The Penn State Disgrace
In a tragic and sick story like this it is so easy for us to rush to judgment and this is my first blog discussing this situation. I’m not going to get into legal jargon or jump on a bandwagon because everyone else has. We’ve heard endless opinion, endless speculation, endless blame and enough talk to make you throw up in your mouth. As you know, I always go with an unfiltered approach and I’m going to make this blog very simple.
If the entire Penn State situation would have been handled by all those involved as if it were their own child – we wouldn’t be discussing this disgraceful national scandal. IF it seems that a nation has rushed to judgment, well, when it comes to kids we sure ought to! When it comes to the safety of our kids or someone else’s kids, I’m not sure rushing to judgment is a bad thing. While our hate for those involved on the abuser side is palpable, our compassion for the victims needs to be more vigilant so we can save the lives that have already been scarred.
Obviously, no moral high horse here but in my unfiltered opinion knowing all the facts – here’s what should have been done. Joe Paterno is a huge difference-maker, all rules and chain of command go out when a child is involved and he was negligent in that regard. Like a dedicated military man who obeys the chain of command he also knows that saving a life is more important than the punishment you receive from breaking that command. Paterno owed it to those kids and their families to break the chain of command and stop the sickness.
Mike McQueary – with all the speculation, many say he did the wrong thing he says he didn’t. Regardless, I know this: no man or woman with any guts, character and that has their own children heck – you don’t even have to have your own children would not have gone to Jerry Sandusky and choked the life out of him regardless of the ramifications to your career or your physical health. Only a coward would have let that happen and not reported it to the authorities. You always put yourself in harm’s way to save the scars that children may suffer – McQueary could have done more!
And finally Jerry Sandusky is just a very sick man who deserves to face the same fears that those children faced every time they came in contact with him and a general population maximum security will do just that. When it feels uncomfortable to be around a child then its inappropriate. So regardless Jerry Sandusky has a sickness that has affected lives as much as a bullet to the head.
AS we press forward, lets hope that Penn State the university can instill what we always thought was good about the Nittany Lions, let’s pray the madness stops and that somehow someway these victims can find some sense of peace and security in their lives.

Hey Sean, how come you and your fellow ESPN buddies have completely ignored the Syracuse scandal? Could it be that there are a ton of Syracuse grads working at ESPN? Unless you comment on the Syracuse scandal you are nothing but a complete hypocrite, just like everyone else at the joke that is ESPN.
