No Amare, No Problem

Happy New Year's folks.
Yesterday was a good win for the Knickerbockers as they defeated the Sacramento Kings 114 - 92. In his first NBA start, Josh Harrellson (14 pts, 12 rebs) was hot from downtown. Tyson Chandler (22 pts, 7 rebs, 3 blks) had a very solid game and was great with the pick and roll. The ball was being passed around which allowed Carmelo Anthony to get a well deserved 23 pts. The back court finally had a productive game as Fields had 21 pts and Douglass had 17 pts to go along with 8 assist. All of this was done without All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire who was out with an ankle sprain.
The Knicks looked well against a young non-disciplined Kings team in the second half. The first half consisted of good shooting by the Knicks. Against a good team, the offense of 5 players on the perimeter is not going to work. Against a good team, cross court passes are going to get stolen. The second half was a different story. The Knicks used the pick and roll to perfection. Chandler was constantly going to the line (10 for 10 from the charity strip). The Knicks had an inside presence and it opened up lanes for Anthony so that he could drive and get the foul (11 of 13 from the line). The entire game consisted of solid defense. The Knicks held Sacramento to under 35% shooting from the field.
The Knicks are going to be great when Baron Davis comes back. He will orchestrate the offense to a solid level. With Davis in the starting line up, Douglass can be the scoring beast he is off the bench. There are three key questions that will decide the Knicks fate:
1. How long will it take for Stoudemire to get used to having the middle clogged up with Tyson Chandler in there?
2. How will Baron Davis be when he gets in the starting line up?
3. Can the Knicks play defense for 4 quarters?
I want the answers to be: (1) Not long at all (2) Like the All-Star he is, and (3) Yes. Let's see what happens. Till next time my good people...and keep those resolutions going.
