Merry Christ-Knicks

A new era has begun in NYC. The excitement for Knickerbockers' basketball is back. My blood is once again the color it should be...blue and orange. Today's game was a great start to the new regime but there is still a long way to go before I dare say the "C" word (championship of course). While they won, they also blew a big lead and looked horrible coming out of the half.

Amare Stoudemire (21 pts, 6 Rbs) and Carmelo Anthony (37 Pts, 8 Rbs) did what superstars do. They carried their team to a well-deserved victory. They are not going to be able to play at that level in this year's shortened compact season. The Knicks need a legitimate consistent third option ASAP. Toney Douglass (19 pts) is not the answer. Baron Davis is. Douglass is going to be great as their 6th / 7th man. It is clear that he can score in the league. It is also clear that at this point in Douglass' young career, he cannot run the point. The PG should never have more shots than the dynamic duo of Stoudemire and Anthony.

Iman Shumpert had a nice debut (11 Pts, 4 Rbs, 3 TOs). As expected, Shumpert was erratic (3 of 13 shooting) but you have to love his energy and aggressiveness. You also have to love the fact that he went 5 for 5 from the charity stripe (a lost art in the NBA). Unfortunately for Shumpert, he injured his knee during the game. According to Sports Illustrated and other sources, he will miss 2-4 weeks.

It should not be overlooked that one of the biggest reasons the Knicks were victorious was due to the tenacity of new addition Tyson Chandler (6 Blocks) and great team defense towards the end of the game.

The Knicks play the Golden State Warriors on Wed. Road games are never easy but Golden State is going to be a victim of a new rookie coach (former Knick Mark Jackson) with no time to work with a roster that has a lot of new faces. That's not our problem. Yes...I am a part of the team. I am the spiritual 6th man and unofficial reporter for my beloved New York Knicks.
