Ryno A Card?

Ryno A Card?

Those are three of the hardest words for me to say. One of the greatest Cubs ever and my generation. More and more it is looking like a reality. Granted he hadn’t acquitted himself very well when he was managing in the Cubs minor league system. But if he is hired by the St. Louis cardinals it will be the biggest blunder by the Cubs since trading Lou Brock to the same Cardinals.

The rule is never to trade within you your division because no one likes to see a beloved star wearing the uniform of a rival unless although it worked for the Cubs when they raided the Pittsburgh Pirates roster and nearly made the World Series in 2003. But there were no Hall of Famers involved. It also worked against us when former shortstop Ryan Theriot recently won Championship ring with the same Cardinals and former second baseman Mike Fonteno won a ring with the Giants in 2010. When asked where his loyalties lie he says it is with the team who hires him. If such a hire does happen former GM Jim Hendry should be hung in effigy.

Let’s not forget that Ryno turned from the wise mild mannered second baseman we used to know into the minor league version of Bobby Cox; Getting himself thrown out of games for arguing calls with umpires. It is a side of him we never knew. Supposedly he got himself thrown out of a game in the first inning of a game with playoff implications. His team lost the game and a chance to go to the playoffs. Eventually Ryno lost out on the job as Cubs manager.

I am excited  by the changes the Cubs have made to improve the team and it’s chances to go to the World Series ending a drout now five score  and 3 three years long. But it will be disheartening to see a beloved Cub in a Cardinals uniform. At least it’s not in a White Sox uniform.
