Playstation 3 Summer Preview
Written by Corey Atkinson, Sunday April 26 2009

Summer not only brings blockbuster movies, but the season also brings with it some of the hottest games of the year.
Sony has been claiming that 2009 will be the year of the Playstation 3. It is hard to take them serious because they have been claiming every year since the console’s release that it was their year. 2009 might be the exception this time around. Developers have had more time with the machine and the games that are coming to the platform are showing the console’s true power.
Playstation 3 has many exclusives that are coming to the console this year. One of the biggest releases for the system so far was Killzone 2 which came out in February. Killzone 2 is one the best looking console games on any platform, so things are looking bright for the future of the Playstation 3. Sony is about to bring out some killer games, but they need to lower the price of the system to expand to more customers.
Let’s take a look at some of the games that will be coming out this summer.

InFamous
A Playstation 3 exclusive, InFamous is an open world games much like Grand Theft Auto. You take control of a character named Cole. Cole was involved in a massive explosion that has ripped up a city. After the explosion, Cole gained super powers for which he can use to either save or destroy the citizens of Empire City. Players will have the choice of either being a bad guy or a good guy. Your actions will change how the game is played out.
The cut scenes look like they are being ripped right out comic book. Players can control Cole to leap or climb over buildings, shoot electricity out of his hands, or create a shockwave. The game features a karma system which measures how good or bad your character is. For example, players will be given a choice to make either a good moral decision or a bad moral decision. Cole will come in contact with a fan who made two posters of Cole. One poster depicts Cole as a hero and the other poster depicts Cole has a villain. Players can choose which poster they like, but if they choose the villain poster pedestrians will be afraid of Cole.
Rumor has it that copies of InFamous will include a demo of Uncharted 2 which is slated for a fall release. InFamous is shaping up to be a must-have game. It will be released on May 26, 2009.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game
Yes, the Ghostbusters are back to kick some ghost butt. The new game will be released on not only the Playstation 3, but on Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 2, DS and PC. The game’s storyline was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Rammis. The game will feature all the original Ghostbusters, including Aykroyd, Rammis, Bill Murphy, and Ernie Hudson. Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver decline to be in the new video game, but Alyssa Milano has stepped in to play the new love interest.
Aykroyd said the videogame is essentially Ghostbusters 3. The game takes place 2 years after the events of Ghostbusters 2. Players will take control of a new recruit who will play along with the original Ghostbusters. Players can expect to taken down a horde of ghosts. Other details of the storyline have kept under wrap. It has been reported that players will encounter many of the ghosts from the previous Ghostbusters films including Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
The game will feature multiplayer and co-op. IGN detailed the multiplayer experience. “Survival pits you against a "paranormal onslaught;" Containment is all about capturing every single ghost out there; Destruction charges you with destroying a bunch of ghost-spawning artifacts; you'll need to protect Egon's devices in Protection; Thief wants you to stop ghosts from stealing artifacts and Slime Dunk asks you to "dunk the most slimers," which I'm assuming means slamming them into the ghost traps.
Prototype
Prototype is another open world game. In Prototype, players will take control of Alex Mercer. At the beginning of the game, Alex wakes up in a morgue with no memory why and how got there. He soon realizes he has special powers. His powers include such things as running extremely fast, jumping high buildings, lift heavy objects, telepathic capability, transformation, and more.
The object of the game is to figure out Alex’s past. In order to do so, players have to use Alex’s powers to kill his supposed enemies. When Alex kills someone, he consumes their memories, abilities, and appearances. Gaining memories is key in order to advance the story.
If killing is not your thing, let your enemies do the killing for you. Take control of enemies and have them fight to the death. The developers of Prototype promise that there are over 700 combinations of powers that are at Alex’s disposal. Prototype is due in stores on June 9. It is also coming out for the PC and Xbox 360.
