S.F. Giants--WORLD CHAMPIONS!!! Wait 'Til Next Year!

Anyone who has read my articles over the past two seasons knows that I am a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan.

     Homer?

In the words of 2-time Cy young Award winner Tim Lincecum: "F--K YEAH!

Our Giants have dispatched the Texas Rangers with ease in capturing this season's World Championship.  It is a feeling that I've wanted to experience since I was a scrawny 10-year-old, watching Juan Marichal dominate a Hall Of Fame-ladened National League.

The 4-1 World Series victory over Texas seemed almost anti-climactic after a torturous two year run that saw our team search for it's post-Bonds identity.

I would like to let the baseball world know that this season was only the beginning of what could be a Giant dynasty.

     What happened?

The Giants won the National League Western Division on the last day of this season.  We took out a tough-but injured Atlanta Brave team that fought us with all that they had left to fight with.

We then saw San Francisco knock off a Philadelphia Phillies team that was in search of it's third consecutive World Series appearence.

Our run was culminated by dumping what seemed to be an overmatched Texas Ranger squad that most observers felt had no chance of reaching this year's Fall Classic.

Keep in mind Texas beat the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees just to reach their franchise's first World Series ever.

To say that Texas didn't put up a fight would be an unfair assessment.  Texas fought had to get into the World Series and they did not lay down.

Texas, Minnesota, and Tampa Bay are all first-class organizations that fell short of their intended goals.  The Yankees...welll they are the Yankees.   No, money does not buy class.  But They are the yankees and Texas should be proud of their Rangers for beating New York.

It seems as if I was the only writer on this site to exhault the paraises of the San Francisco Giants.  And I'm talking about a period that began last season during Spring Training.

The Giants have brought back an aspect of sport that has been missing from baseball since the early 1990s...Teamwork.  A team concept.

Look at our World Champions and you will see what baseball is aal about.  Pitching.  Starting Pitching, middle relief and an nut-case closer who really doesn't give a damn what you think about him.

Still, you look at them and say "...why them?"

We have no superstars on offense and we have a starting rotation that has a bunch of kids and an overpaid-yet underappreciated southpaw who failed to make it's post-season roster..

Barry Zito ( much to my regret ) didn't make San Francisco's post-season roster.

Offensively, we had two major disappointments.  Outfielder Aaron Rowand shoud have been dumped in the 2009 season and shortstop Edgar Renteria who has been the worst free agent signing in team history.

Rowand's two-run pinch-hit triple in Game 2 capped off the team's biggest rally since late-August.

All reteria did was win the World Series MVP.

     Talk about team players.

Now the focus should shif to next season.  That's when the Giants go into the season with the bulleye on their backs.

They will enter 2011 with a starting rotation of Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, Madison Bumgarner, Zito and Lincecum.

One of the major offensive threats will jump from the free agent pool onto this roster, too.  Jayson Werth, Carl Crawford or Adrian Gonzalez would look very intimidating in the middle of this batting order.  Cody Ross, Pat Burrell and Aubrey Huff may wat to stick around, too.

If you think 2010 presented a great run...wait until 2011 when free agents will want to be San Francisco Giants.

Repeat is already on my mind.  Next season I would like to face the Yankees or get revenge for my Giants' World Series loss against the Angels for 2002.  A win to erase the memory of the 1989 earthquake against Oakland ( a team that I love ) would be great too.

Make no mistake, last night's World Championship celebration is only the beginning of what should be a pitching-related San Francisco Giants dynasty.

     Are you listening, yet?

Until then...WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!
