Playoffs Begin Week 16
Written by Chriso, Sunday December 27 2009
Going in to Week 16, 12 teams in the AFC still have playoff hopes.
And the scheduling stars aligned with 10 of the 12 teams scheduled to play each other. Think about it. In College Football, at the highest level, there is no playoff. "The regular season is our playoff," you might hear some BCS fans say. Look at the NFL in week 16. The playoffs begin right now.
Starting with the two teams that are not playing top teams in the AFC, the Denver Broncos are playing a top team in the NFC, the Eagles. The Broncos will try to hold on to their spot as a wildcard team while the Eagles try to win the NFC East. B-Dub provides a preview to the Broncos game with the Eagles. Meanwhile the Bengals are playing the Chiefs. I guess the schedule would not be completely perfect.
One game is already in the books, where San Diego went to Tennessee on Christmas Night and won 42-17. For the Chargers, it was their 18th win in a row in December and sealed up the second seed for the playoffs. For the Titans, they had been in a crowd of teams at 7-7. With the loss, they have been eliminated, ending a Cinderella story for a team that started the season 0-6 but made an impressive 7-1 run to get back in the playoff picture.
Another playoff style game will be between the Texans and the Dolphins. Both teams are in that 7-7 crowd, one team will stay alive, the other will be eliminated. The rest of the playoff picture is available here.
Playoffs in December. It's like an extra Christmas present.
