Receiver woes in the Natti

My favorite player in the NFL has got to be Chad Ochocinco. He is one of the best on-field receivers in the game and his off the field antics make him one of the most charismatic players in the league. Ocho was on a show this past summer called Dancing with the Stars. It was cool to see Ocho with a partner feeding off her and working with her. The Bengals need to get a wide receiver partner for my man Ocho. So far they have been struggling to do that.

Rewind a couple months ago. One of the most anticipated events in the NFL calendar is the Draft. Like most Americans I watched the opening first round on primetime ESPN. I stayed up watching until my favorite team, the Bengals, made their pick. I was hopeful because Oklahoma State stud Dez Bryant was still on the board. I thought he would be perfect for the Bengals. He is a perfect physical specimen for the wide out position. As fast as Ochocinco and as big as a defensive end. I thought he could be the perfect partner to Ochocinco. He was a young stud that was NFL ready. But the Bengals selected Germayne Greshem, tight end from Oklahoma. He was a good pick but I think they missed out on a great player like Dez Bryant.
In the offseason I did like what Mike Brown and the Bengals front office did. They went out and signed a couple free agents to help their depth at wide out. The Bengals signed B-level receivers like Antonio Bryant and Matt Jones. The guys will help out the Bengals receiving core, but I do not thing that they will have a huge impact. They need that guy that has big play potential.
Hopefully that guy will not be Terrell Owens. Terrell is a tremendous, hall of fame caliber receiver. He takes care of himself, he is in great shape and best of all, he has big play potential. But one problem is that I do not think that he will be a good fit in Cincy.
T.O. has always been the number 1 receiver. But if he came to Cincy he would have to take a backseat to Ochocinco. That is just too many big personalities in a locker room. If you watch the Ochocinco show it looks like T.O. and Ocho are great friends. But if they step onto the field and start to have to compete for catches, there goes their friendship. I remember when I had to compete with my buds to win a starting job in football. I loved the guys off the field, but inside the rectangle they were my worst enemy.
That is what I am afraid is going to happen in Cincy. And we have all seen when T.O. does not get his catches. I just do not want to see Owens yelling at Carson Palmer like he did to McNabb. Owens is a great receiver, but I do not think it would work in Cincy. He will probably end up in St. Louis where he can be a number 1.
With the lack of a big name receiver to counter Ochocinco one guy has to step up, Carson Palmer. This is a pass first league. Since Cedric Benson is in legal trouble, the Bengals have to improve their pass game if they want to improve from last year. I do not care who your receivers are, if you have a stud quarter back, you will win games. I will keep my ear to what is going on in training camp this year, it will show me a lot about how this Bengal pass game is going to be next year.
