Getting It Wrong, When Right Is The Only Choice.

It seems common these days for motorsport sanctioning bodies to make decisions that leave their fans absolutely puzzled. This week is one that is no different than the rest in the world of Nascar and Indy Car racing.

Nascar could have let a great rivalry develop between Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch, however they decided that the best course of action was to fine both drivers and put them on probation for four weeks. I understand that they cannot have drivers taking shots at eachother with the speeds that will be driven at the venues driven over the next four weeks, but more discretion could have been given to allow the drivers to get the excitement flared up.

The real crime of the whole incident surrounding the two drivers is that poor Regan Smith got the spot light stolen from him. Regan can flat out drive a race car, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name up for a top tier ride in the coming years. Red Bull wouldn’t be too much of a stretch in my opinion.

Indy Car has released two mock ups of their road and oval 2012 Dallara chassis, and in my opinion they couldn’t have missed the mark more than they have. Fans were excited to see prospective aero differences and differentiation between cars like we are accustomed to seeing in Formula one, however we ended up with this pair of monstrosities. I can only hope that the aero kit manufacturers will create sleeker looking vehicles than this.
