Boise State Left Out In Cold Again?
Written by gologan, Tuesday October 19 2010
One day it will dawn on the Boise State football team that maybe they should not fill their schedule with mid major teams. I as many others should, believe that they are as good as advertised. But when the National Title game is played unfortunately Boise State will not be in it.
I am a fan of mid major schools being in the Championship picture. I just think that if you want to be in that picture you should not fill your schedule with them. Everybody already knows that you can beat them. We also know that you can beat upper tier program as well after beating teams like Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in 2007. They beat a very good Texas Christian football team in the 2009 version of the Fiesta Bowl. They Beat Oregon last year at home in a game which an Oregon player punched a Boise State player and was suspended for much of the season.
It is a great move by Boise State to move into a tougher conference such as the Mountain West Conference adding more legitimacy to that conference where if they go undefeated again no one can claim that they are not worthy of playing in the National Title game. Perhaps it will be in 2012. Barring a loss by the current top ranked team in the BCS rankings, Oklahoma, The Broncos will have to sit and watch again as they are excluded from the National Title game and possibly play another version of the Fiesta Bowl.
While I have your attention why not restart the conversation of a playoff system in college football using the current bowl games as playoff games possibly making more money for those games through television and merchandising revenue? It seems the most logical to me since lower division conferences have a playoff system. Contracts notwithstanding it seems this is a chance for the old draconian system where one way or another a good team is screwed out of a chance to play in a game to prove that it is the best in the country and that they can play with the best in the country.
Be done with those contracts and put together 16 of the best college football programs in the country and let them play it out on the field.
