Pacquiao, Cotto Ready For Firepower
Written by unclerico, Wednesday November 11 2009
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is back and for the time being, he's got the title of pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He came back over the summer and dominated Juan Manuel Marquez for 12 rounds en route to a huge victory and is now waiting for the other half of his projected epic showdown. The other half is supposed to be Manny Pacquiao but there is a potential road block in the way: Miguel Cotto.
The Pacquiao Cotto odds will take place this this Saturday, November 14th in what should be the boxing event of the yea. While the Mayweather-Marquez bout was more of a technical bout, this contest will be more of a street fight. While Mayweather and Marquez are boxers that like to move around, avoid big hits and be precise with their own punches, both Pacquiao and Cotto are boxers that step into confrontation with reckless abandon. There should be plenty of firepower this Saturday and we should see nothing but fireworks.
Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto
Sportsbook odds: -275
The Pacquiao versus Cotto fight presents some interesting story lines for boxing betting fans. On one hand, you have Pacquiao, who is in his prime and who has destroyed everything in his path. On the other hand, we have Cotto, who is an up-and-comer but even that title might be premature considering he lost to Antonio Margarito and nearly lost to Joshua Clottey.
Cotto basically trains himself and that has visibly been a problem in his last couple of fights. A boxer can't train himself because you need a third party to see what is missing and what needs to be improved. For Cotto, he is making the same mistakes.
One of the most noticeable flaws in his game is that he's not consistent. In the sportsbook ratings, he's been visibly fading as his fights have progressed recently and that could be a major problem against Pacquiao. Cotto was dominating both Clottey and Margarito but as the fight wore on, he nearly lost to Clottey and did in fact lose to Margarito.
On top of that, this will be Cotto's first blockbuster event in Las Vegas, which should give Pacquiao another edge. Pacquiao has been in three such fights in the last year alone.
Pacquiao is the better fighter, he has the better trainer and he has the edge in experience. As long as Cotto doesn't catch him with a crazy punch, Pacquiao should win this fight rather easily.
Online sports betting pick: Pacquiao
