Frenchy Makes a Church-like Start
Written by Rory, Thursday July 30 2009
Jeff Francouer has started his Met career in Ryan Church like fashion. As Mets fans can recall Church started his Met career off with a bang having a great April and continuing to play well until a concussion or two slowed him. Frenchy has started off in a similar way.
Excluding today's 7-0 win over the Rockies (in which Frenchy had an RBI), Francouer has hit .327 with 3 HRs and 16 RBIs in only 14 games. It is true he only have one walk but then again beggers can't be choosers. He has a wOBA of .357 which is about 30 points above league average. His BABIP is a little high at .326 so his BA should fall a bit but it should remain at a respectable level. He has played very well for the Mets so far and hopefully he can go back to the 2006-2007 Jeff Francouer. Despite Omar's inability to solve more than one problem at a time or have depth, he has been quite successful in finding the diamonds in the rough. Let's hope this is one of those moves.
P.S. Church is hitting only .222 with a .316 wOBA so far with the Braves.

I initially was against the Franny trade, because Ryan Church was one of the few Mets, that when stepping to the plate, I felt like we were going to get a hit. Frenchie has surpassed all expectations and is living up to the promise he once had, and doing a great job of making this more of a team. Omar is proving he is a great manager, because while player for player, the deal was essentially a wash, Church's conflict was with Jerry, and Omar gave in and got a guy Jerry would like. I would love to see Manuel fired because it took him half a season to stop batting Cora in the lead off or number 2 spot. However, Minaya, in an effort to save himself, is taking lemons and making lemonade for Jerry.

At first I didn't like the move because I've never been a Francouer fan and have always liked Church but it was a pretty smart move considering age and upside. I'm undecided on if they need a new GM. At times I love Omar and at others think he should be fired.

He has been a great addition both in the clubhouse and on the field. He has a much higher upside than Church; after all, the Nationals didn't see Ryan as an everyday player. I don't really care if he walks, as long as they're winning. Despite this, I think it's time for a new GM.
