Recap of Washington Capital hockey game.
The Caps have gotten off to a slow start with only 7 shots on goal during the 1st period. Tampa served three minor penalties, and the only chance the Capitals had to score was the Brooks Laich almost tap in during the Ryan Malone goaltender interference penalty. Tampa has been playing great defense so far.
They stick to the Capitals major goal scorers like glue. Semin produced a nice curl-and-drag move towards the end of the period, but just shot it wide. Ovechkin anticipated a Tampa pass and shot a rocket at goaltender Smith.
Semyon Varlamov has also made a few impressive saves. Both goalies have saved all of 14 shots combined. The 2nd period picked up as the 1st period left off, it was slow. Ovechkin had a nice shot on the wing, Smith left a heavy rebound, Semin got the puck and shot a slapper on a hard angle. Smith made an incredible save and robbed Semin.
Not to worry, the Caps would make it 1-0 soon enough. Mike Green takes a slashing penalty, but the Penalty Killers proved themselves by shutting it down.
Just seconds later, Semin makes a dead on pass for Ovechkin on a 2-1, He takes the shot, and beats Tampa goaltender. Semin takes a slashing penalty, and Tampa goes to another power play. Varlamov stands firm, and keeps the 1 goal lead for his team. Going back the other way, full strength, Tomas Fleischmann passes to Eric Fehr and he scores bolstering the Capitals lead to 2.
With 1 minute left, Lecavalier trips Ovie on the run and he goes to the box. Alex Ovechkin gets the tap in with one second left of the power play and 17 seconds left in the period. The Caps are up 3-0 at the end of the 2nd.
The 3rd period starts out full strength until two minutes in, Eric Fehr takes a penalty for tripping. Although the Bolts have had four power plays, the Capitals have held them to zero goals.
Nine minutes in, Mike Green gets elbowed in the eye, but no penalties were dolled out. Green was slow to get up, but retur
Just a minute later, Lecavalier takes another tripping penalty and the Caps look to add one more marker and make it 4-0.
The Tampa Penalty Killers shut down the power play, holding the Capitals to less than five shots on goal.
Downe, who burries Pothier triggers a full line brawl. Everyone on the Capital's line were going after Downe and Walker; everyone on the Lightning were going after Erskine and Fehr.
The score remains 3-0 for the Caps with 1:22 left. The final score is 3-0, Varlamov gets his second shut out of the season.
Congratulations to Matt Bradley who's wife just gave birth Henry Bradley, their first born child. Next game is Wednesday, December 9th against the Sabres, in Buffalo.
