Indy Racing League (IRL)

The Indy Racing League (IRL) is an American-based open-wheel auto racing sanctioning body.

 

The IRL sanctions three racing series, the premier IZOD IndyCar Series (ICS), whose centerpiece and main race is the Indianapolis 500, and developmental series Firestone Indy Lights and the U.S. F2000 National Championship.

 

The 2010 Izod IndyCar Series season is the 15th season of the IndyCar Series, and is the 99th recognized season of top-level American open wheel racing.

 

It is the series' first season of six planned seasons under Izod title sponsorship. On November 5, 2009, a multi-million dollar deal which was announced and its premier event will be the 94th Indianapolis 500, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 30.

 

The final 2010 schedule was announced on July 31, 2009, with revisions announced on August 26, 2009. New events include the new Alabama Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park, and included the season-opening 300 mile street race in São Paulo, Brazil on March 14. Australian driver Will Power won that rain shortened race this season driving for Team Penske.

 

Richmond will not be returning, and Milwaukee is no longer on the schedule due to ongoing concerns with outstanding sanctioning fees owed.

 

All IRL races will be broadcast on ABC or Versus in HD in the United States.
