Miami Is Scandalous

Miami is Scandalous? No Kidding?
I consider myself one of the biggest Miami Hurricanes fans and even I am not surprised by the recent scandal. I’ve faced stiff opposition when I have told people I am a ‘canes fan. I used to have the “Catholics versus Convicts” t-shirt promoting a game between Miami and Notre Dame. I had the issue of Sports Illustrated with the green cover that read, “Why Miami Should Drop Its Football Program.”
For me Miami is at the end of two extremes. On one extreme is my love for the Chicago Cubs and their bipolar organization. So if I want to see a winning team I have to go to the other extreme. Not to say the Bulls and the Bears or the Blackhawks aren’t worthy but within the last ten years only the ‘Hawks and the Hurricanes have won Championships.
As a fan of the ‘Canes I am no fool. I realize just who I’d given my support to. In my mind one of the most exciting college football programs in the past twenty years. My friends who are also Hurricane fans feel the same way. I am not surprised by the amount of players who were involved. This is like the revelation of how many of our beloved baseball players were using steroids. No real surprises. I wonder what took them so long to figure this all out. Did it really have to take a bitter criminal’s confession to bring all of this to light? I mean come on; there was talk that former players used to carry guns on campus.
Miami wont be the last athletic program that will be infiltrated by boosters or agents. People just trying to make themselves look cool to athletes who can see right through them. Most of the time the individual is caught by the authorities for doing things such as money laundering and securities violations, the players who were supposedly his friends are already in the pros. This guy is just a memory.
