NASCAR's Wednesdiversions

Another Wednesday is upon us, and that can only mean another rousing dose of Wednesdiversions. Only a few more days until Bristol, and after a week off from racing, I think every race fan out there is pumped for short-track racing this coming weekend. That week off seemed miserable, and trying to find something to watch this past Sunday was a not a success. Luckily, winter finally relented around here over the past few days, and I remember what the ground looks like now.
On a personal note, an anniversary has rolled around here on Playerpress NASCAR. I have been with Playerpress.com/Hotpass.tv for a year as of this past Friday! Working for the great people at Playerpress for a year has been such a good experience, allowing me to write about a great subject that has constant action. I have also been able to communicate with an ever-growing audience and talk with some great people. Thanks again, Playerpress, and I am looking forward to the future!
And with that, let me start with the links.
To begin, Furniture Row Racing has decided to take a look at the schedule they put together before the 2009 season and re-evaluate where they want to run. The team has decided to drop the road course races they wanted to run at Sonoma and The Glen and replace them by running at Darlington in May, Pocono in June and Indianapolis in July. And these may not be the only revamps to the schedule, depending on how Regan Smith does through the season.

Anheuser-Busch decided to drop their sponsorship of NHRA racing recently. This is, as far as I know, the first big sponsorship they are dumping after being acquired by InBev in 2008. But, Kasey Kahne thinks that Anheuser-Busch InBev (the new company name) will continue to sponsor the number 9 for the foreseeable future. Would it not be strange to have no Budweiser car out there every week?
Today was Jeff Burton’s big day on television. Yes, while he is on TV every Sunday, today found him on General Hospital. According to this site a couple of the characters meet Jeff Burton at a bar, and the fancy surgeon character is a huge Burton fan. Then, Burton leaves the bar with a young lady and he drives a car very fast. I can only imagine it was a masterpiece of television. Luckily, Jay Busbee put up the video. Next up, Michael Waltrip on My Name Is Earl, which will air on April 30th.
As those of you that read here know, I am a big fan of Twitter and I talk about it whenever I get a chance. So, here is another article that ties NASCAR and Twitter together. The article mentions Max Papis, who has quite the obsession with Twitter himself. I follow him and can honestly say that he has some very interesting, and sometimes very funny, posts through his account.

Speaking of combinations of things that I love that are completely awesome, take one part NASCAR and combine one part Nature Boy Ric Flair, and you get this! What fan could possibly not love that poster for the All-Star race? It is spectacular. Very old-school wrestling-style handbills rule.

The economy is rough all around, as I have discussed multiple times in the past. For this reason, most times when I come across any of the tracks giving deals on ticket prices or deals, I will put them up here. This past week, Talladega Superspeedway came up with a package that combines racing and golf, and you can see it right here.

Jerry Nadeau was in the news this week talking about his desire to come back to NASCAR in some capacity, but preferably as a driver. I wonder if Cartoon Network would jump back behind him? I used to LOVE that Cartoon Network car.
Ed Hinton’s article last week about Jeff Gordon and the idea of “Thinking about it” is a great read. If you did not see it last week, be sure to check it out here. This one has tons of quotes from Gordon and some really great information, not to mention, just a cool article.
My good friends at The Biff Files put together a list (with video!) of some of the best NASCAR commercials of all-time. There is some good entertainment here, along with some commercials about which I had completely forgotten. Thanks, ladies!
Another great article from ESPN, this time from David Newton, and all about Clint Bowyer. The story traces the changes that have been made to Bowyer’s team by the Childress organization in an effort to see if Bowyer could truly be a title contender. He is really proving himself this year and I could see him hoisting the championship trophy at the end of the Chase this year.
The newest version of Trading Paint by Jerry Bonkowski is up at Jerry’s website. As per usual, it is full of some good questions and great answers. There is the general two-sides of Dale Jr. talk, some Digger bashing and other fun things.
Good news…Marcos Ambrose is not angry at NASCAR about penalizing his crew member for the tire incident at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It is good that Ambrose is not angry at NASCAR, as even he realized he did not have a leg to stand on with this issue.
Bobby Labonte will join his brother Terry as an inductee to the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame. Bobby Labonte will be inducted this year, while his brother Terry was inducted back in 2003. Other members include A.J. Foyt, Lee Shepherd and Mark Martin.
Finally, Denny Hamlin will be hosting his now annual charity event in Virginia this year on April 30th that benefits the Denny Hamlin Foundation. The event, which is “175-lap Limited Late Model race” will feature Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano, and you can read about it here.
Thanks for reading, and thanks to the new readers out there!

I can honestly say I never watched General Hospital, but I can honestly say that Jeff Burton looks quite uncomfortable.

I used to watch General Hospital back in high school. Strangely it still seems exactly the same. Still, Jeff Burton looks very uncomfortable.
