Mock Draft v2.0
Written by RandolphC, Monday April 12 2010
1. St. Louis Rams – QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
Bradford’s gamble paid off as he aced his personal workout. The Rams say they won’t make a decision on Bradford until they work him out just days before the draft, but they’re probably 98 percent sure right now.
2. Detroit Lions – DT Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska
A player with a non-stop motor goes to the Motor City to lead a defensive turnaround.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DT Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma
TB won’t be disappointed no matter who is left between the top DTs.
4. Washington Redskins – OT Russell Okung, Oklahoma State
With Donovan McNabb in place as the new starting quarterback, ensuring a safe work environment is the next objective.
5. Kansas City Chiefs – S Eric Berry, Tennessee
The defense needs a complete overhaul. If Berry is as good as advertised as an Ed Reed-like player, he will make an impact in the pass and run defense.
6. Seattle Seahawks – OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma
QB Charlie Whitehurst might become the next Rob Johnson if he can’t stay upright. Williams will be Whitehurst’s bodyguard.
7. Cleveland Browns – QB Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame
Even though the Browns still have a bad taste in their mouth from the last Fighting Irish QB they drafted (Brady Quinn in 2007), they don’t hold it against Clausen.
8. Oakland Raiders – OT Brian Bulaga, Iowa
A terrible offensive line is down a man with Cornell Green leaving as a free agent. The Raiders really hope Bulaga isn’t a Robert Gallery sequel.
9. Buffalo Bills – OT Bruce Campbell, Maryland
Already down three O-linemen in free agency with one OT signed, Buffalo’s QBs might sue the team if something isn’t done to rebuild the line.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech
Third DE in three years for the Jags since Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves combined for two sacks last year.
11. Denver Broncos – LB Rolando McClain, Alabama
This could change to a WR if Brandon Marshall is traded. Considering how the run defense faltered down the stretch, they need help in the middle.
12. Miami Dolphins - LB Sergio Kindle, Texas
Joey Porter is gone and Jason Taylor is being wooed by division rival the New York Jets. Kindle and Cameron Wake will be the future of the Dolphins’ pass rush.
13. San Francisco 49ers – S Earl Thomas, Texas
Thomas won’t be the physical force Ronnie Lott was for the Niners back in the ‘80s, but he can be a difference-maker for the secondary.
14. Seattle Seahawks – RB C.J. Spiller, Clemson
The offense has gone through a lot of changes through free agency. Seattle’s run game hasn’t been the same since Shaun Alexander declined.
15. New York Giants – CB Joe Haden, Florida
The pass rush can’t hide the secondary forever. Corey Webster and Terrell Thomas are OK, but neither have the shut down potential that Haden has.
16. Tennessee Titans – DE Jason Pierre-Paul, South Florida
Pierre-Paul is another physical freak, evidenced by the video of his 13 straight back-flips. Is it a coincidence he wore 90 in college like the professional Freak Jevon Kearse?
17. San Francisco 49ers – C Maurkice Pouncey, Florida
Pouncey’s versatility to play either center or guard appeals to the Niners.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers – CB Kyle Wilson, Boise State
The secondary had just 10 interceptions last year. More importantly, Pittsburgh has a deal with a division that throws the ball around.
19. Atlanta Falcons – DE Brandon Graham, Michigan
They’re considering moving former first rounder DE Jamal Anderson to tackle. Graham and his non-stop hustle makes the move possible.
20. Houston Texans – CB Patrick Robinson, Florida State
The Texans have a big pair of cleats to fill with Dunta Robinson leaving as a free agent. Houston hopes Robinson is up to the task.
21. Cincinnati Bengals – DT Dan Williams, Tennessee
It finally came together on the defense for head coach Marvin Lewis. Now he tries to make Cincy’s D elite by adding Williams.
22. New England Patriots – DT Jared Odrick, Penn State
Gone are Richard Seymour and Jarvis Green in the last two years, with Damione Lewis signed for one year. The Pats continue to turn over an aging defensive line.
23. Green Bay Packers – OG Mike Iupati, Idaho
When the offensive line gives up 51 sacks, it’s a little unfair to pinpoint the deficiency. Iupati could learn tackle, making him more valuable to the Packers.
24. Philadelphia Eagles – LB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri
LB depth killed Philly’s defense last year as they had to bring Jeremiah Trotter back to help out. The Eagles won’t get caught short-handed again.
25. Baltimore Ravens – WR Dez Bryant, Oklahoma
If Bryant has character issues, GM Ozzie Newsome thinks those would disappear when he gets into the veteran Baltimore locker room.
26. Arizona Cardinals – DT Brian Price, UCLA
‘Zona has been strip-mined this off-season. But one of the bigger losses, DE Bertrand Berry, was due to retirement.
27. Dallas Cowboys – WR Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech
Roy Williams, already demoted, could find himself looking for a job.
28. San Diego Chargers – RB Ryan Mathews, Fresno State
The Chargers already said good-bye to LaDanian Tomlinson. If they keep Darren Sproles, SD needs a full-time ball carrier.
29. New York Jets – DE Jerry Hughes, TCU
The defense is just missing a sack artist. Vernon Gholston hasn’t been it and his time is running out.
30. Minnesota Vikings – S Taylor Mays, USC
Mays will take a similar route to starter like Carolina’s Thomas Davis. The college safety will be converted to outside linebacker.
31. Indianapolis Colts – DT LaMarr Houston, Texas
Indy already added bulk to the offensive line through free agency. Adding more beef to the D-line is next.
32. New Orleans Saints – LB Dekoda Watson, Florida State
Enough isn’t being made out of the loss of Scott Fujita. But the Saints realize they lost an important part of the defense. The athletic and heady Watson could contribute quickly.
Out of the first round
Carolina – The Panthers have been decimated in free agency. QB Matt Moore has a shot to become the face of the franchise, but he won’t go unchallenged, as ‘Lina should draft a QB to put pressure on Moore. The defense lost five starters and must replenish the losses.
Chicago – The Bears were big spenders in free agency, but money doesn’t always buy wins. None of the free agent purchases were for the offensive line, the biggest obstacle towards offensive success. Adding a ballhawk at cornerback could really help.

I think Colt McCoy is very underrated. I think it would be wide for Detroit to take an OT and McCoy to start the second round. It was a good move when San Diego traded the first overall and then selected Tomlinson and Drew Brees. I've been lucky. The recent trades haven't affected my first round projections so far. Let's see if that's still the case with my third and final mock. Hopefully it will be ready by Monday. Thanks for checkin' mine out, Flash.

The Lions should try to trade down for 2 picks, then take the best OL available, in my opinion. They're sure to screw it up no matter what. The Raiders mught grab Campbell cuz they're idiots. I think the Bills will grab Clausen at No. 9; the Browns have too many needs and still have Delhomme as a starter. But good call Randy, they might want to season Clausen behind Delhomme.

My reasoning is when you're at the top of the draft, you don't draft by need. You take the best player available. Suh and McCoy are rare prospects. Okung could be a franchise OT, but is rated just below the two DTs. I won't argue your assessment of Campbell, but I can't see several linemen leap-frogging Campbell. Some coach will think they can get his talent out of him. It's not like the Bills have been shrewd talent evaluators over the years.

Still don't see why the Lions would draft a DT when they desperately need an OT to protect their franchise QB and open holes for a previously nonexistent running game. Also you have Bruce Campbell way too high, he's just a workout warrior.
