#4 on the New York Rangers makes big impression.

Michael Del Zotto is the 2nd youngest defenseman in team history and the youngest defenseman in franchise history to play on opening night. He is off to a great start in his rookie season with 3 goals and 5 assists in his first 8 games. His special offensive talents make him an asset on the Rangers top power play unit. Let's look @ how he got here.

In the 2005-06 season, he played with Steven Stamkos for the Markham Waxers and attended St. Andrews College in Aurora, Ontario. He scored 30 goals and 90 assists in 73 games.

The Oshawa Generals made him the 2nd pick behind Stamkos in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Draft. He was a teammate of John Tavares for 3 seasons. He was named to the 2007 OHL All-Star game as a 16 year old. In 64 games he registered 10 goals and 47 assists.

In his 2nd season with the Generals, he finished 3rd in defenseman scoring with 63 points (16-47) in 64 games. He was drafted 20th overall by the New York Rangers.

Midway through his third season in the OHL he was traded with John Tavares to the London Knights to help them battle the Windsor Spitfires for 1st place in the OHL. He had 13 goals and 50 assists in 62 games. I personally went to a Generals game against the Saginaw Spirit to watch John Tavares. What I saw that night was Del Zotto was the best player on the ice that night.

On hockeysfuture.com Del Zotto was rated a 7.5 C which means he has decent potential to be a 3rd or 4th defenseman in the NHL.  Recently on October 17 he had his own highlight reel on Coach's Corner with Don Cherry.
