Mets are a Disaster
Written by Terp Fan, Tuesday April 13 2010
After a crushing defeat on Sunday afternoon, NY Mets manager Jerry Manuel stated that his team was "unprepared." He also stated his team lacked enthusiasm and was not ready to face Washington Nationals starting pitcher and former teammate of last year Livan Hernandez.
These are two unacceptable statements from a manager only six games into a long, grueling season. Mets fans do not want to hear that coming from their manager in early April. With Omar Minaya sitting quietly in his office it makes all Mets fans wonder when the Wilpon family will finally pull the trigger and fire both of them. Lets add up the mistakes.
First, Minaya set the team up for failure when he did not allow Willie Randolph to bring in his own staff. Instead he brought his baseball staff to work with Randolph. Hiring Jerry Manuel as manager who was Randolph's bench coach tells you that Manuel was Minaya's contract. Mets management should have given Willie a chance to succed. Mets fans should note that Randolph could not have anticipated a two strike curveball would make Carlos Beltrans knees buckle. Beltran is currently on the DL with a sore knee. His current knee injury began for him in that Cardinal NLCS game a few years back.
Second, Minaya has destroyed the team with his poor free agent signings and his lack of building talent in the Mets farm system. Nobody gets exited talking about the Mets future or about any of their prospects. He re-signed Carlos Delgado last year after a miserable 2008 season. Met fans had to read articles that Minaya was scouting Carlos once again this past winter while he played winter ball in his native Puerto Rico. This after another terrible hitting performance in 2009 not to mention his early season departure due to injury. Minaya wisley did not re-sign him. Delgado will be able to retire and live a nice life with the money he took from the Mets. Good riddance Carlos.
Third, Manuel and Minaya want Met fans to believe that Mike Jacobs is an adequate replacement for Daniel Murphy. Both players are not major league first basmen, and they would both be lucky to hot 25 home runs between them this season. All baseball fans know you have to a first basemen that can hit for power and drive in runs. There is also no major league backup for fragile Jose Reyes. Reyes has been on the DL for more games that he has played. There are also rumors that if Reyes doesn't get his way that he will throw a hissy fit, setting a negative tone in the clubhouse.
Fourth, Minaya traded away Brian Bannister and Ryan Church. Bannister was the best young arm in the Mets system when they brought him up a few years ago. He had a promising start and then out of nowhere Minaya trades him for nothing. Ryan Church was also dumped last year to inner division rival the Atlanta Braves. Church was their best young hitting prospect and he was let go. Bobby Cox decided he would rather have Church in right field rather than current Mets rightfielder Jeff Francour. Bobby Cox is a future hall of fame manager with a spot reserved for him in Cooperstown. Manuel and Art Howe will both be watching his induction ceremony.
Fifth, The Mets aren't ready to play ball after six weeks of spring training and having played six regular season games. The team lacked emotion and seemed like they would rather be home having a barbecue instead of playing on the best home field in the major leagues.
I can go on and on.
The Mets get ready to face the Colorado Rockies for a three game series beginning today. They will throw John Maine, Jon Niese, and Mike Pelfrey in the three games. These three guys don't look like they will have a promising year in 2010. I predict that all three of these starters will not be with the Mets next year on Opening Day. Don't kid yourself Mr. Wilpon, you have a lame, lifeless squad going into today's game.
When I walk through the gates of Citifield I get goosebumps going through the Jackie Robinson Rotunda on my way to watch batting practice. It is clear the Wilpons built the superior stadium in NY for Mets fans. I only hope they can now find a new general manager, new players, and a new baseball guy manager that all share that same passion.
Time to pull the trigger and fire Manual and Minaya now.

Hi Kerri, I am a very frustrated Mets fan. No excuse for keeping Minaya and Manuel. I haven't even started my rant on the Oliver Perez re-signing last off season. Sad fact is Ryan Church was an excellent hitting prospect. Francouer is good but not as good or promising as Church in my opinion. Reyes is a crybaby who has played his best baseball. He is injury prone and never will live up to his so called potential. Pelfry is soft, Jacobs and Murphy are horrible, the list keeps growing... The starting pitching and bullpen are both VERY weak. We will be battling the Nats for last place this year. I hope Jeff Wilpon makes a statement and turns it around fast. I will continue my rants against Wilpon and the Mets until they make a move.

Sorry Kerri, I had him confused with the Mets huge offseason free agent signing Jason Bay, who has ZERO HRs and just got his first RBI last night. And if you think I know nothing about the Mets, then how come everything I've been saying about them for the last three years is correct?

So now I have two people who have no clue what they're talking about. Franceour has two homeruns and six RBI. B-Dub, why don't you find something better to do than trash the Mets? Why don't you go be happy about the Phillies start since you clearly know nothing about the Mets.

Yeah Francouer is so great he hasn't hit a single HR or had a single RBI yet this season. Kerri, the writer said he goes to Mets games, so he must be a fan. Who else would watch those choking dogs? I just love the fact that I am being proven right in my trashing of the Mets a whole week into the season. "Last Place Mets.....Last Place Mets.....Last Place Mets."

What are you talking about? Church is not a 'young hitting prospect,' and they received Jeff Francoeur in that deal who is the only good hitter on the team right now. Secondly, Reyes was on the DL last year, but he had played almost complete seasons 2005-2008. I don't agree with much that Mets management does, but you clearly are not a Mets fan and do not have your facts straight.
