A Bad Day
Written by Chriso, Sunday January 16 2011
First, let me say that I never get sick. Kerri even asked me when was the last time I got sick, and I can't remember. So that also means it was pre-Kerri. Let's just say it has been a long time. So when I started feeling ill, I knew it was going down hill.
We planned to go to our favorite sports bar to watch the Patriots and Jets. I was not feeling well enough, so we decided to see if I might feel better at the half. With the Patriots trailing 14-3, I really was not feeling better, and if I ran into a pack of New York fans, I knew that things would go from bad to worse.
I had great plans for the Super Bowl. My work schedule on Sundays fell into place without me even requesting it. I had today off, and next week. Work during the Pro Bowl, off for the Super Bowl, work the following week. I have clients who are Steelers fans and a coworker who loves the Steelers, so I was ready for a week of friendly banter.
A Super Bowl with the Bears? Bring me Nolan Thomas from playerpress, or my cousins the Ryans who live in Chicagoland. We could relive 1986, well, on second thought, that did not end so well. A Green Bay Super Bowl? Party like it's 1997. I forgot to get to the big dance, you have to beat the Steelers. To play the Steelers, you have to beat the Jets. It just did not happen.
I've been in a slump with features lately too. This one would have written itself. The four teams in the Conference Champions representing the last 50 years of football. First, there is the Packers, the team of the 60s, and the Steelers, the team of the 70s. For a team of the 80s, the real answer is the 49ers, still the 1985-86 Bears were one of the best defensive teams of all time. The team of the 90s is Dallas, and Dallas will host the Super Bowl this year. Last decade, the Patriots won three Super Bowls.
That's gone now. Sorry, the Jets have not really been relevant since Broadway Joe. And the Packers already own that decade. One other thing that annoyed me in the telecast was CBS showed a stat called "Balls Defensed". What does that word even mean? Not the only annoying thing on the broadcast. There was the outcome.
And now, I think I have to throw up.
