure in his 7th straight Conference Finals and is the first player to pull that off with two different teams. His nickname of course is Mr. Big Shot because of his clutch shooting throughout his career. After joining Denver early in the season he has turned the no-D Denver team into a juggernaut and a chance now to take down the all mighty Lakers.
Tony Parker- Although the Spurs were bounced out in the first round of the playoffs this year. Mr. Parker has two rings with the Spurs and a finals MVP. He also has taken a huge step with his game by improving his jump and 3pt shot over the last year. Now his biggest test will be in the years ahead. Once Manu cannot seem to stay off the IR and Tim Duncan’s old knees are begging to show wear and tear. Now more than ever the weight of success in San Antonio will be on Tony’s shoulders.
Steve Nash- One of the most exciting players to watch in the open court. He has two MVP awards to his name and has led two different teams to the Western Conference Finals. Although he has no ring Nash has been a multiple all star and has been called the ninth best point guard ever.
Derek Fisher- One of the most important players during the 3-peat years of the L.A. Lakers. He is a very underrated player on the star studded L.A. squads. His great defense and leadership has helped the likes of Jordan Farmar and Sasha Vujacic. He also taught Deron Williams a great young all star all he knew while he was in Utah for one year. He also is important on the court because of his good defense and clutch shooting. The shot now known as the “0.4” shot against the Spurs salvaged the Lakers Championship run during the 2004 playoffs.
Jason Kidd- Nine time All Star, many All NBA First Team and 1995 ROY award. After five consecutive playoff seasons with the Phoenix Suns, Jason was traded to the New Jersey Nets. In the first season the young Nets stunned everyone and reached the NBA finals for the first time in franchise history. They lost that year only to follow it up again the next year by reaching finals only to fall the Spurs in six. He has over 100 triple-doubles. Kidd is third on the all time assist list with 10142 career assists.
My vote for the best point guard in the past ten years goes to Chauncey Billups. What he has done in Denver is remarkable. They now have a chance to take down the Lakers, which is amazing for a squad that has been bounced out of the first round the last five years and has been criticized for having no defense. Take your pick, which is the most valuable point guard in the last ten years.

J-Kidd, hands down. Nash's MVPs were results of playing in the seven seconds or less system, as well as sports writers not willing to admit they made a mistake, and gave him two more trophies after the first. Kidd would have made as many conference finals as Billups if he had the supporting casts Billups has.
