Oh The (Phillies) Horror!

Can the Phillies get a bailout?
Can Jimmy Rollins be the equivalent to a governmental bailout for the Philadelphia Phillies? If you answered no, stop reading and know you have little to no sports knowledge. If T.A.R.P could manifest itself in the form of a baseball player, it would be re-incarnate as Jimmy Rollins. Just like our economy, the Phillies’ home record woes (13-18 and 1-5 in there last two series) are equally as complex. The starting pitching has been inconsistent and banged up. The bullpen has been over used due to all the recent extra inning games (not to mention Brad Lidge’s inability to be the same closer he was last year). In addition, Ibanez is now on the DL with a groin injury, and I have never seen the Phillies make as many fielding errors as they have had this season, especially at home.
How do the Phillies turn their home record woes around? J-Rol, baby. Why is he so important to this team? He is so multifaceted. Now many of the players on the Phillies are dynamic, i.e. Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, and Jason Werth. However, none do exactly what Rollins does for the team. Rollins is the “stimulus” to the Phillies success. Things might not always end with Rollins hitting game winning homeruns, but you bet your ass he will be on base to witness the homerun first hand (when Rollins is playing up to his potential). And that is the key the Phillies have been missing, shown in their inability to beat the Red Sox and Blue Jays. If the Phillies want to repeat, they are going to need Jimmy Rollins firing on all cylinders. These past two series shows that if the Phillies remain status quo, they will not be able to duplicate last year’s results.
Last year the Phillies did not have the kind of year they expected from Jimmy in 2008, following a 2007 MVP season. But the Phillies won the Championship anyway. However, the Phillies need Rollins this season. In a league where if you are not adding more talent, your team is getting worse, the Phillies need to add the 2007 J-Rol to their line-up. The Phils made few signings this year (emphasized by Raul Ibanez’s emergence). With injured pitching, the team needs to rally behind their hitting until everyone is healthy again. Rollins returning to his ’07 form could be just the addition the Phillies need (however, Peavy, Halladay, or Bedard would be nice too).
The Phillies play the Baltimore Orioles today, with Antonio Bastardo on the mound. This is the pitcher called up to replacing Brett Myers. Now the O’s are no
In closing, the Phillies will not remain this bad playing at home. If there is one thing we know about this particular team, it is that they are professional, and the most talented. The Phils recognize they have the “Will to Power,” and if they want it enough, they will take it. However, it will not come to fruition with out the help of Rollins. So Jimmy, if you are reading this, get your shit together so I can continue to hold the Phillies’ Championships over Mets fans’ heads for another year!

"Can Jimmy Rollins be the equivalent to a governmental bailout for the Philadelphia Phillies? If you answered no, stop reading and know you have little to no sports knowledge. -Just for writing that, you prove that you have little sports knowledge. That's just a cocky, stupid thing to say, written by a very cocky and very stupid author. "If T.A.R.P could manifest itself in the form of a baseball player, it would be re-incarnate as Jimmy Rollins. That does not make sense. Your article lacks continuity. Dumbass.

I understand from reading other comments that this is your first column, so I'll try not to be too harsh....but, this column is entirely conjecture, and little fact. If you're going to make the case about Rollins, at least give us some numbers...maybe like, here's how the phillies do when Rollins does well vs. how the phillies do when Rollins does poorly. As is, this article is just one big unsupported opinion, and a bogus one at that. Rollins sucks this year...but the rest of the batters have more than made up for it. What actually needs a bailout is the Phillies pitching staff, both starters and relievers. Your opinion is inane. The Phils will have the ability to win even if JRoll continues at his current production level. But even if JRoll gets hot, the Phils stand no chance unless their pitching staff performs remarkably better. Try again. I understand you just published an article for the sake of publishing your first article and being read...but before you opine again, make sure the opinion actually makes some sense.

Hank, how nice that your mommy and daddy came to your defense.

I think that B-Dub just doesn't want the competition from anybody else writing on the Phillies! So therefore he shows his true personality and tries to drive the guy off the site with his rude and snide remarks and insults. Don't let that stop your Hank! Keep on writing!

B-Dub, I think you're being a little to critical. He makes good points and has a unique, amusing style, even if it's a little rough around the edges. Overall very enjoyable. Nice work.

Nice analogy, I think the article was a great depicition of the Phillies and their current situation. Also, a little humor and modern writing never hurt anyone. In fact, it is preferred. Good first article!

If its any consolation, its very apparent you take yourself way too seriously.

Hank I could take a dump on a keyboard and produce better written stuff than this. There is barely a sentence in the whole thing that doesn't mangle every rule of writing known to man. Is that last paragraph even the English language? If your writing "style" represents the future of our country, then our teachers have failed the youth of America. This makes me sad.

If the only issue you have with my article is something I wrote in parenthesis, get a life old man. Focus on your own work, not mine.

Hank you need to read a REAL writer's thoughts on Philadelphia sports before you come on here. I'm not sure what's worse, your butchery of the English language or you lack of knowledge when it comes to players like Peavy. He's out for a few months and if you read my stellar article on his home / road splits you would know that you don't want him outside of Petco.
