Roger Clemens High School Baseball Coach; Maiorana loses battle with cancer

On Monday December 13, 2010 the Texas High School Baseball Community lost one of their all time greats with the passing of 33 yr head coach Chrlie Maiorana who had been in a fierce battle with stomach cancer. Maiorana who in April of 2010 was honored with a field renaming at Spring Woods High School where the baseball field was renamed Maiorana Field in his honor.
Maiorana was a 1961 graduate of Spring Branch High School, a 1965 graduate of Sam Houston State Unicersity. He served 3 years as assitant coach and 30 years as head coach at Spring Woods where he compiled a 703-231 record reaching the Texas State Play-Offs 21 times, many in an era of single qualification. Maiorana's teams were area ranked 24 times, state ranked 21 times and nationaly ranked 9 times. Maiorana was elected to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association HALL-OF-FAME in 2000.
Maiorana coached some of the best to play in Texas High School Baseball as well as a few pros including; Roger Clemens, & Chris Snyder
