The Night is Young in Tennessee

Vince Young has brought new life back to Tennessee and is proving why he should have started all along.

With Vince Young's 99 yard game winning drive on Sunday he is proving to everyone that he can be the player we thought he was going to be after the stunning Rose Bowl game his junior year in college. But maybe he was that player all along and it just took everyone until now to realize it.

He not only has his team on a 5 game win streak but he is showing why he was the number 3 pick in the 2006 draft. After Young's first season and a Rookie of the Year award, hopes were high in Tennessee. He hit a bit of a rough spot in his sophomore campaign and after some early season trouble last year he was being called a bust and rumors of some personal troubles did not help the situation.

He had lost his starting job and fans in Tennessee were calling for a trade. So how could someone with so much potential go down so quickly. With no notable weapons on the offensive end and not a single 1000 yard receiver it's hard to put all the blame on the QB. But with the QB being the face of the offense, most or all of the blame is put on them. If you look at last years team with Kerry Collins at QB the Tennessee Titans went an impressive13-3. If you just look at the offensive end of last years team your not as impressed.

With teams loading up to stop the run Kerry Collins managed to pass for 2,676 yards 12 TDs and 7 INTs. Those numbers by by themselves are not impressive. The top 2 WR for the 13-3 Titans finished with 651 yards and 449 yards. Not the stats you would expect from a 13-3 football team.

The defensive which carried this team was 2nd in the league allowing 14.6 ppg. If you look at the 2007 Titans quarterbacked by Vince Young. The first big difference you notice is who is at running back or more like who is not at running back. With Chris Johnson still running for East Carolina the Titans are a much more vulnerable team. Teams no longer have to put 7 or 8 defenders in the box and are much more focused on the pass.

Even with these disadvantages and no primary weapon on offensive Vince Young still managed 2,546 yards 9 TDs and 17 INTS. If you look at the receivers that Young had to throw to, 17 INTs does not look so bad. Even with all these odds against him and a lack luster defense Young managed to get his team to a 10-6 finish. Young has always been about winning and that's what he does win. Through 34 games Young has a record of 23-11. Not bad for a guy that was benched last season.

With the 2009 season underway and the rock of the Titans defense gone in Albert Haynesworth Kerry Collins showed his true form and had his team out to a horrific 0-6 start. Collins through 6 games had more INTs than TDs and was being booed out of Tennessee. So in comes Vince Young who in his mind should have been starting all along and the Titans, the same Titans which were 0-6 are now 5-6 and on a 5 game win streak.

Young hasn't looked this good since he was wearing burnt orange and is doing exactly what he could have been doing all along. Winning. On his 99 yard game winning drive last sunday, Young showed poise, leadership, great clock management, and a will to win that every great QB has. Young was 9-16 with 94 yards and a TD on that final drive. With the Titans future looking bright the night really is young in Tennessee.
