The Tampa Bay Rays had plenty of opportunities to put their game against the Cleveland Indians at Tropicana Field out of reach, but they had to settle for winning the game in the final at bat.  The Rays had the bases loaded with 0 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, but were unable to score.

Fortunately, for the Rays on Sunday they got another chance to beat the Indians in the bottom of the 10th inning when Jason Bartlett hit a walk-off single, scoring Carl Crawford; who had homered earlier in the game to give the Rays a 6-5 victory and a 3-game lead in the wildcard over rival Boston.  The win closed out a 7 game home stand, which saw the Rays go 6-1, including a 3 game sweep over the Red Sox earlier in the week.  Andy Sonnanstine picked up the win after pitching a scoreless top of the 10th.

Now, don’t get me wrong I am extremely pleased that the Rays finished up the 1st half of the season 20 games over .500 at 54-34, but with this said having the bases loaded with no outs and not scoring is unacceptable!!  The Indians for those that do not know are the bottom dwellers of the AL Central.  The Rays must get better offensively, especially at times when runners are in scoring position.

The All-star break is officially here and the Rays will send Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, David Price, and closer Soriano to the All-star game in Los Angeles, which will be played on Tuesday evening.  The Rays will begin the 2nd half of the season in New York this coming Friday for a 3 game series against the Yankees.
