The good guy finally comes out on top!

Phil Mickelson won on his third career green jacket yesterday at Augusta National finishing his championship round with a birdie on the 18th hole.  It seemed like only a few short months ago that Phil declared he was going to take some time away from the game to help care for his wife and mother who go the dreaded news that they were diagnosed with breast cancer.

With five golfers breathing down his neck, Phil was able to hold them all back with truely magical play.  Phil hit the shot of is golfing life on the 13th hole that made you cheer for him for the final two hours of televison coverage.  Good play with his irons helped him correct many bad tee shots that gave us all flashbacks to his quest for the US Open at Winged Foot a few years back.  Going for the green and not holding back gave him the confidence to finish and win this tournament.

Dubbed "Lefty" on the golf course, Phil finished in style.  After hugging his long time caddie Jim "Bones" McKay on the 18th green Lefty was making his way to the official scoring booth.  On the way to officially record his score with the officials at Augusta National his wife and kids were waiting for him to share the moment.   With a long embrace and a few tears the golfing community got a glimpse of a true champion sharing the moment with his wife and family.

Runner up Lee Westwood was gracious in defeat during the green jacket ceremony.  With the golfing community looking on in full attention Westwood was quoted by the CBS broadcaster "Phil is a champion that has had alot going on the past several months, he deserved a few breaks out there."

For the television viewer this was the most exiting round of golf to witness since the 2003 US Open.  There was Mickelson winning his third green jacket and the start of the downfall of the shameful Tiger Woods.  Tiger will now officially begin his life after rehab as a loser.  He ended his four month self imposed exile by returning to compete in the Masters.

Absent were his wife and kids.  Not only did Tiger shame himself and his family, a new allegation was made public that he had yet another extramarital affair with his 21 year old neighbor from Windemere Florida.  This affair is different in his other dozen or so alleged affairs, this one was close to home.  If true, his wife Elin must be on the family yacht or jet trying to get as far away from Tiger as possible!

With the season's first major tournament completed it will be a fun competitive season of PGA golf.
