Mattison to unleash "Mount" Cody as pass-rusher

Throughout the draft process, Terrence "Mount" Cody was viewed as a superior run-stopping nose tackle, but most draft pundits also said he was too big and didn't have the stamina or pass rushing prowess to be a 3-down player in the NFL. But as the Baltimore Ravens' spring OTA's come to a close, it has come apparent that defensive coordinator, Greg Mattison, believes that the second-round selection can become a force on passing downs.

“[On third downs] we will always have our best players on the field in pass-rush situations,” Ravens Defensive Coordinator Greg Mattison told CBSSports.com’s Clark Judge. “But this isn’t going to be one of those deals where you look out there and say, ‘Oh, no, Terrence Cody is out there; we can’t do this.’ We don’t feel that way at all.”

Cody has shown an impressive improvement of quickness for a man of his bulk, which could be directly linked to his continued weight loss.

Since tipping the scales at a mind-blowing 370 pounds, Cody has since lost over 20 pounds due in large part to his new diet and increased workout regimen.

As the heir-apparent to Baltimore's long-time beloved nose tackle Kelly Gregg, Cody has so far shown signs that he can, in fact, take over when Gregg decides to hang up the cleats (which could be coming quite soon). Although, Cody also projects to add to the defensive line rotation this upcoming season, and if the raves coming out of OTA's so far are true, "Mount" Cody could help the already stout Ravens defensive front take flight.

I am excited about this kid. He shows potential (as you have already stated) and work ethic is a key ingredient for success. Nice report on Cody and I hope he turns into the phenom we see in him.
