Pay The Man
Written by Godfrey Logan, Monday November 07 2011
I was never a fan of Chicago Bears Running Back Matt Forte since he’s been in Chicago, until now. I’ve always said in order for a team to compete offensively, you must have a hundred yard rusher every game. He’s struggled with that goal since he’s been in Chicago. The problem with that is when you play a sixteen game schedule a good running back should have a minimum of 1600 yards. Even missing significant time with injury a player should still be able to gain over 1000 yards.
Granted the Bears offensive line has been a joke for a while and GM Jerry Angelo has been terrible at drafting offensive linemen. It could be the offensive system under Mike Martz which could make Jay Cutler wish he was back in Denver.
Forte has played up to his potential this season but the Bears are planning to put the franchise tag on him after this season and possibly the season after next. Considering the guy has been playing with the same contract since he came into the league which pays him less than a million dollars this season. I’d say pay the man or draft another running back they’d consider giving him his due without a fight.
I could go on about the Bears being a franchise about that has a bunch of cheapskates in the front office, but they’ve heard that accusation before. There were fans in London where the Bears played the Buccaneers with signs saying, “pay the man.” He’s earned something by now. Give him that much or let him go.
