Once Again, Thanksgiving Turkeys
Written by Chriso, Thursday November 25 2010
It's Thanksgiving, but it almost feels like Groundhog Day. Every year it's always the same story. The groundhog sees the shadow, six more weeks of winter. And the NFL on Thanksgiving is less than desirable. It's the same old story.
You could look it up in my article from last year: "Here Come The Turkeys". Last year it was the Packers in Detroit, the Raiders in Dallas, and finally the Giants in Denver. This year all three games include a team with a good record and a bad record.
The day starts again in Detroit, only this year the guest is the Patriots. New England has an 8-2 record, but one of those losses was to Cleveland in what was a classic "trap" game. The Patriots have some injuries on their offensive line, and that could lead to a big day for Lions rookie Ndamukong Suh. Or maybe the Patriots learned some lessons in Cleveland and will answer today's challenge.
Next is a trip to Dallas. Maybe this is not the fault of the folks who made the schedule. Prior to the season, it was supposed to be a game between the defending Super Bowl Champions from last year and the team that was supposed to host their own Super Bowl for the first time this year. However, a funny thing happened on the way to turkey day. Things have not gone well in Dallas, and it led to the firing of Wade Phillips. Dallas has won both games since the coaching change, but the Saints have much more riding on this one. I think New Orleans will win.
The night game is the Jets against Cincinnati. Again, this was a good idea prior to the season. It was a rematch of the playoffs last year. Terrell Owens teamed up with Chad Ochocinco, but they have not had the success in the standings.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy the turkey on the table and the ones on the field. Maybe there will be a good match next year. Or maybe it will be Groundhog Day all over again.
