In statement released th is afternoon, Manny says he won't appeal suspension
It's truly a sad thing that in the story of Manny Ramirez's 50 game suspension for the use of a banned substance, in this day and age neither the suspension or use of the substance are the amazing piece of the story. In his statement today through the MLB Player's Association, Manny says that the positive test is a result of a prescribed drug from a physician in Florida. This is a story many immediately don't believe for many obvious reasons, however it leads to a few questions.
A) Presuming this story is true, what exactly was this mysterious health problem Manny had to see the physician over? How does this medical problem impact his career?
B) Presuming he's lying about the doctor, he must have been using actual steroids correct? Is he hoping that with this story, noone will be in a position to dispute that it wasn't a steroid and that will be that?
The fact he isn't fighting this suspension shows me that he doesn't want at least one of these questions to be investigated further. Unfortunately with the way information moves these days, it's likely the truth will come to light before his suspension is up. One thing's for sure, either he's lying about the fact that he didn't know the substance was banned (which is ridiculous given the current culture of the MLB) or he's as stupid as I've thought he was since his days here in Boston. Either way, I'd say that this solidifies the thought that the Red Sox made one of the best decisions of my lifetime in acquiring Jason Bay for Manny Ramirez.
