Hawks Rumored To Pick Up Mavs Assistant Casey
Written by Crystal Carroll, Sunday May 16 2010
Hawks fans looking for comfort from the recent exit from the playoffs might have found solace with the release of head coach Mike Woodson, however the search for a new fit for a new beginning can always be a strain especially when 6 seasons have passed with such ups and downs on the court.
But the waiting game could soon be over if rumors that Dallas Mavericks Assistant Coach Dwane Casey become fact. So what do we know to be true in this rumor mill of hope for the Hawks? 1) Casey interviewed with the Hawks following their exit and the news release of their parting of ways with head coach. 2)Casey is no stranger to the head coaching scenarios, having been a head coach before coaching for the Minnesota Timberwolves replacing Kevin McHale during the 2005-06 season. 3) A lot has changed since Casey's head coaching debut with the T-Wolves.
During Casey's time with the Wolves he held out only a season and half with a record of 53-69. He was later fired and picked up by the Dallas Mavericks where he has fostered his talents on the bench and in the locker room behind a roster rich of talent.
So will this be the right fit for the troubled Hawks and Casey's second chance on the court? Possibly according to local media in the Atlanta area it seems more of a definite than not. So Mavs might be searching for a new assistant while the Hawks begin their hopes of rebuilding on the court throughout a summer of changes.
