NFL, Monday Nightmares
Written by Carl Henegan, Tuesday October 27 2009
Ok we had to see it coming. This season we have watched some of the best Monday night football games in history. I am talking about edge of your seat competitive NFL action. Alas everything has to balance out sooner or later. So just in time for Halloween, the “later“, arrived at the Philadelphia and Washington Monday nightmare match up.
The game-or lack there of-showcased the worst of what the NFL has to offer its fans. Fumbles, dropped passes, turnovers, missed routs, need I go on here? Anything bad that could happen, did indeed occur. This performance was just the cheery on the top of a Sunday filled with lop sided games. Even with my love for the game, I really could have done without that debacle. The second half was like watching a person getting a root canal with no anesthesia, painful….very painful. Still I forced feed myself through it and took it like a man. I was beyond relieved when it was over. One thing was apparent to me, and I am sure that coach Jim Zorn privately reveled in the notion. It was not the play calling that has driven the nation’s capital NFL franchise into the abyss. As a mater of a fact I think a lot of the talk show experts will have to find a new punching bag other then Sherman Lewis. The plays he called were very good, just not executed. Speaking of Sherman Lewis’ recent past time, that was a topic I never quite understood anyway. Why did it matter what he was doing before returning to the NFL. We all were doing something before we began or re-entered into doing what we love. Wasn’t Kurt Warner bagging groceries? He has become quite the catch-or in this case thrower- for the Arizona franchise. Well I knew that I couldn’t expect to be fully entertained every Monday night, but the Washington and Philly game was quite the opposite end of the spectrum. Philly is no Indianapolis colts but Washington has issues too numerous to even count. I believe it was Ross Perot who said it best. “The trick to success, is to hire someone smarter then you.” I think Mr. Snyder is going to have abort the hands on approach and take a page from Perot’s book. My suggestion is to hang out at the retirement facilities. Hey, it worked out pretty good the first time. Carl Henegan is the owner and operator of IGB.
