New Look Rockets

I have been a die hard Rockets fan since i was a little kid. My fondest memories from my childhood were watching the Rockets win back to back championships.

Those teams were built around team basketball, good coaching, and a guy name Olajuwon. This year's Rockets team reminds me of those championship teams of the past.

This Rockets team may not have any proven stars like Olajuwon or Drexler but this team does have that "team first" mentality. I will admit that when I heard Yao Ming is out for the season with a foot injury and the uncertainty surronding Tracy McGrady and his two microfracture surgeries and Ron Artest jumping ship to the Lakers that the Rockets chances at the playoffs was over.

I went to the first home game on halloween and boy did the Rockets prove me wrong. Trevor Ariza looked like a bargain with his 33 points. Aaron Brooks looks like he understands the offense and distributed the ball well. Luis Scola and Chuck Hayes played their usual scrappy style of basketball and did a good job guarding Greg Oden and LaMarcus Alridge. The bench was solid with good contributions from Kyle Lowry and Carl Landry. The leadership, toughness, and defense of Shane Battier is always going to be there as it was on halloween.

What opening night showed me was that you can never count out these resilient group of guys. Daryl Morey and Rick Adelman know what they are doing and have not given up on making the playoffs and winning a championship. This Rockets team will surprise many people this season. Houstonians should be proud to have a team like this, who knows, maybe it will be a repeat of that 93-94 team.
