Capitals Continue Through Canada

Leaving Vancouver with an L on their stat sheet, the Washington Capitals came out in Edmonton with a good start, they were winning faceoffs, blocking a decent amount of shots, and shooting. If the score wasn't an issue, the Caps should have been winning. Too bad the score does matter, and the Caps were down 2-0 at the end of the second period. Jeff Deslauriers was the key for the Oilers. He was making incredible saves and robbing the Caps every chance he got.

Capitals' coach Bruce Boudreau must have said the right thing to his team during the second intermission because Alex Ovechkin and his teammates came out rolling in the third. Ovie had a scrappy, garbage goal for his first marker and a beautiful slap shot that slid just through Deslauriers and the post. The Caps tied the game 2-2, Ovechkin bolstering his personal stats to 23 goals on the season.

It would be all Capitals from here. Knuble with a great pass to Tomas Fleischmann gets the Capitals third tally, taking the lead for the first time during the game. Then, Nicklas Backstrom models the great eight, and rips a shot from a hard angle past Edmonton goaltender, and into the net. The score is now 4-2, and that would end the scoring for the night.

The Oilers try to make a comeback in the last minute with six skaters on the ice, but solid Michal Neuvirth locks in the win for his team.

The Caps go on a bit of a break for the next few games. Their next game is on Wednesday, at the Verizon Center against the Buffalo Sabres.
