Federer - Constant pressure to win
Written by Tennis Pro, Wednesday July 08 2009
Federer was just like "Water on a stone", and in the end walks away a winner!
What makes a great champion? Being able to excersise the championship control ALL the time. What it's like is water on a stone.
You know why the rocks in river bed are all smooth, and the small ones are round and perfect? Because of WEAR, and not just occasional wear, but CONSTANT wear, day in and day out, of that water running over them. That's where the saying "He's like water on a stone", comes from, he will wear you down with CONSTANT pressure, and in the end it's like take'n candy from a baby!
That's what Roger Federer does, and why he has the winning record he posts, and each time he has a Grand Slam trophy under his belt, he's going be harder to beat. Not to say if Nadel had been there things would have been different, but in the exchange between Roger and Andy, you could see this "Water on the stone" principal in action, it was an unrelenting pressure, with no emotion on Roger's face, no matter what the outcome of a point. That's the difference of a winner champion and a loser champion (2nd place) because when you're in the finals of Wimbledon you're a champion no matter who wins. Not to take anything away from Roddick, but on the scales of pressure, and concentration, in the end the "Fed" pushed the "Tennis teetertaughter" his way, just like water on a stone.
Keep your eye on the ball.
