The Faces of the Video Game World
Written by TheFutureJimNantz, Monday April 27 2009
With the NFL draft going on this past weekend, many might wonder whether their team selected the right players to make a Super Bowl run. Then again, if you are a Raiders’ fan, you were thinking about the mistakes Al Davis is likely to make over the weekend, and did. Many teams were looking to find the “Face of their Franchise”. Others organizations were trying to fill needs with super stars and role players. Other teams drafted cover boys, such as Michael Crabtree and Mark Sanchez. The Texas Tech wide receiver was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco 49ers, while Sanchez went fifth to the New York Jets. Both of these players will be featured on the upcoming versions of NCAA Football 2010. Can either of these players become the third player to be featured on both the NCAA’s Football video game and the NFL’s version, Madden?
This past week Madden NFL 2010 announced that both, Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald, will share the cover together. Many might remember that Larry Fitzgerald was featured on the NCAA Football cover as well. The standout wide receiver at the University of Pittsburgh won the Walter Camp Award as a sophomore. Fitzgerald also won the Biletnikoff Award for the best wide receiver in the country in 2003. He was also a unanimous 2003 All-American selection and was the runner up to Jason White, by a very slim margin, for the Heisman Trophy that same season.
Now with Larry Fitzgerald placing his name among the best in National Football League, he has also placed his name with one other football player, Shaun Alexander. Both Larry Fitzgerald and Shaun Alexander are the only two players to be both featured on NCAA and Madden’s respective football covers. Alexander was garnered with the cover of NCAA 2001 as well as being featured on the Madden 2007 cover. With the talk about the “Madden Curse” and the injuries that relate to player being featured on the cover, Larry Fitzgerald must solidify his place amongst the elite pass catchers in the league.
Larry Fitzgerald has been in the league since 2004 when then Cardinals coach Dennis Green drafted him third overall. His first season as a cardinal, he caught eight touchdowns as a rookie and had 780 yards on 53 receptions. Fitzgerald then was selected to his first of three Pro Bowls (2005, 2007, 2008). In 2008, Larry Fitzgerald made video game like catches all year for the Cardinals, especially in the playoffs. His talents can be seen this summer on Madden 2010. Now the question is, which players the 2009 NFL Draft will join Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu as cover boys in the future?

It should be Clay Matthews on the cover...the poster child for hard work and dedication actually paying off.
