No Losers in Longest Match
Written by GiantYankeeFan, Friday June 25 2010
After 11 hours and 5 minutes of tennis, over 3xs the length of a decent marathon time, John Isner came out a victor over Nicolas Mahut… but really, both were winners because the match finally ended.
One day later, an injured and tired Isner lost his next match after the epic in a mere 1 hour, 14 minutes. The five games won by Isner were the fewest by a male player at Wimbledon this week. The level of exhaustion was such that it’s amazing that Isner even made it back to the court in the first place.
Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands was lucky enough to play the living corpse and advance with ease and quickness that is not often seen at this level of tennis. Mahut and Isner now get to fully recover and the unranked Bakker will see if he can ride is luck and rest onward. See, everybody wins!
