S.F. Giants--Team To Beat In Post-Season...Yeah, Good Luck With That!

     Baseball...beware!

Fans of Cincy and Philly...be on allert!

Twins, Rangers, Rays and Yankees...Your segment of the 2010 playoffs is a mere formality.  The title is not yours to own.

The series to watch in the first round in this year's playoffs begins Thursday on McCovey Cove's friendly shore.

I see no team that made this year's post season who stands a chance to beat our San Francisco Giants in a short series.

The Giants are the purest definition of what a team is supposed to be.

Because going from #1 through #37, the Giants have the depth of talent un-matched by any other Major League team.  Yet, you wonder how.

We have the best pitching in baseball--bar none.  Our ace is a 5" 10" hippie who barely weighs 160 pounds.  Our suprstar hitter went through a sophomore jinx that saw him lose favor with everyone except fans under the age of thirteen and 40-year old kid bold enough to wear "panda ears" in public.

Our utility infielder was second on the team in homeruns and RBI.  A rookie catcher with all of 400 Major League at-bats our leader.  And making even less sense than all of that, we have three designatated hitters?  We are a National League team.

Where most teams made use of their farm systems to bolster September rosters, the Giants used the waiver wire, disabled list and a pair of medicore prospects.

At this point, we have no clue as to who may be "laid off" from our playoff roster.

If  given a say in the matter, I could only stamp a guarantee on baout 19 of 25 available spots.

Not only did San Francisco's September grind make us the mopnster that we've become, it turned our dugout into a tryout camp.

For my money, we need to start with our strength..."lights out"  pitching that begins with starters Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez and Madison Bumgarner.  This may be the only post-season rotation that doesn't need to be reduced in any way.  In fact, it may be the only time in history that a team enters the playoffs with a rotation that includes five legitimate aces.

Brian Wilson leads a bullpen  that is so crowded that even a fan like myself is uncomfortable trying to make decisions.

Along with Wilson there is Sergio Romo, Santiago Casilla, Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez and one other spot.  For that spot  a dog fight between Guellermo Mota, Chris Ray, Dan Runzler and Ramon Ramirez exists.

The same sort of log jam is a part of our outfield situation.  We have Pat Burrell, Cody Ross, Eugino Valez, Andres Torres, Nate Scheirholtz, Aaron Rowand and Jose Guillen.   At least two of these players will not make the playoff roster.

Burrell, Ross, Torres and Sheirholtz must make the team.

The infield is not so clear-cut either.  Resurgent retread Aubrey Huff is the team's offensive leader and first base is the only place we could stick him.  Without Huff San Francisco may not have won a rather strong National League Western Division.

Travis Ishikawa,  Pablo Sandoval. Jose Uribe, Michael Fontenot, Edgar Renteria, Freddie Sanchez  and ( afformentioned outfielder ) Valez round out our infield situation.

Catcher Buster Posey is the best player on the team this season and Eli Whiteside is his backup/

This is where I have a problem.  We are entering the playoffs with only two catchers and one just happens to be our franchises players.  The "emergency" catcher is the "Panda," who filled in pretty well in several 2009 games.  But I don't wasnt Sanoval trying to catch in a post-season situation.

Posey has caught almost severy game over a four-week period and in order for us to win a World Series Championship,  He'll have to take his days off by playing first base.

Whatever our post-season roster is, The San Francisco Giants are the team to beat.  We don't have to face San Diego anymore.  The Padres were our ( Padre ) Daddy this season and each othe previous two years as well.

We are 3-4 against Atlanta in a matchup tha was done long before San Francisco went through therir major mutation.

We have owned Cincy and Philly for a couple of seasons and I don't see any major American League threats, either.

I want everyone to take notice of this statement...Ther is no team in this 2010 Post Season that is equal to the San Francisco Giants.   NONE!

Of course, they will be playing on the field, not on paper.  But without a doubt, I believe that we will win it all.

Fans throughout the nation will experience "Torture" first-hand.

As of this moment the Giants have a new "magic number."  ELEVEN!

That's how many wins it takes to earn a World Championship.
