Another annual parade in Motown
Written by TigersFan22, Tuesday June 09 2009
Well bring out the trucks with the player names on it and the balloons, people here are already saying we have it in the bag.
The Wings have been the one constant in Detroit for years. With mayor scandals, bad economic times hitting the state, and the oh so dreadful Lions the city of Detroit has had too much to be looked down upon.
Except our Red Wings.
I'm personally so glad that we are this close even if a miracle comeback by the Pens makes us eat our words. People here have had enough hardships. We thought our kids at Michigan State would bring us that shining light and for one night they did. Yeah, we lost to UNC and couldn't match up to their superior starting 5 but I seen smiles again. I seen the people of the city ban together behind something other than a corrupt mayor. People were circled around t.v screens cheering on something that we had to be proud of.
Something..anything to be proud of.
The Pistons at one point did it for us back in the 80's-90's bringing us 2 championships with the bad boys. The Tigers give us a great season every 20 years. And then the Lions...well we look forward to first round draft picks with them . Yet the Red Wings bring the bacon home for us everytime they play. We've had our sad seasons with them like when we were bumped out of the first round a couple of years back but before that we even had a championship in 2002 with a team dubbed as "A team built to win."
Detroiters look at every team as a team that should win when it comes to the Wings. Mike Illitch and our genius GM Ken Holland are looked at as better architects than the men who built the city scrapers. By building this team they built something we can be proud of and that word is considered taboo in this city as of late.
So call it too early to dub them champions or say that this teams window of opportunity is closing after this year, but at least give us one more day in the sunlight. With our big 3 falling and our many burned downed homes maybe to us this means alittle more. Just alittle more.
Speaking for my city as a fan of the Wing's till I die....bring out the balloons boys. Let see Lord Stanley strooling down Woodward Ave. another year in the June
