When the Carroll Tigers’ Courtney Hawkins (2010 5A Championship MVP) launched a shot off of the Dell Diamond upper deck façade of the Outfield Pavilion some 460’ away vs the Clements Rangers, I knew it was going to be a special weekend for the Tigers. And special it was as the Tigers went on to defeat the Rangers in the semi final and capture the 2010 5A State Championship vs Klein in one of the most exciting finishes ever.

With the 2011 season upcoming the Tigers have the target firmly planted on their backs and will likely experience how difficult it will be defending their title right out of the gate. With that said, Coach Yeager and staff have to like their chances as they return the majority of their championship team from 2010 including Courtney Hawkins (5A Championship MVP, and Josh Cruz (5A All State). The Tigers also return incredible depth in pitching with Hawkins, Dumes, Cano, and Avila.

"We have a great nucleus of players returning from a very successful '10 campaign. Losing Blackmar and Hinojosa will be very tough on us as far as leadership is concerned. Our strong junior class will be looked upon to carry us until we can find a suitable replacement at 2nd base. I think our strength will be the same as last year, great defense, quality arms on the mound and timely hitting. We have had an outstanding fall as far as strength and speed gains are concerned. If that can translate onto the diamond I like our chances to make another run at region 4 and hopefully we can get lucky and play that last game in June for all the marbles.." - CC Carroll head Coach, Lee Yeager

Carroll has spent the majority of the fall in strength and conditioning workouts making tremendous strides in strength and team speed. Now all that’s left to do is duplicate that between the lines when the games start. Expect the Tigers to be in the mix in Region IV this season.
