S.F. Giants--Unstopable After Sweeping Dodgers
Written by T Reginald Sykes, Tuesday August 03 2010
You're wondering why a team in contention doesn't make any major moves before the trade deadline.
For the San Francisco Giants, it's obvoius that no moves were needed.
Yet General Manager Brian Sabean felt compelled to make an obligitory trade. And the Giants did pick up relief help by adding Ramon Ramirez from Boston and Pittsburgh's Javier Lopez to their suddenly crowded mix.
The only reason for making those moves is because of injuries to Jeremy Affeldt and Dan Runzler, leaving Manager Bruce Bochy without a reliable lefty in his bullpen. Lopez should fill that need.
Before season's end, the entire team ( Affeldt and Runzler included ) will be healthy. That would leave them with 16 Major League pitchers. This doesn't include Dontrell Willis or Byun Yun Kim, currently in their minor league system.
Good luck to Bochy for having to make some critical decisions while making the team's playoff roster.
Oh, yes! I said it!
PLAYOFFS!
It's time that the baseball world pays attention to our San Francisco Giants because this is a team capable of going all the way.
In July the team only had three days off...the All-Star Break. Yet the Giants won 20 of their 28 games, including a 13-5 road clip.
They now have the second best record in the National League and the Padres are only two games ahead of them. The Giants are also putting a tighter grip on tha Wild-Card spot, as well.
Sweeping the Dodgers this past weekend was not a big deal...Okay, it was a big deal. I don't think it shocked anyone.
Tonight, the Giants will travel to Denver and proceed to bury the Rockies. After taking this important series, you may be convinced.
Every team in baseball fears the Giants
